Water baptism is necessary for salvation for we have to identify with the man Christ Jesus who died, was buried, and rose again by repenting of our sins, being water baptized, and receiving the Holy Spirit.

Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Water baptism is for the remission of sins.

Remission.

From G863; freedom; (figuratively) pardon: - deliverance, forgiveness, liberty, remission.

It is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, and the saints have to identify with that but some people try to take away the middle process saying it is not necessary.

1Th 1:3 Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father.

2Th 1:11 Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power.

Some people say it is a work to be water baptized, and we are not saved by works, but faith is a work, confessing Jesus is a work, repenting of our sins is a work, for everything we do is a work.

Water baptism is part of the salvation process for Jesus went through 3 steps to save us.

Joh 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

A person has to be born of water and the Spirit to enter in to the kingdom of God.

Rom 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
Rom 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Rom 6:5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection.

Water baptism is necessary for salvation.

1Pe 3:20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
1Pe 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

This says water baptism does now save us.

And baptism is to be done in Jesus' name.

For there is no other name under heaven whereby people are saved, and everything we do in deed and in word we do all in the name of Jesus.

Baptize in the name Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, which says name singular and that name is Jesus, and Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are titles not names.

Jesus said I am come in my Father's name.

The Son inherited the name from the Father.

The Holy Spirit comes in the name of Jesus.

Jews, Gentiles, and Samaritans were all baptized in the name Jesus, and the people that were baptized by John had to be baptized in Jesus' name.

You just condemned everyone in the OT. and people in the NT who through medical reasons could not be baptized in water.

I have never heard of "medical reasons" for failure to be baptized. Another lame excuse.

You are totally out to lunch since you have just contradicted the words of Christ. If "that name is Jesus" then why did Jesus not simply say "baptize in the name of Jesus"? But since He specifically said what He intended to say, you had better pay heed to His words.

Because that is NOT what Isaiah revealed. In fact Isaiah has several passages which show that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit as THREE distinct divine persons. And the baptism of Christ by John the Baptist (Baptizer) actually confirmed this. The Son was in the water, the Holy Spirit took the form of a dove, and the Father spoke from Heaven and commended the Son. The Didache is an ancient 2nd century witness to Christian baptism being in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Viewing the trinity as "three distinct divine persons" helps us to better understand our God. However, it's hard for many people to grasp how God is still One--the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit.

The best union we have that comes close to this for me is marriage. My wife and I are two distinct people, yet through marriage, we are one. The same is true for the Church--many members but one body.

I bet that really gets them torqued. Baptist hate sprinkling. They would rather be called "Dunkin' Baptists".
Weeell.. they have full immersion baptism for believers. They even have baptism to become a member of the church.. which is the mark of an independent baptist church.. but in the late 80s I think.. they took on pentecostal beliefs and became quite charismatic and quite subjective in their faith. But anyway.. I could get in trouble for posting this so I better say no more ! :)

"His closest followers, however, accepted his sermons as oral scripture and refer to his teachings as The Message."
He was a man of God, but no one should follow him, but only our Lord Jesus Christ. He was a usual man, but he has the Message and Holy Spirit of our God was leading. However, he was a man and everything, which is not told by him as THE WORD OF GOD, should be examined by the Word of God, by our Bible.

Act 8:14 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:
Act 8:15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:
Act 8:16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)
Act 8:17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.

Act 19:1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,
Act 19:2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
Act 19:3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.
Act 19:4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
Act 19:5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

I believe Jesus is telling them that the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost is Jesus.

Jesus said I am come in my Father's name.

I am not condemning them but the Bible says water baptism is a part of salvation.

If there were medical reasons then water baptism would have to apply as long as they believe it.

As per the link I'm going to post: 'for' .. in the Greek is 'eis'.. which can mean 'in reference to'... like 'regarding' .. it isn't a conditional clause thing where the absence of the water baptism means the person is unsaved.

There are other verses that have remission of sin WITHOUT baptism. That should tell you something about receiving eternal life.

It is a command to be baptised after salvation.. but following commands isn't the way of salvation. Because we fail in that all the time. It's by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, who is God and Saviour.

