This isn't very good for you case: 1) We can't tell for sure from 1 John 2:19 if the people John refers to ever were saved to begin with. You assume they never had Jesus; but they could have had Him and then rejected Him and fell into apostasy. We simply don't know. 2) The parable of the sower actually makes a better case for those in 1 John 2:19 having been saved at one point. They received the word with joy; they sprang up and had life but didn't endure. They didn't have the same depth of soil as the others in 1 John 2:19, who reamained steadfast.

The first three are actually examples of people who probably won't be in heaven. Only the last group will be.

"He who has ears to hear, let him hear!" Matthew 13:9

You seem to overlook that the conversation in V19 is a continuation from the previous verse about antichrist’s. It continues to v 26.

18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.
19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.
20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.
21 I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.
23 Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.
24 Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.
25 And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.
26 These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you.

I don't overlook it. You assume it's impossible for someone to be saved and then fall into apostasy and even become an antichrist. This clouds your perception of everything else.

What is antichrist? He who denies the Father and the Son. Why is it so inconceivable that someone could be saved then fall into apostasy, even denying the Lord? Because someone who is truly saved wouldn't do that? That's like asking: Why is the sky blue? Answer: Because it's the sky and the sky is blue.

Here's another way of thinking about the matter. As Our Lord said: "“Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect." (Mat 5:48), so Methodists believe in a doctrine called "Christian Perfection", also known as "Complete Sanctification", the Second Work of the Holy Spirit Post-Justification. Source: "Methodists also believe in the second work of grace—Christian perfection, also known as entire sanctification, which removes original sin and makes the believer holy.[5] John Wesley explained, "entire sanctification, or Christian perfection, is neither more nor less than pure love; love expelling sin, and governing both the heart and life of a child of God. The Refiner's fire purges out all that is contrary to love."[78][79]

Methodist churches teach that apostasy can occur through a loss of faith or through sinning.[80][81] If a person backslides but later decides to return to God, he or she must confess his or her sins and be entirely sanctified again (the Arminian doctrine of conditional security).[82][83][84]" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methodism

1 Jn 3:9 seems to refer to this Second Work of the Holy Spirit, a deeper anointing that preserves us from further sin: "9 Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God."

In verse 6, the Apostle had said: "6 Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him." i.e. whoever has abided in the Lord for some time, whoever has walked with Him many years, whoever has taken holy Communion often with faith and love (Ref Jn 15:6 where it says those who abide in Him continually bear much fruit; and Jn 6:56 where it says those who continually eat His body and drink His blood abide in Him) etc, these persons will soon receive the Grace not to sin gravely again, and that Grace, added to Justification, equals Perseverance, and thus Salvation.

It's simple really.

Faith in Christ = Grace of Justification.
Love for God/Neighbor = Sign of Justification (how we and others know we are Justified).

Reference, again 1 Jn 3: "14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother abides in death."

Complete Work of Sanctification = Second Work of Holy Spirit.
Perseverance in Faith after Sanctification = Final Salvation.

Now, here is a Reference in Hebrews to those who have received the Second Work of the Holy Spirit, which has made them Adults in Christ, to others who can and ought to have received it, but did not, and thus remained babes in Christ: "12You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food. 13For someone who lives on milk is still an infant and doesn’t know how to do what is right. 14Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong." (Heb 5:12-14)

Both groups are justified, to be sure, but there was something the Holy Spirit wished to do in them, a Second Work Post Justification, which they did not let Him do, and thus never attained to Spiritual Adulthood. It's only after saying this that the writer in Hebrews, in the famous passages in Hebrews 6 and Hebrews 10, speaks of the danger of falling away in faith.

God Bless.

All we know for sure is that Judas, the son of perdition.....was never truly saved to begin with.

Some who were nominal Christians and "never saved" (i.e. never justified), stop practicing, agreed.

That doesn't mean everyone who stops believing in Christ and stops practicing never believed.

That's like saying, because some harmonicas are white, therefore all harmonicas are white. Non sequitur and doesn't follow.

Some did truly believe and then fell away. They believed unto justification, but not unto salvation.

This is Soil #2 in the Parable of Jesus Christ, perhaps the clearest explanation of all on the Four Different Types of People/Soils/Hearts, and repeated/reiterated in Three of the Four Gospels, saints/disciples Matthew, Mark and Luke.

