You talked about many points...

In regard to the one above....

Before Christ came how did people see Gods character, and righteousness?
Through the principles, the witness of prophets, past events and nature etc.
Now that Christ has come we no longer need sacrifices and priests, because we have the true sacrifice and the true high priest.
We can see the righteousness of God in Jesus.
David loved the law, because it showed Gods love.

The "law" can be all of the OT teachings, the moral law, the cerimonial laws, so it is important to understand which law is being talked about.

It is clear that the moral law identifies sin.

Please understand, ....
Law reveals Sin.
Sin = death.
No Law = no death.

One sin = death. To steal, murder, lie, or not keep the sabbath holy. = death

The Law is death to us because it identifies us as sinners.

Does the gospel save us from sin, or does it remove the Law that reveals sin?

All have sinned. So all have transgressed the law.
If you have transgressed the law. How did it disappear at the cross?
If the law ended at the cross how are we classed as sinners today?

We are saved from death but we are told to go and sin no more.
Is the law present today or not present today?
I know grace and mercy is present today.
Depends which law you are referring to of course.

The law of Noah?

The law of Moses?

The commands Jesus gave and there are many of those?

The four laws given in Acts 15.

The two commandments listed in 1 John?

The commandments Paul cited in Corinthians?

So many laws.

It is all good and well until one begins putting day worship above Son worship. Every day should be kept holy and worshipful. Argument about which day of the week should be preferred is not constructive either. That being said, every seventh day is indeed Biblical and was practiced in the Early Church.
But we are to set one day in seven aside particularly for worship????

The MUST know would be the scripture located in Romans 14:5

5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.

6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it.

Perhaps another translation would be in order but it's the sabbath is a personal thing. Leastways that's my understanding of Romans 14:5.

Maybe you "must" not know this but the two scriptures about not pursuing your OWN pleasure on the sabbath are important to note.

I'm not saying sunday effectively functions as the sabbath for some but you do church in the morning and can't wait to have a day of pleasure/family time/football w/e and for me at least those types of things drive out resting in him and more just R&R.

Interesting side of it that is rarely talked about but I'm not saying you MUST keep the sabbath or anything or that if you do you are a Pharisee...rather that the pleasure element contains a lesson that would be of benefit to most believers in dying to themselves.

Sure if it's your good pleasure to read the bible all day go for it...pursuing your own pleasure within the boundaries of the law of liberty isn't sinful by the way, it's just something to consider. What might that mean for you?

I find it incredibly difficult when I focus on giving up my own pleasure (no I don't mean asceticism) to the point where it can bring what borders on hedonism/licentiousness into some balance.
Interesting. The last sentence has me puzzled.

.
The original intent of the Lord's Supper was to be a mini sermon rather
than a ritual-- a sort of "lest we forget" reminder of what Christ went
through to protect his fellow men from the wrath of God.

1Cor 11:26 . . For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you
proclaim the Lord's death

Christmas and Easter don't say the right things for Jesus' memoriam; they're
too nice; too cute. His moments on the cross were as ugly as they were
disturbing.

Isa 52:14 . . Many were appalled at him-- so marred was his appearance,
unlike that of any man; his form beyond human resemblance.

Jesus was so badly disfigured during his crucifixion that even his own mother
wouldn't have recognized him had she not been there that day in the
audience watching the scene unfold.

thi
The shocking fact about Jesus' crucifixion is that the Romans didn't cause the
injuries described by Isa 52:14, no; it was his own Father's handiwork.

Isa 53:10 . . It pleased The Lord to bruise him; He has put him to grief.

The damages done to Jesus by his own Father hints to what God has in
store for folks at the judgment depicted by Rev 20:11-15, i.e. it seems very
probable to me that prior to their termination in the lake of brimstone, the
lost will first be severely bashed and beaten to a bloody pulp.
_
What am I 'misunderstanding' about the phrase you use at the beginning of this post; "to protect his fellow men". According to scripture shouldn't this read more like something about those who are the 'elect' or 'sons of God' or 'heirs of salvation' or something like that?

