"An Open Letter to a Pentecostalist...

...letter written several years ago to a dear friend who became caught in the modern Pentecostal/Charismatic movement. It is, in part, a response to a religious tract he sent
to me from the United Pentecostal Church called, “The Apostle’s Doctrine.” I realize, of
course, that many others who call themselves Pentecostal or Charismatic would not
agree with the teaching of this tract. Therefore, it is up to each individual to discern
whether they believe the doctrine that I have endeavored to answer...

...Dear Terry,

Hello again in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! It was nice to hear from you again
and know that your doctor’s appointment has been moved up. I pray that you can
find relief from suffering very soon. But remember, the Lord has many spiritual
lessons He can teach in the midst of suffering. If you pray only for deliverance
from trouble, you may miss God’s lessons to be learned in suffering as well as
through it (2 Cor. 1:3-11; 4:8-18; 12:1-10)...

...I have read the tracts you sent to me including the one on tongues...
Some people will not study through literature with which they think they will
disagree. I think this is a wrong attitude. As people who want to know and stand
for the truth, it is necessary to examine each biblical subject from varying theological
views, then compare and contrast using the Scriptures and the Holy Spirit’s teaching
to discern what is right...

...The objection I had with your soul winner’s tract was that it tries to use guilt as the
motivating force to get people to witness. It says in effect, “Shame on you for not
witnessing.” When our service for Christ is based on fear, shame, and guilt, the
emphasis is definitely in the wrong place.

We need to get back to Grace motivation in the dispensation of Grace. Paul said,
“the Love of Christ Constraineth us” to live unto Him Which died and rose again
(2 Cor. 5:14,15).

When I read his epistles, the first thing he does is establish the believers in the
sound doctrine, telling them of their spiritual blessings and who they are in Christ.
He then uses the love and gratitude produced thereby to encourage them to loving
worship and service...

After subjecting myself to the Charismatic movement for a year and a half to investigate and compare my interpretation of scripture with their interpretation plus experiences.

I feel very confident after much contemplation, investigating, and studying that my original bias holds to be accurate.

I truly believe they are the teaching of hay or straw and not of gold and silver.

I believe there is much deception, legalism, and heresy in some cases.

I told someone about my dream I posted in a thread a few days ago and they recommended a guy to interpret it. I said no thanks, I have the Bible to tell me everything I need to understand even if the dream was of supernatural origin.

I believe the group with which I intend to associate are Pentecostal. i.e. Assemblies of God

Have not attended in person but the way they conduct the service seems appropriate. Particularly the praying and the preachers seem to generally put forth a plea for us to come to Christ. My personal interaction with them by phone has generally been very revelatory. So if 'Pentecostalism' is problematic for some it may not be so for all. This link is an assembly near me. Cannot say enough about a message delivered 20 Nov 2022 by Carlos Paniagua. Prejudiced maybe, and possibly sinful backgrounds similarity come into play. God finally let His message get through is my take on what happened in my life.

Apparently some tracts published by the United Pentecostal Church were sent to someone named "Terry." Your quote, GRACE_ambassador, contains Terry's critique of the tract apparently titled Soul Winners; however, the full text of that tract isn't included, either in your quote or in the links you provided. Do you know where a full copy of that can be viewed or downloaded? I've searched but can't find anything.

I believe you meant Ken Lawson's critique of the tract that his friend Terry sent
him?

Closest info (I can find) is for a $10 ebook:

You do understand that all OT & NT dreams are NOT interpreted by scripture, don't you? Daniel never used the OT to interpret his dreams. Neither did Peter. The Holy Spirit did both.
But... scripture is used to apply moral guidelines that the interpretations must fall under. :)

Okay, I see that now.

What exactly is the point of this? I'm not very good at deciphering things posted with no commentary about what I'm supposed to take away from it.

Yes but this was before the Bible. This was before when revelation was being given to help unfold what we have and cherish today.

There is no new revelation. Everything else either compliments the scripture or is revealed like End Time events.

The Spirit can guide us but again the Spirit will not contradict or add to what has been written. The foundation has been laid.

Precious friend, I apologize; I will try to summarize:

1) Some Christians believe "all of Jesus’ commands are for our obedience today."
This brings up contradiction problems (which "skeptics have a heyday" with)
when investigating these commands.

2) Is it not our LORD's Last Commands that are binding on us today?

a) Many sincere believers say "yes, The Words He 'Spoke on earth'
are those marching orders, the Last Commands Given."
b) But then comes the guilt trip when they exhort us, using Christ's Own
earthly Words to the twelve: "IF you love Me, Keep My Commandments!"
c) Then comes further conflict when "denominations" disagree as to
Exactly which "pick and choose" commands are Binding on us, Today,
Correct?
d) Thus, Many are so Confused as to "which to pick" to join, as
they Are Very Sincere about "following Jesus," loving Him, Correct?
3) Rightly Divided Dispensationalism does not have any of these problems,
ie: "recognizing Paul's Distinctive ministry And Message," From The LORD's
Last Words, "The Revelation Of The Mystery," Spoken From Heaven.

Are not "These The LORD's Commands" that are Binding on us, Today?

Conclusion: Summarization brief example:

God's Program: earthly prophecy/covenants for Israel (twelve tribes) with
twelve apostles, binding on them, yesterday

Rightly Divided (2 Timothy 2:15) From “Things That Differ” (online)

God's Other Program: Heavenly Mystery/Grace for ONE Body Of Christ with
ONE apostle, Paul, binding on us, Today!

Conclusion 2: homogenization of these TWO is the cause of Confusion??