Be immersed into forgiveness of sins. To me, this seems to more accurately reflect the Greek manuscripts. The medium for immersion is actually given in the verse itself. You don’t have to assume it’s a water immersion. No water is mentioned.

This mirrors exactly what we see here.

Immersion into Christ is immersion into forgiveness of sins.

We must all pray for the wisdom, understanding and the knowledge from Elohim. That is, from the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit..

Isaiah wrote eown what was given Him by Elohim, thus if he wrote that the Son given us by the Virgen would be called all of these titles, kHe is all of them.

This is a mystery yet to be fully revealed ergo for any flesh to deny the Word of God is in error. Jesus is God ddAlmighty, the Everlasting Father, the Ruler of Peace, and the Comforter and Councelor. Do not declare you truly understaqnd this to not be so, for it is a very, very sad error.

That has always been a bit of a conundrum. Obviously the apostles would not be contradicting Christ in this matter. So there must be some other explanation for this. In the end all Christians have obeyed the words of Christ in Matthew 28:19.

"Now concerning baptism, baptize as follows: after you have reviewed all these things, baptize in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit in running water. But if you have no running water, then baptize in some other water; and if you are not able to baptize in cold water, then do so in warm. But if you have neither, then pour water on the head three times in the name of the Father and Son and Holy Spirit. And before the baptism let the one baptizing and the who who is to be baptized fast, as well as any others who are able. Also, you must instruct the one who is to be baptized to fast for one or two days beforehand."

Didache, ch. 7 (early 2nd century) trans. Michael W. Holmes, The Apostolic Fathers: Greek Texts and English Translations, 3rd edn (Grand Rapids: Baker, 2007).

Long term baptist tells me that is their belief. In studying their time frame it is since the 1960's. It is my understanding that the baptist associations have taught this for several years...since 1960's. I want to validate the teaching and when it began.
I've been a member of three different Baptist conventions, over the years, as we moved:
Canadian Southern Baptist
North American Baptist
Baptists of Western Canada.

While there were a few differences in polity & organization they all agree theologically, except one area. BWC have
been ordaining woman since the 1950's, the other two do not ordain women. But every other doctrine was the same.

All three are in agreement that baptism does NOT save you, nor communion. Only faith in Christ saves, although we get baptized because Jesus ordained it, by getting baptized by John the Baptist, in the River Jordan!

Obviously, Jesus did not have to be baptized to be saved. He is the Saviour! So we should get baptized, which follows Jesus' example!

Further, I have had courses in both church history & Baptist history in a CSBC seminary. There was no change in doctrine in any of these conventions, at any time, including 1960. The doctrine is based on the Bible, so how can it changed?

I was saved in May 1980, after my future husband shared the gospel with me, and the Holy Spirit touched my heart & soul. I was not baptized till 1982, with my husband in a double baptismal tank. It is a wonderful remembrance of that day, for both of us!

I was certainly saved, ministering to the lost, praying, reading my Bible and serving in the church as a person saved by the grace of God. I admit, I would have liked to have been baptized right after I was saved, but God knew the right time. My husband was still having doubts about his salvation, but sitting in the men's dressing room, he knew it was the right time to be baptized. Praise God for his timing! And glory to God for his amazing salvation!

So you are United Pentecostal? It always astonishes me when people ignore Matt 28:20

"Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,"

What do you do with this verse? It was right from the mouth of Jesus!

Just so you know, you do NOT need to post a link to the website where you accessed the Bible verse. We used Chicago Style in seminary, and it literally states because Bible verses can be accessed in many places, including hard cover Bible, no link is required. If you want, but the initials of the version you used: ESV NASB KJV NET etc. can be provided, then we can look it up in our hard cover version, or many sites that have that translation.

That is the proper way to put up verse. It stands alone with the book, chapter & verse, (and version) which you correctly provided!

Thanks Angela.

The site actually adds the link along with the book, chapter, verse, and version. If you copy from there and paste, the link will be there automatically. I guess its just their way of advertising their site.