“Before Christ came how did people see Gods character, and righteousness?”

“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭13:8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

they didn’t know him thats why when he came they rejected him that’s the point He is God you can’t ever know Gods character unless you come to Jesus.

your saying the law taught to m Gods character scriptire says the law taught them sin and death

“Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭3:19-20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The knowledge of sin is not Gods character that’s man’s character which they were ignorant of until the law came giving them knowledge of sin and thier sinfulness and guilt before God

The law is it’s an unforgiving angels disposition that shapes the law not Gods it goes God and then to an angel with a terrible and unforgiving disposition and then to Moses the man who himself was a sinner and died for his own transgression against God under the law

to know Who God is and how God deals with mankind you can’t look at the law of sin you have to believe the gospel e New Testament when God stepped forth among us d shouted to the ends of the world “ here I am come to me and believe “

when your looking at the law to know God your seeing an angels dospostion and character and mankind’s sinfulness

my point is not that the law is not holy it absolutely is , my point is the intent of thy law was never to reveal God, it was to show mankind how contrary our nature has become to God how sinful our minds and hearts had become

it’s holy and good and perfect for the purpose he gave it to them the purpose was never to give them a relationship with God or reveal his character it was never to save thier souls or justify a man before God the law is not a word of faith

I hadn’t really gotten too much into what I wanted to say to you but here’s a few quotes to consider we are all free to accept or reject nd it’s not going to condemn us because we don’t fully understand or anything but just take a moment and consider what it says

“For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.( we don’t get to seperate laws within the law it’s a whole you have to do every word every time )

But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭3:10-12‬ ‭

Another consideration

“But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, ( by the law ) that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe. ( through the gospel )

But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. ( when Christ came with the gospel)

Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭3:22-25‬ ‭KJV‬‬

see until a person knows they are guilty of sin and sin Is death the message in the gospel of forgiveness , and remission of sins and true righteousness and truly imparting Gods character to the hearers isn’t going to be understood and embraced if we don’t know our sin how can we even understand repentance ? Why would we change anything ? Why would we need forgiveness ? The law. Rings us to the need for a savior and teacher for salvation from what the old has revealed

“This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us: to whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust him from them,

and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt, saying unto Aaron, Make us gods to go before us: for as for this Moses, which brought us out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.

And they made a calf in those days, and offered sacrifice unto the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands. Then God turned, and gave them up to worship the host of heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets, O ye house of Israel, have ye offered to me slain beasts and sacrifices By the space of forty years in the wilderness?

Yea, ye took up the tabernacle of Moloch, And the star of your god Remphan, Figures which ye made to worship them: And I will carry you away beyond Babylon.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭7:38-43‬ ‭KJV‬‬

That’s the law brother God isnt saying in the prophet “ you’ve been worshipping me in the desert oh isreal” he’s asking them “ we’re you sacrificing beasts to me in thy desert ? You took up the tabernacle of moloch and the star of your god repham” he’s saying you were t worshipping me by slaying animals you were given those things because you were idolaters worshipping false gods

if you go look on exodus everything Stephen is explaining plays out exactly like he explains In Acts seven

he of course was stoned and killed for saying it by the Jews and Paul , and many Christian’s feel like they did but it’s true that’s why Paul after he converted continued teaching more points about how the law was ordained of angels and given to a mediator ( Moses ) and was only meant to last until the lord came forth and showed himself To us

you can’t ever know God until you know Jesus angels arent his image nor being under condemnation can one ever know God it’s only Christ the son that can reveal the true God