Matthew 13:

"3 Then He spoke many things to them in parables, saying: “Behold, a sower went out to sow. 4 And as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds came and devoured them. 5 Some fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth. 6 But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away. 7 And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them. 8 But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. 9 He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”

The Purpose of Parables
10 And the disciples came and said to Him, “Why do You speak to them in parables?”

11 He answered and said to them, “Because it has been given to you to know the [a]mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given ...

The Parable of the Sower Explained
18 “Therefore hear the parable of the sower: 19 [Soil I] When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside. 20 But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; 21 yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles. 22 Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful. 23 But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.”

Soil I was never saved. Some soils were never saved, agreed.
Soil II was justified but fell because of persecution/tribulation.
Soil III was justified but unfruitful because of prosperity/riches.
Soil IV was justified, bore abundant fruit, was rewarded/saved.

God Bless.

You believe in good works. I believe in good works. Why am I doing good works to earn salvation but you aren't? If doing good works alone is the standard whereby you evaluate, then you're attempting to earn salvation as well. There's a flaw in your logic.
What are you talking about?? No one can "earn salvation". That is very flawed thinking. Salvation is by grace. That proves it is not earned.

What you said isn't my standard anyway, so your "conclusion" about "my logic" is flawed.

No doubt there are also eternal security folks who try to earn points with God by doing good works. Not out of faith but to earn better rewards, a bigger crown, a seat closer to the Lord at His table, etc.

"Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!' " Matthew 7:22-23
That crowd never believed. That's why Jesus could say "I NEVER knew you". He couldn't/wouldn't have said that if any of them HAD believed.

But, regarding "rewards" which you seem to mock, consider this:

Rev 22:12 - “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done.

2 Cor 5:10 - For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

Col 3-
23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,
24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

Though we disagree on other matters, we agree on this. Augustinian Theology has always spoken of good works, done in faith, earning merits or rewards in Heaven. When the Lord says store up Treasures in Heaven, He is speaking of Treasury of Merits/Rewards/Crowns etc. Those who are Martyrs for Christ will receive a Great Reward, as it says in Revelation 2:10.

[10] Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

Soil 1 - the seed falls on the ground and immediately dries up
Soil 2 - falls on the rocky ground and has no root and dries up
Soil 3 - falls on the thorny ground and the thorns choke out the plant
Soil 4 - the good ground which brings forth good fruit

I wrote that down to keep it straight in my head. I mix up 1&2 and combine them a lot, in my head, accidently.

I believe these are the 4 different stages of a Saved person. Or the 3 different stages of an unsaved person.
How many seeds produced plants? 3. Only soil 1 didn't produce a plant. Plants represent new life from the seed.

So, we have 3 kinds of saved people. Soil 2 ceased to believe when trouble brewed. Soil 3 got all tangled up in the pleasures of life. Neither produced fruit. But both were saved.

But whoever runs away from martyrdom, and therefore even more, someone who apostatizes from Christ without even fearing persecution/martyrdom, can lose his soul in doing so. the Lord is Crystal Clear on this and there is no need to deny it.

"
Take Up the Cross and Follow Him
24Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 25For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. 26For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 27For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works"

I don't overlook it. You assume it's impossible for someone to be saved and then fall into apostasy and even become an antichrist. This clouds your perception of everything else.

Because someone who is truly saved wouldn't do that? That's like asking: Why is the sky blue? Answer: Because it's the sky and the sky is blue.
We just take what the passage says

they were never of us,,,,

according to you. they were off us. then departed and now are anti-christ.

That goes against what John says.

why would someone who is truly saved never stop having faith?

But unlike men, God never fails anyone. He continues to prove he is trustworthy and worthy of his faith. The biggest assurance we have is the hope of eternal life..

it is not only the hope which keeps us grounded in faith, it is the same hope which keeps us moving forward.

my ask, is why you do not trust God enough that you would stop trusting in him at all.

See how the Lord speaks of the necessity of perseverance below, not only beginning to build but actually finishing the course.

Luk 14:

"Leaving All to Follow Christ
25Now great multitudes went with Him. And He turned and said to them, 26“If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. 27And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. 28For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it29lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, 30saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish’? 31Or what king, going to make war against another king, does not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? 32Or else, while the other is still a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks conditions of peace. 33So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple.

Tasteless Salt Is Worthless
34“Salt is good; but if the salt has lost its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? 35It is neither fit for the land nor for the [g]dunghill, but men throw it out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”

And He concludes saying, salt, which once had flavor, can lose it in such a way that it can hardly be seasoned again, i.e. someone can apostatize in such a manner that he will hardly want to repent again. And such ones will not be saved, because He says "men throw it out" etc.

