I feel no need to fight the crowds just to get some stuff. Deals just aren't worth it to me, plus it's just not what Christmas is supposed to be about. Too much emphasis on things.

What is black Friday? In the UK it usually describes some sort of crash on the stock market?

Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving here in the US, big shopping day. The stores have all kinds of huge sales with great prices. And people go nuts, waiting in long lines for hours for one item, getting into fights over what they want. It's considered a kickoff to the Christmas shopping season, and retail takes in a lot of money. It has gotten ridiculous. People steal things out of others' shopping carts, and they have trampled each other trying to be the first to get that must-have item. It's crazy.

It sounds a bit like the cartoon wacky races - I don't know if you remember that so I have posted
the link below. Actually now I have watched it, I pretty sure wacky races most have been based on the USA Black Friday!

Black Friday.
Thoughts?

To answer the OP (after 11 years) no, i don't stand in line in the freezing cold so i can get a videogame or some gadget on sale.
I did once, about 20 years ago when i was trying to buy a whole set of kitchen appliances and i found out that none of them were in any type of significant sale.
So after feeling like a fool for a few minutes, i then went home, had some hot chocolate and never did any type of black friday sales and standing in line.

I have no interest in black friday sales. I've had too many friends with laptops they bought at black friday sales, wanting me to fix them when they break. I have to tell them all the same thing: "Sorry, that thing is junk. No way I can fix it."

Oh well. They spent a good three months (average) thinking they got a good deal before it was all ruined.

My kids are all grown up now so no need to shop on Black Friday. Also, it's no longer what it used to be. It used to be the lowest prices of the year now it's just another sale. Back in the day I did a lot of Black Friday shopping. I'm not above suffering a little to pay less for something I'd buy anyway. One year I bought 3 or 4 laptops for the kids. Not a one of them ever had a problem, they eventually were retired from old age.

Someone around here sure takes that recycling moto seriously.
Use and REuse.
Just pull that 2012 thread out of the back of the refrigerator and YUP, still looks good.

I've seen threads from 2009 resurface. I think sometimes they do it the easy way: hit that right arrow button for the first ever threads in that forum and just look for something entertaining.

But Black Friday is an enduring topic, something that can just as well be discussed today.

I guess it's about zero carbon emissions trying to save bandwidth.. .
Indeed, this is about saving the planet. Why make a new thread when one exists already?
You‘re an artist Bob, so you should appreciate this.
So, how about you? Have you done any standing out in the cold for a super Mario game or a laptop or a new set of painting brushes?

Time is money, bro. All that time wasted standing in line could have paid for better stuff. :p