“And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, ( the gospel ) that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭5:20-21‬ ‭KJV‬‬

honestly brother if you believe you need to keep the sabbath as in the ot it’s not an offense or anything it’s good to rest a day per week but it’s not going to help you know God better or anything there’s nothing wrong with the sabbath old command it’s a good reference for a man to rest but again it’s not going to benefit us in knowing God he’s sent the true sabbath that gives rest to the soul everyday and leads us to knowledge of him

of your convinced of sabbath commandment from the law then you really do need to keep it but you shouldn’t think anyone else does

Ok brother I fairly well understand what you say here and now can clear up something for me about praying. Someone at a local congregation in my area told me we can pray to the Father or the Son or the Holy Spirit. It seems like in the Gospel of John we are told Jesus would send the Holy Spirit and it seems to me we should pray to the Father in the name of Jesus and then the Holy Spirit willne lead and possibly reveal truth to us. Of course we must read the Bible? Does this make sense?

absolutely makes perfect sense see Jesus is teaching us we are the children when you receive the Holy Spirit comes revelation of this Jesus the son is imparting his identity to his disciples

“At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, ( the father )

and ye in me, (the son)

and I in you. ( the spirit )

He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.”
‭‭John‬ ‭14:20-21, 23-24‬ ‭KJV‬‬

so what the gospel is teaching us

“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:”
‭‭John‬ ‭1

“And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭23:9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

see he’s teaching us as we believe and eventually we start getting it

“After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6:9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭11:25-26‬ ‭

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5:16‬ ‭

Those are just a few examples but as we hear and believe the gospel our identity changes and we change

“that ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; and be renewed in the spirit of your mind; ( hearing and believing whom Jesus says we are )

and that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4:22-24‬ ‭KJV‬‬

when you pray to an unknowable God it’s not the same as when you pray to your father who freely loves you and has made himself known to you and repeatedly said things to you like this

“And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭11:9-13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The gospel builds our faith in God things like him hearing us when we pray , caring about every detail of our lives

“Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭10:29-31‬ ‭

and he just builds our confidence through the word of faith he speaks into us

“And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭11:22-25‬ ‭

just hearing it helps but as we abide and seek after understanding it begins to be stamped on our own faith the gospel is living and active just like when he spoke into darkness and light came he’s speaking the light of the son into us creating children by faith

“For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭4:6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Faith in The son is able to make us the sons of God through faith but only by thy gospel hearing and believing the things God said to believers in Christ

Jesus is the fullness of God who had come to be made flesh and save us

“I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.”
‭‭John‬ ‭17:4-5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

he did this

“And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God ( the father ) was manifest in the flesh, ( the son ) justified in (the Spirit,) seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.”
‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭3:16‬ ‭

His whole intent on coming is to change us from lost sinners headed for damnation to his own beloved children who arent afraid like those under the law to hear him

“Now therefore why should we die? for this great fire will consume us: if we hear the voice of the LORD our God any more, then we shall die.”
‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭5:25‬ ‭KJV‬‬

they were this wrong

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭5:24‬ ‭KJV‬‬

in Christ we don’t have to think Gods word will condemn us like they did of the law

“Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭15:1‬ ‭KJV‬‬

as we abide in Christ and the gospel he’s doing this

“For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.”
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭2:13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

he’s changing our Will and our actions as we hear and believe and begin to follow where he is leading us

Interesting. The last sentence has me puzzled.
Under the law of liberty I find that there are two extremes. being pharasaical vs licentiousness with what is permissible in between. I've come up with a north south east west compass of other extremes but they are fuzzy at present so we'll see.

I vacillate between these two extremes and hedonism is on the border of licentiousness. If I'm always just focusing on my own pleasure...what am I going to do today for fun or what would be fun. What would I like to eat, what would I like to drink, what luxuries can I work toward today, etc. etc.

I don't think pleasure is wrong or anything but our walk can get pretty out of balance if being entertained is the forefront. I mean things that are pleasurable that aren't specifically sin...like going out for a steak dinner or an amusement park or even sports.

Life isn't a perpetual vacation, otherwise it wouldn't be vacation.