Well, the Lord will not allow those whom He loves with a special Love and who were sincerely trying to follow Him to perish by an unprovided death. He gives them time and space for repentance, as St. Peter immediately repented and was saved. And they say that, even 30+ years later, when he was martyred, his cheeks showed the trace of continual tears on his eyes.

Look also how the sinful woman wept at the Lord's Feet in Devotion and Love to Him and immediately was forgiven and saved from her sin. Here we see the Lord immediately grants pardon and justification to those with faith and love in Him.

Luk 7:

"44Then He turned to the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has washed My feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head. 45You gave Me no kiss, but this woman has not ceased to kiss My feet since the time I came in. 46You did not anoint My head with oil, but this woman has anointed My feet with fragrant oil. 47Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little.”

48Then He said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”

49And those who sat at the table with Him began to say to themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?”

50Then He said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you. Go in peace.”

As for Judas, he was deliberately plotting the murder of Christ with malice aforethought with the Pharisees. He was guilty and did not repent. If even he had repented, he could have been saved. But those who sin so much willingly and for so long, in general, very rarely repent. He lost his soul.

so Peter was sincerely trying to follow Jesus when he denied him three times?

Again, If he died on the way home that night before he repented. would he be headed to hell or heaven

It is written: "Psalm 19:13, NIV: Keep your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me. Then I will be blameless, innocent of great transgression."

Peter had no intention/will to commit the sin. He sinned and fell out of weakness, not deliberately out of malice like Judas. Therefore, the Lord preserved his life, and gave him time to repent.

What Peter's example really shows is no one should guarantee himself that he will not fall away, because: "“Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.” (Prov 27:1)

Peter's Statement would be the Clearest Teaching of OSAS in the Bible, if only it were true!!!

Notice that he said: "Peter replied, “Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will.” (Mat 26:33)

1. From this statement, we learn, the Apostles who had walked with Christ, for 3 years, and were all (apart from Judas, where it is debatable whether he was ever justified or not) undoubtedly justified, considered it possible for all to fall away.

2. The one who personally confidently boasts/states that he will not fall away, will often, sadly, when trials/tribulation/persecution comes, be the first to fall. Hence no one should say, "Even if you fall, I never will, for sure".

3. God is Sovereign over life and death and does not allow His elect who are predestined not only to grace but also to glory (i.e. who receive Justification, Sanctification and Perseverance) to die in deadly/grave/mortal sin.

4. St. Peter the Apostle, in his Later Epistle, now clearly teaches people can fall away from Christ, in such a way that the latter state is worse than the beginning. He says apostates are worse than those who have never known Christ. Hence, it follows that as those who have never known Christ are lost, so also those who knowingly apostatized and then remained unrepentant until death are also lost. imo, this statement suggests Judas was probably once justified but later apostate.

5. Here is the passage: "20If indeed they have escaped the corruption of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,f only to be entangled and overcome by it again, their final condition is worse than it was at first. 21It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness than to have known it and then to turn away from the holy commandment passed on to them. 22Of them the proverbs are true: “A dog returns to its vomit,”g and, “A sow that is washed goes back to her wallowing in the mud.” (2 Pet 2).

From this passage, we learn 2 things (1) after being really washed/justified, we can fall away. (2) those who do that are worse than those who never knew the way of righteousness. In other words, apostates who die unrepentant suffer more in hell than unbelievers who never knew the Gospel. It is a sad Truth, but it is Truth. In Hebrews also, it says a similar thing.

In other words, apostates who die unrepentant suffer more in hell than unbelievers who never knew the Gospel. It is a sad Truth, but it is Truth. In Hebrews also, it says a similar thing.

God Bless.
Peter deliberately sinned. out of fear, He lacked faith in God at that time and for fear if his life denied his savior

The answer is no. Peter would not have went to hell. Because peter had eternal security.

Jesus KNEW peter was going to deny him
He also KNEW hw would lead his church,
he also KNEW he would die a martyr's death on the cross.

Jesus does not make mistakes and save people knowing they will fall away.

Jesus also KNEW Judas did not believe, he told us this in John 6.. long before Judas sin of betrayal

Jesus also does not make mistakes and save people he knows do not have true faith

Thats why Jesus can save completely and does, that which is lost with no mistakes. Because he knows.

People who claim salvation can be lost do not understand Gods knowledge.
