Great choices! Defector was really well done. Very exciting.

I really liked Tapestry too, really well told story. One of my christian friends didn't like what they thought the moral was, that a person's past sins somehow were good or essential things to make someone the excellent person they are today. I think you might say it worked for Paul.

Yep, I remember seeing "Q Who?" the first time... when Q pushed the ship out millions of light years past anyone had ever gone before... I was like whoah! And the Borg were going to be the death of them. Plus the whole Borg communal ideal. Heavy ep.

I thought the Borg was bonafide Star Trek, truly a new race and civilization. That was in the spirit of ST if ever a NG episode was.

I was thinking recently, it's interesting that Q is in Star Trek also. Some sort of god-like entity. I wonder if the Q military movement could be the false prophet spoken of in Revelation. Or perhaps an AI type of beast?

The media often refers to it as Qanon, but of course, there's no such thing as that. Unless you count government sponsored terrorists (e.g. FBI entrapment types). If you've never heard of it, I'm sure you will once they're blamed for the next false flag.

Oh, that Q. I thought that might be the Q you mean. Yep, I know who Q is... I mean, not personally.

I kinda doubt Q(s) is important enough to be spoken of in Revelation. And maybe not a false prophet. = )

Sadly, this is about as clean as I can get it at the moment. I've been renting the same spot in my roommate's house since 2018, and when I moved in I had many boxes of stuff from when I lived in Dallas. Now, after all this time, most of that stuff is still boxed up - I just don't have the space to put it anywhere. If I were to turn the webcam to my left, you'd see how absolutely insane my bed has become. I didn't have anywhere to put stuff, so it wound up on the bed, and I started sleeping in the living room.

Welcome to the thread! Are watched your vid and don't disagree with you.

Of course, 90+% of the Original Series and Next Gen episodes were not written by Roddenberry. I'm no expert, but I think I heard, at least while he was alive, he did lay down the basic themes and made some editorial decisions on the scripts.

Considering what you had to say about Rodenberry's philosophy, the Original Series episode "Bread and Circuses" is certainly surprising. It's his story and he co-wrote the script. I would say it's a very christian friendly story, with a positive nod to Christ at the end.

There are certainly plenty of themes and episodes that a christian would likely have issues with, but the 10 years of episodes are about a million different things.

1. You took six minutes to say something that should have taken only seven seconds. "I don't like Star Trek because I found out the originator had some philosophical beliefs i disagree with."

2. Have you seen any Next Gen episodes? The vast majority of them are about overcoming problems with brains instead of brawn.

3. No arguments? Spare you? Really? You come in and dump on a thread for Star Trek fans, and then say you're not going to entertain any arguments? That's rather arrogant. (The part about "rational minds" was especially egotistical, as it infers anybody who has the temerity to argue with you is irrational.)

3. (Part 2) I mean really! Are you next going to visit a biking club and talk about how bodily exercise profiteth little, and then say, "Nope, nope, I'm not going to argue about this! Anybody with a rational mind, I hope you can listen to what I'm saying, but I'm not going to debate this with you!"

I don't know which version you're talking about, but the only fairly-recent movie that let me down was "Superman Returns", from 2006. In my opinion, its biggest flaw was that instead of telling an original story, the film was made as a pseudo-sequel to "Superman II". As a result, it contains a lot of stuff that was extremely over-the-top, even for that year's standards. I mostly blame Bryan Singer for that - he admitted being a huge Christopher Reeve fan, and I am too. But sometimes, a project really does need to stand on its own.

Not to be anti-American (because I am a patriot), but it does make some level of sense for the character. How does a being as powerful as him protect the entire world, if he has to worry about the political concerns of just one country? He can still fight for and defend American values, but that doesn't mean he has to permanently ally himself with any government.

Really?! That's surprising. Do recall what reasons he gave? I suppose in the comic if things changed enough, he might have a good reason.