Does that make it more clear?

A covenant is an agreement between two parties, based on mutual promises.

The old covenant was, obey my laws and I'll bless you.

When you read Heb 8:6-13 you can understand why a new covenant was needed.

Here is a proof that the covenant which disappeared was not the Ten Commandments.

The old had poor promises in it. Verse 6 states that the New "was established upon better promises".
Is there any poor promises in the Ten commandments?
No, Paul declares that they were good.
Eph 6: 1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. 2 Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) 3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
The old covenant was not the Ten commandments.
Which two parties? The Gentiles were never given the law to keep.

i take the Lord's Day { sunday} as a rest day, church, then rest, no regular work.

how many follow the Lord's day as a rest day the way the Lord God laid out- work 6 days, rest one.
Don't take your blessing and make it a yoke to put on your brethren.

The Ten Commandments are not the old covenant which was abolished.
**ahem**

you sure about that statement?

He declared to you His covenant which He commanded you to perform, the Ten Commandments;
and He wrote them on two tablets of stone.

(Deuteronomy 4:13)

Don't take your blessing and make it a yoke to put on your brethren.
i am blessed in America to have 2 days of rest. saturday-sunday.
depending on your job, you may rest other days. someone has to keep gas stations and restaurants and other shops open over the weekend. for the majority of us it's the only chance we have to run errands because we're busy monday-friday.
i love you all, who do this. it is needed. you are a blessing and i'm indebted. i would have a much harder life if no one worked weekends.

nevertheless resting in the Lord means making myself the joyful servant of anyone who asks of me, going 2 miles when they ask one.
so more often than not i'm out grocery shopping, tinkering around the house, and doing all manner of chores on these days for my beloved wife. if my employer asks of me, i willingly go and do the best job possible, without hesitation, both on sabbath and on the Lord's day, upon which He rose.

because, rest.

entering His rest is ceasing our own works; instead doing works of love for others. for His sake, Who also set aside His life for us, because of His great love.

driving around spending money and doing chores is a technical violation of the sabbath of the Jews, under the Law, the covenant of Sinai, under Moses -- as written in the Pentateuch. even driving more than a mile to go congregate at church is a technical violation. handling money - giving what is nowadays wrongly called 'tithes'- forbidden on sabbath.

i'm amazed at SDA's -- they don't seem to know the very law they loudly proclaim to be under. i'm amazed.
how can people who devote themselves and put their trust in obedience to certain commandments not even study those very commandments? ask them what they gleaned on any given saturday from meditating on what they are supposedly doing -- what do they tell you? is there any wisdom? is there any insight? do they give you knowledge of God when you say, tell me about how the sabbath speaks of Christ? hmm.

but we as humans are idiots. i should not be surprised, yet i am.
i'm an idiot - i'm not surprised at that in the least. why does it shock me to discover that other people are too?

To me, Jesus became our resting place when he became the sacrificial lamb for one and all times. I take my sabbath or rest in Jesus every day of my life, for without him, there is no rest or peace of mind.

Monday 8-15-22 2nd. Day Of The Weekly Cycle, Av 16 5782 56th. Summer Day

  • The Sabbath is a memorial of creation. Every time we rest upon the seventh day, as God did at creation, we commemorate that grand event. (Exodus Twenty:11) It is also a sign between God and us that He sets us apart as His special people.
1 And God spake all these words, saying,

2 I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

7 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:

10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

How do you define what is good to do on the Sabbath.

The Jews went to both extremes. They ignored it. And they made the laws and restrictions so hard it became a burden.

We need to understand what the Sabbath is and how it applies today.

Most say it doesn't apply, but the bible never tells us to stop keeping the sabbath.

Jesus kept the sabbath perfectly and the religous leaders accused Him of breaking the sabbath.

They had the wrong understanding of the sabbath.

Mat 12:7 But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless. 8 For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.
