Genesis 22

Offering Of Issac

1 And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am.
2 And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.
3 And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him.
4 Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off.

5 And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.
6 And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together.
7 And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?
8 And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.

9 And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood.
10 And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.
11 And the angel of the Lord called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.
12 And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.

13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.
14 And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the Lord it shall be seen.
15 And the angel of the Lord called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time,
16 And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the Lord, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son:

17 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;
18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.
19 So Abraham returned unto his young men, and they rose up and went together to Beersheba; and Abraham dwelt at Beersheba.
20 And it came to pass after these things, that it was told Abraham, saying, Behold, Milcah, she hath also born children unto thy brother Nahor;

21 Huz his firstborn, and Buz his brother, and Kemuel the father of Aram,
22 And Chesed, and Hazo, and Pildash, and Jidlaph, and Bethuel.
23 And Bethuel begat Rebekah: these eight Milcah did bear to Nahor, Abraham's brother.
24 And his concubine, whose name was Reumah, she bare also Tebah, and Gaham, and Thahash, and Maachah.

Some believe that Mount Moriah where the offering was to take place is the same location as where the Son was sacrificed on the cross.

That is incorrect. Solomon built his temple on Mount Moriah which is in Jerusalem, and Christ was sacrificed on Mount Golgotha (Mount Calvary) which is OUTSIDE Jerusalem.

Yes, Golgotha is outside the wall and to the east of the Temple mount. The Garden tomb is nearby.

Verse 2 says in part .....get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.

It is the land of Moriah. One of the mounts is Moriah where the Temple was built. Golgotha and the Garden tomb is very close to the old city wall but outside of it. Seems like Golgotha and the Temple mount may be about the same elevation. Golgotha may even be a little higher. Not sure. In any case, some believe the location of Abraham's offering and the offering of the Son of YAH are the exact same place. That would explain why YAH says in verse 2 .....upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.

The name Moriah meaning "YAH has chosen" is also telling. He picked the spot long before His Son was offered there. And yes, it was outside the gate and wall.

Hebrews 13

10 We have an altar from which those who serve the holy tabernacle have no right to eat. 11 For the bodies of those animals, whose blood is brought into the holy place by the high priest as an offering for sin, are burned outside of the camp. 12 Therefore Yeshua also, that He might sanctify the people through His Own blood, suffered outside of the gate. 13 Let’s therefore go out to Him outside of the camp, bearing His reproach. 14 For we don’t have here an enduring city, but we seek that which is to come. 15 Through Him, then, let’s offer up a sacrifice of praise to YAH continually, that is, the fruit of lips which proclaim allegiance to His Name. 16 But don’t forget to be doing good and sharing, for with such sacrifices YAH is well pleased.

Need to make a correction. The Garden Tomb is north west of the Temple mount. On the map it appears to be about 800 feet outside the old city wall.

What's noteworthy about Genesis 22 is the fact that the angel of the Lord who calls out of heaven two times at Genesis 22:11 and at vs15 is the preincarnate Jesus Christ. Jesus is the one at vs16 that swears the oath and blesses Abraham that through his seed the Messiah will come forth. This alone proves that the angel of the Lord is "NOT" an actual angel as some believe.

Also, the writer of the book of Hebrews backs this up at Hebrews 6:13-16, "For when God made the promise to Abraham, since He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself, vs14, saying, I will surely bless you, and I will surely multiply you." vs15, "And thus, having patiently waited, he obtained the promise. vs16, For men swear by one greater than themselves, and with them an oath given as confirmation is an end of every dispute."

Any being delivering a message is a messenger, the meaning of angel.

In Gneiss 22 is the prophecy of our Lord's coming to make propitiation for our sins', providing we come to Him.

The Fasther does not make errors in His Book thou sometimes people do.

