Thursday 7-27-23 5th. Day Of The Weekly Cycle, AV 9 5783, 36th. Summer Day

1 Thessalonians 5

Description Of The Day Of The Lord

1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.

2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.

8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

Instruction For Holy Living

12 And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;

13 And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves.

14 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.

15 See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.

16 Rejoice evermore.

17 Pray without ceasing.

18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

19 Quench not the Spirit.

20 Despise not prophesyings.

21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.

Conclusion

23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.

25 Brethren, pray for us.

26 Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.

27 I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren.

28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.

I love this passage of scripture, @Walter; thanks for posting it. :)

Paul has frequently said in his writings that Christ will return at the last trump. "The day of the Lord" refers to the day of Christ's second coming. On this day, Jesus Christ will arrive on earth, establish His kingdom, put everything right, and rule over this earthly kingdom for a millennium-long period of time. This is clearly stated and it will come to pass exactly as it is written. IMG_5750.gif

Timing of scriptures are everything when it comes to end time events. the Day of the Lord is key to understanding.

When the people say (Israel) peace and security then--------

Do you really think the Day of the Lord begins when the Lord returns at the end of the Tribulation for these to take place?

Isaiah 13:
9 Behold, the day of the Lord comes,
cruel, with wrath and fierce anger,
to make the earth a desolation
and to destroy its sinners from it.
10 For the stars of the heavens and their constellations
will not give their light;
the sun will be dark at its rising
and the moon will not shed its light.
11 I will punish the world for its evil,
and the wicked for their iniquity;
I will put an end to the pride of the arrogant,
and lay low the haughtiness of the ruthless.
12 I will make men more rare than fine gold,
and mankind than the gold of Ophir.
13 Therefore I will make the heavens tremble,
and the earth will be shaken out of its place,
at the wrath of the Lord of hosts
in the day of his fierce anger.
14 And like a hunted gazelle,
or like sheep with none to gather them,
every man will turn to his own people,
and every man will flee to his own land.
15 Whoever is found will be thrust through,
and whoever is caught will fall by the sword.
16 Their infants will be dashed in pieces
before their eyes;
their houses will be plundered
and their wives ravished.

amen another very relevant witness

“This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance: that ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:

knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: but the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.”
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭3:1-18‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,”
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭1:1-2‬ ‭

“Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; and declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead: by whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name: among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ: to all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭1:1, 3-7‬ ‭

i like this concept but in scriptire New Testament and old

“This is the third time I am coming to you. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭13:1‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭14:29‬ ‭

“Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses.”
‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭5:19‬ ‭

“But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭18:16‬ ‭

The apostles like Peter and Paul were Jesus chosen witnesses to all the world of the gospel that Jesus is lord , that he’s offered salvstion to all , that he died and rose and lives forever that he alone can give us salvation from death hell and the grave, when we start to hear then working together like what Paul says in your post and what Peter then says in his writings even pertaining to Paul’s letters

accepting fully of Paul’s apostleship and wisdom and that he is a brother in Christ filled with the same spirit but yet Peter warns tbat unstable and deceptive ignorant people will use Paul’s letters to distort the message Paul was speaking that can cause us to fall from our own steadfastness and vigilance

a Peter is also preaching Gods grace like Paul and both teach the same things about living upright lives while we wait for the redemption to come of creation when Jesus returns and our new promises hone with him where sin is no more

then we come over to johns witness and Luke’s and find out about repentance and the law of mercy that triumphs over judgement and love that covers multitudes of sin each witness adds understsnding for us but every witness is speaking from the holy spirit of the lord Jesus Christ

The prophet, Joel, speaks of the day of the Lord in chapter 2.
areas 2 Peter chapter 3 and compare to Paul’s words regarding the day of the lord here and also elsewhere

“But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.”
‭‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5:1-3‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.”
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭3:9-10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

often people convince us they aren’t talking about the same thing but they are , the day of the lord is a consistent part of doctrine almost everyone spoke of it in some form

As long as a person shows in a way that is not defiling.
AHHH you have the wrong message,

From the research,

giving your brethren a holy kiss refers to how religious people greet each other.

Paul was speaking to religious leaders. The brethren he is speaking about is a religious practice, practiced by holy leaders and holy teachers.

So there for 1 Thessalonians was a letter wrote to the Thessalonian leaders.

Ok now seeing as Paul was addressing holy teachers why was he telling them to put on a breast plate of righteousness when the righteousness is on the inside for believers.

Was it because Paul was writing a letter that he hadn't finished.

And lastly does this letter apply to Christians, because surely the holy spirit does all this for you

Are you discussing this or not, can you answer if 1 Thessalonians was for religious leaders who had not yet been born again and an unfinished letter

The Day of the Lord will be Glorious for those who know Him and call upon His name. ….but for those who don’t call upon Him and deny His name, it will be Great and Terrible.
…Selah

The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.

- Joel 2:31-32 (KJV)
