By the way, I didn't start with a conclusion. I came to this conclusion by reading the Word of God and reasoning that the flood waters couldn't have traveled so far (based on what I was taught in science class in school). If you believe this can be explained by a spherical earth, please enlighten us on the distance between the earth and the stars, so that we might know how far the flood waters fell to the earth from above the sun, moon, and stars.

@NightTwister - do you not believe what these verses say?

Genesis 7:

11 In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.

Genesis 8:

2 The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained;

Where exactly do you believe the 'windows of heaven' are/were?

The words 'normal-average' best describe the tendency of people on CC to avoid at-all-costs having simple discussion for-any-and-every-excuse at-the-drop-of-a-hat at-any-time-possible whenever-given-the-opportunity.

Gary, I've re-read this entire thread, and I don't see where anyone has argued against as to WHERE the "windows of heaven" are located (above the luminaries). NightTwister alluded to (based on your question) and ALMOST stated he believed the rain came from clouds, but there weren't rain-clouds before the flood, so I wouldn't hold him to it. I know the reason you asked the question was essentially to point out that no one is willing to address is the initial question of this thread: So how far did the water fall to the earth? It is the DISTANCE no one wants to deal with, but then, that's the point of the proposition, is to get one to think seriously about what the Word of God teaches in Genesis chapter 1. No one on a "Christian" forum wants to outright deny the Word of God, and they don't know what else to say (because It says what It says), do they don't say anything (at least not anything that addresses the thread's focus).

What you have is not a model based on the word of God, but rather based on your interpretation of the word of God. In other words, you have circular reasoning.

Nobody has answered the question because none of us were there to measure the distance of the rain's fall. Duh.

The Firmament is actually the entirety of our three-dimensional Universe. The Firmament includes Earth's atmosphere.

Note that birds fly in the Firmament...

Genesis 1:20
"And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven."

Obviously, birds do not fly in outer space. Thus, there is another Heaven that is missing from Church Doctrines and missing from your thesis.

Start by reading Genesis 1 in several different translations. BibleGateway.com can help you with this.

You appear to start with the belief that the Earth is flat, then attempt to prove your case with Scripture, instead of starting by attempting to understand fully what Scripture is saying and building your worldview from that.
