Yes and no.
They are in that, they are God's living word to his people, and a reality for the believer through out the ages, and a beautiful model of prayer.

I dont place any more or less significance on any one scripture passage.
“I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, And the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.

Is your preferred translation that you used for this or was that tourist inspired selection. I like the easy reading of the NLT. On artwork it probably doesn't make much difference for understanding the verse. Except maybe for KJV. Have you ever heard of Rabbi David Kimhi?

Started reading Alexander McCaul 'analysis' of Kimhi commentary on book of Zechariah. Some very unusual info. Ever hear of the 'angel' Metatron or Raziel? References to Kaballah and Chizzuk Emanuah. Chizzuk Emanuah is strengthening faith. Kimhi's work was referred to by KJV translators.

Kimhi was supported by wealthy Portuguese Yahya (David) the negro. Yahya claims heritage traceable to King David. I remember when Haile Selassie - Wikipedia claimed heritage to Solomon. This is part of reason the administration traded for Brittney Griner more than likely.

Hey Pilgrimshope, hope arthur is ok. Right there, Psalm 40:7, Genesis to Revelation which was yet to be written, all is about Jesus. And quite certain Jesus gave the work of inspiring every writer to the Holy Spirit. Were any other of God's servants involved? I don't know. In some reading I am doing, see post #144, there is some interesting info to sort out. Maybe I find more on this topic.

Around 1975 in the library of Pasadena City College I was reading through the prefaces of some Bibles and surprised to see J.R.R. Tolkien listed as a translator in one. Don't recall if that Bible or another the preface said, paraphrase, "Read the Bible and find there what it says to you". Well, about 40 years later I finally started doing just that.

I think Alcoholics Anonymous picked up on that advice too. In the book they use it states a somewhat similar sentiment, "We think that this book will appeal to those who need it". Paraphrase also here. Both seem correct and both lack this advice that some 'guide' is needed. And both books do contain where and how to find the 'guide'. But that means the books must be read. Can't just read the preface.

Good morning, persistent :D I often use the Berean Study Bible as my source for the verses used in my panels, though sometimes NIV, and less often, KJV. I used to not care much for the NLT until one of my church elders (not officially ;)) explained some of their word choice reasons (I suppose it has to do with the type of interpretive method, though I do not recall all the details now), and that did soften my attitude toward it somewhat, but not enough to use it is a source. Partners in Hope Recovery Society does use that translation a lot :)

I am not big on commentaries :unsure::giggle: Though I have heard of Metatron and Raziel... Metatron moreso.

yes he is the main subject of scripture but a lot of the Bible is about man making huge mistakes and ruining what he gave to them so that we who learn from it don’t repeat it

airs definately focused on Jesus from genesis 1:1

But then enter into the equation mankind whos given dominion and authority over all earth

then Enter the dragon that ole serpent they call the devil

( used to be a Bruce lee fan for a time )

but alot of the Bible is about what man did wrong to make it so we die and need salvation

alot of the Bible also is about men like Abraham and his relationship with Jesus , or Noah , or cain , absolem , Peter , Judas , Paul , ect

also the nation of Israel alot of the ot is about thier rebellion against Gods kindness towards them and resistance to his corrections of them and lack of fear towards what he’s warned them about

there’s a pretty comprehensive story in the Bible lots of characters Jesus and the gospel the main design , mankind an unwitting accomplis to earths demise , a crafty serpent who’s deceptive and cunning in his interpretation of what God said

tribe of carnal folk who simply refuse to be blessed by God for generations many wicked nations and kings became relevant characters in the true story of mankind’s relationship with God

The Bible is a lot more interesting than many realize and alot more valuable if we look at it as “ how can I learn , from what I’m hearing in the scriptures ?”

I think you told me that before about the NLT and I forgot. That name Metatron really gets me. Sounds like some early or mid twentieth century sci-fi writer would make up. I already forgot who McCaul attributed that to. Likely not Kimhi. Raziel was an angel noted in a book of magic, (grimoire). Fantastic stuff that people would dream up. Wondering if these ideas were based in 'reality'. Guess I better not bore you or waste your time with this 'crazy' stuff. I actually find it useful for certain persons I deal with now and in the past I see a connection. Certain people I have known were very superstitious and possibly influenced by some derivatives of these sources.

My wife and I are currently reading the entire book of Psalms. Very good stuff for sure. Thank you for designing this beautiful panel.

I'm bringing up this thread because there was a discussion about David on another topic and i didn't want to clutter that topic with something which deserves its own topic.
Some of the participants were @Cameron143 and @Magenta.

If you see my past comments on this topic about David, they can be summarized as this:
This man does not inspire me, but i respect him because he is part of God's plan for some reason. I don't know why, but i just trust God so by default i respect this man who really pushes me away from God with his mindset.
I also respect other important people who are part of God's plan such as Saints, Apostilles or Jesus' mother.
It's just that for some of us we have different preferences as who we like or we dislike in the Bible but we have to accept them and respect them as God's plan.
In order for most of you here to understand this who are mostly Protestant, the way i feel about David is the same way you feel when the Catholics pray to St. Mary for salvation.
That's how i feel about David! So, with that in mind try to understand people's inspirations or discouragement from an individual in the Bible.

Cameron did a great job saying this in another way:
David being a man after God's own heart does not mean as you suppose. It doesn't mean that David was full of characteristics of God. While he did have some of those, he was, in most ways, no better than anyone else in his time. In fact, in many ways, he was far worse.
So what is meant when God says David is a man after God's own heart? Saul was the king the people chose. They looked upon the outside and Saul was indeed an impressive physical specimen. But God, when He chooses, picks those who are weak and unimpressive, and even despised in order that what He performs will be ascribed to Him. Thus, the phrase...after God's own heart...simply means one who is God's choice or after the manner in which God chooses.
