I am routinely criticised for stating that the earth is a sphere.
always came across as a weird thing to be so obsessed with, the earth being flat.

heck , i have even heard Christians say that one has to believe in flat earth to be truly saved.

strange hill to die on.

I suspect you didn’t intend it, but your closing comment is hilariously ironic. :)

I promised I would not say any more. OK, I will, just for you.

The military is compelled to deal with the globe earth. I was in the navy for nearly 9 years. The aerial for the equipment I maintained was on the highest mast of the ship. I had to climb up from time to time to calibrate it. Masts add weight and make the ship less stable. It's like a pendulum, any movement on the surface is magnified at height.

The reason for the height is to overcome the restriction imposed by the earth's curvature. It does not matter how powerful you make the radar, microwave frequencies are line of sight.
We already went through this and demonstrated if Earth were a globe, a 10m tall ship radar would be able to see no further than 24km. That it can proves Earth is not a globe.

I have spent a ton of time looking into this, it's all Flat Earth priest's fault. If they didn't put their propaganda near the tennis courts, I used to play at, I would of never gave the heliocentric model a second thought. I'm a curious person and wanted to know why people are crazy, and why crazy people believe in the flat earth. Big mistake right? Now I need to know how the concave hollow earth works, and why the other models work, and don't work.

It was just like when I found out that the Sabbath is not on Sunday, I had to figure out what else was a lie. I just want to know the truth. When I told people the Sabbath wasn't on Sunday, they looked at me, like I was from a different planet. lol Sorry, don't lie to me next time religious leaders, and churches. lol

To bring up electricity, that is another subject that is fascinating. Your missing out on all the fun. At least read a book on Tesla, he is one of the most interesting people to ever live. You know he was in love with a pigeon? lol

You know, they do make a good couple. A pigeon is a dove.

Noah had a pigeon/dove friend also.

Well, thanks I guess. I'm sure you help society in ways with your work, we all have a part in this life. God has purposes for everyone.

Thanks for joking in these threads and help maintaining an entertaining chat forum. It's get to serious sometimes and a little humor helps break up the madness!
I came tripping in here not knowing what to expect. Nice to see at least the beginnings of a thread where folks don't take themselves so seriously. Jesus had a pigeon too.

Professor Dave vs. Somebody who believes in flat earth. If you need a good laugh, watch the video below.

You mock Eric Dubay videos as 'spam' and then post "Professor Dave" videos? That's grrrrrrrreat! --kinda hurts your credibility though.

He seems to be representing himself as some sort of laser targeting expert, while at once admitting that he was the guy who would "climb the ship's mast" to calibrate the aerial equipment used to overcome the curvature of the earth  I have to ask.....

How tall would a ship's mast have to be to 'overcome the curvature of the earth" and target (line of sight) a ship, say..... 20 miles away?

I'll do the math for you. The target would be 190' below the horizon line, so that mast would have to be more than 190' high.

Conclusion:

@Gideon300 is an excellent climber.

The variable in the equation is h. Do the math. Try it when you are in smooth water with your eyes at sea level.

If you can't do the math, just say so-- and I'll be happy to do it for you. --But then you shouldn't post in such a condescending manner as if it's so simple for you and others must be stupid.

Do you need help? There's no shame in asking for some. --but pretending you know things you don't IS rather shameful.

That's okay @Billyd -- You don't have to confess your sins to me. I'm going to help you, even if you are too proud to ask.

Using the handy dandy @Billyd curvature calculator a person standing at sea level would experience the horizon line at about a mile and a half off shore.

As he sees it, the distance to the horizon is about 1.17 times the square root of your eye height (in feet) above sea level. Basically, what we're doing is calculating the length hypotenuse of a right triangle. So if you are about 6 feet tall.... 'the math' says that you couldn't see anything beyond that, unless it projected up from that horizon line. According to the ballers-- because the earth is curving away and down from that line, nothing beyond that line at the water line would be visible.

Please enjoy the music and the math----

Here are three methods to calculate the distance from eye level at a point on the earth to the horizon. They have been proven true by navigators for generations.

All this FE garbage is just that. Garbage.

https://www.wikihow.com/Calculate-the-Distance-to-the-Horizon
The first thing you need to understand is that 'horizon' does not equal 'tangent point on the curvature' - the real-and-true horizon is always that point beyond which nothing can be seen.

So - the calculation methods in that article are based on a false-pretense.

Nah, you missed it MrE! Your new to CC, so I'm positive you didn't get the context of my post. I will explain, because your new. Next time, I will let you think what you want. Welcome to CC by the way.

So, I think it's "therunning" username, or someone who has a chat name like this, posts like 5-7 consecutive posts, that just quotes Eric Dubay, and than, doesn't follow up with any answer to questions raised. This is standard operating procedure in about 3 threads I have seen so far. I try to follow them all. lol

Just look above for a moment and enjoy the beauty!!!!!!! Don't hit play, just the still photo is plenty good.

Thank you for proving concave hollow earth MrE. That video shows that the ships are going up with distance, not down.

One day people will realize the truth...........

Here is my thread on cocave hollow earth, if anyone wants to take another look.

Do you just say things to be contradictory, or do you actually believe what you say?!?!

Edmond Halley died before Jules Verne was born. Plus, would you like to compare what Edmond Halley brought to the science community with Jules Verne? I'm sorry, you must be a flat earther. lol

This is uncharted territory (for me). A hollow earther mocking flat earthers. That's grrrrrrrreat!

I'm glad you have your own thread on the subject. Enjoy it.

Maybe it's like the sun, that hollow earth........ I haven't looked into it.

Ho Ho. I'm not a laser expert. I do know something abut radar, microwaves and line of sight. I do know that if the earth was flat, radar could detect objects thousands of miles away. I do know that a decent telescope could enable someone to see land or other ships far sooner than is possible in reality. There are reasons why militaries deploy AWACS aircraft. They are expensive to build, cost a lot to run and have highly trained crews. One of the reasons that that the earth is curved.

The fire control radar is in the fibreglass ball shaped housing most of the way up the mast. The aerials I had to work on are above them. Naval Architects avoid weight at height at all costs. It makes the ship unstable. Ballast has to be used at keel level to compensate. This reduces performance and adds to running costs for the ship. All that is outweighed by the need for the radar to overcome the curvature of the earth.

Conclusion: the earth is a globe.

Yes, that was one of my first confrontations with an FE person. Saying that your salvation depends on believing FE is heresy and shows that the individual's basis for salvation is false.
