I'm also black and I find it hard to be offended by Disney. The crows from Dumbo are hilarious and portray a harmless stereotype of African-Americans in the 1940s, so no racism there.

I agree... I don't think it's maliciously racist, just harmless (albeit ignorant) stereotypes.

Seems like any time Disney includes black characters, they're all ignorant kinda backwoods characters from the deep south. Even their new Disney princess is from some voodoo swamp. I haven't actually seen that one, but the media coverage on it was pretty entertaining. I imagine that's what it was like when Song of the South came out.

I'm white, so what do I care, but I can understand why some people might be offended. Disney still refuses to release Song of the South because of the controversy, and it was an Academy Award Winner! It's where the iconic ZIP-A-DEE-DO-DA comes from.

*sigh*

I guess along these same lines- one of my favorite Disney movies is the Jungle Book. The jazzy music was THE BEST and those monkeys were hilarious. They reminded me of the crows from Dumbo.

Monkeys.

Crows.

I never thought that was racist when I was growing up and if someone had told me it was racist I probably would've thought they were joking. Now that I'm an adult- I get it. I'm not personally offended (and I'm still entertained) but I totally get it.
 
it really is hilarious to see people being blinded by the Law of Parsimony
 
Well we could just go with your opinion of humankind and assume the absolute worst about everything...Id rather not live such a miserable existence though
 
I brought up subliminal boners like 3 pages ago. Just sayin'.
 
Subliminal messages do not work. It won't matter how much research proves this, there will still be people out there convinced they work but hate to break it to you, they don't.
 
Even if subliminal messaging worked, it wouldn't hold a candle to convincing people via extrapolating on ideas they already hold.

Perhaps it is time for us to create the Christian Disney channel - featuring female characters like Leah, Rachel, etc.
 
Why do you guys try to nitpick every movie made by Disney or whatshisname? Do you really have to find something Satanic in every movie ever made? Has it ever occurred to you that maybe these movies are meant for enjoying and absorbing the positive messages and NOT for some bull#### propaganda? Go on! Pick on Star Wars, The Taxi Driver and other great movies, why stop at Disney? There surely are other ones which will no doubt trigger your paranoia and turn you into the soccermoms and soccerdads which contribute nothing to society and ruin children's lives. Don't like it? Throw your TV out the window and go live in the woods!

Someone needs to watch a Disney movie and glean some positive influence.