Abraham informs his son, Isaac, the God will provide, Himself, a burnt offering for the sacrifice. God stopped Abraham from offering up his son, his Only Son, and Abraham espied a RAM caught by his horns in a thicket. Note, it was not a Lam Abraham offered up instead of Isaac, no, it was a ram.

Abraham unwittingly prophesied Jesus Yeshua, the Lamb for the offering. Praise God, amen.

So what's your point? I'm asking for clarification as to the identity of the angel of the Lord, who is he in your opinion? Thank You!

My point is that the entire Bible points to Jesus Yeshua.

If you read the reference as to Who it was who came down to Abraham, you will see it was Three. I have no opinions on the Father's Word to me, only what I understand given me by the Holy Spirit, so when I say the three Angels were the Father, theSon and the Holy Spirit, it is what I undersstood the firsst several times I read the Word and since believe.

Only Two went to Sodom, and there wicked men actually wanted to violat them. Can you imagine, wanting to raape God, not even a glimmer of possibility there.

God, Himself was the messenger here, but which persons I cannot say. Itend to believe the Holy Spirit is the one who did not accompany the other two., but believe it or not, I could be wrong, and I give all that who do not believe what I have purported here, but I do not argue with them. Stay away workd splitters.

Becuase of retorts of others within this thread I felt it only correct to share bout the prophecy, inadvertant as it was, of Abraham foretelling the Lamb of God. Worthy of sharing I hope.

Now your referencing Genesis 18. Vs1, "Now the Lord appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, while he was sitting at the tent door in the heat of the day." Before this event at Genesis 18 please read Genesis 17:1-2, "Now when Abraham was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, "I am God Almighty; Walk before Me, and be blameless, vs2, And I will establish My covenant between Me and you, And I will multiply you exceedingly."

Here at Genesis 17 and at Genesis 18 is a "physical" appearance of God. This is verified at Genesis 17:22, "And when He/God finished talking with him, God went up from Abraham." Also, at Genesis 18 it was a physical appearance of the Lord and two angels because Abraham offers them food. You said, "I have no opinions on the Father's Word to me, only what I understand given me by the Holy Spirit, so when I say the three Angels were the Father, theSon and the Holy Spirit, it is what I undersstood the firsst several times I read the Word and since believe."

The problem with your statement is the fact that God the Father cannot be seen and neither can the person of the Holy Spirit. This is what Jesus stated at John 5:37 and at John 6:46. Getting back to Genesis 18 notice that Abraham has an extensive dialogue with God Himself. Also notice at Genesis 18:33, the last verse it says, "And as soon as He/God had finished speaking to Abraham the LORD departed; and Abraham returned to his place."

Now look at the first verse of Genesis 19, "Now the TWO angels came to Sodom in the evening as Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw them, he rose to meet them and bowed down with his face to the ground." In short, the first person of the three was the Lord Himself and the other two were actual angels. Hope this helps your understanding of these events.

When the parents-to-be of Samson talked to God, He appeared as an Angle to them, and dthey had offered up an offering to Hem, not realizing He was God. Or if you prefer, He was Yahweh.

Yahweh instructed Moses the He would be what He qould be. For me this also explains by faith the meaning of Isaiah 9:6 where we are taught a virgin would conceive and the Baabe would be called, among other titles, Almighty God, Father everlasting, Comforter, Counselor, and Ruler of Peace.

No one other thant our Savior could possibly explain this , however the gift of faith given each of us by the Father allows us to firmly believe all spoken to Abraham, the aprents of samson, and toIsaish.
No, I will nto say I cn explain, but I will share what I have be3lieved b faith always.

Sounds like the Father speaking based on what He said.

1 And it came to pass after these things, that Elohim did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am.
2 And He said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.

11 And the angel of YHVH called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.
12 And He said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest Elohim, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from Me.

15 And the angel of YHVH called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time,
16 And said, By Myself have I sworn, saith YHVH, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son:

17 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;
18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed My voice.

If the translation had used His Name where present in the words instead of substituting "the Lord", it would have been more clear.
