I did the whole 'I will tell your parents' threat and 'you will be in BIG trouble'
also I said dont practice your athletics day in the library its not a racecourse.
My new problem is how to stop them from sliding or hanging off the banister. This new library has stairs.

put up a sign, the banister may not hold your weight and we do not want you to get hurt because we care.
only works if the little people can read...if they cant, they ignore any written signs.

I went to a school that had these. Seriously what is the point of hand grips on a slope if it's going to stab your hands???

I know one school installed one for the teachers. I also have a lift in my library but it can only take 8 people at one time. Its an airless stainless steel box. The school is 3 storeys high. Why they cant make it a glass elevator like the one Charlie had in the chocolate factory I dont know.
I try to dissuade the children from climbing through the windows. In one library book story about a book fair they did just that to get the book they wanted.

Schools are basically kiddy farms really. The other day we had athletics day so the entire school walked over to the althletics stadium across the road where they have a proper race track. I was hoping there would be more incentives for children to run around than simply coming first and. a medal or certificate. Maybe have something to chase after or a tiger chasing them. round the race track.

I guess it depends , on the age of the kids , on what u mean by indoors ( in the house ) , the size of the house , if there's any safe outside space , if it's a dangerous ' indoors ' for them to b running around in , but mostly it's about discipline .
If u have started to train your kids from a young age , to do as u say , then it shouldn't b a problem . If u haven't been training them then that's the problem , not the kids.

I was not a teacher, I was their librarian
The problem was definitely with the teachers. They had them nearly all day, I only had them for 1 period a week per class and at lunchtimes.
When the teachers were not there with them, and it was lunchtime (i.e playtime) they were free to run around outside, and thought they could run into the library.

Even the doors wouldn't stop them, and if I was not there, and I had locked the door, they'd be banging on it and crowding around the door until I came and opened it, and then they would race into the library, wanting the best twirly chairs.
