My point is, and I believe it critical; if we divide God's word in two and then reject half as "Old" and only preach what is "New"' we miss seeing the full truth. Even worse, there is a risk, especially for new believers, to fall into false worship. I see and hear evidence of that every day, and I haven't even mentioned the word "Grace" yet. Much of the modern church has gone astray from its roots and is suffering for that error. Using "Old" Testament quotes to support a "New" Testament sermon just doesn't do justice to God's word.
Before the hate starts, I am not in any way minimizing or downplaying the works and deeds of Jesus who is my Lord and Savior. I am perhaps pleading for people to see his redemption in a much larger framework; to see his grace in a richer, deeper and more exciting way. Pleading with others to take the time to read and thrill at the full story of God's grace in all it's Glory. Pleading for the truth to be preached, not just part.
I apologize ahead if my words cause offence, they are not met to do so.
“
Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.
Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.”
Isaiah 43:18-19 KJV
“
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:”
Jeremiah 31:31-32 KJV
“so shall he
sprinkle many nations; the kings shall shut their mouths at him: for
that which had not been told them shall they see; and
that which they had not heard shall they consider.”
Isaiah 52:15 KJV
“how that by revelation
he made known unto me the mystery; which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;
that
the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:”
Ephesians 3:3, 5-6 KJV
“but
ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable
company of angels, to the general assembly and
church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and
to the spirits of just men made perfect, and
to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.”
Hebrews 12:18-24 KJV
“And I saw a
new heaven and a new earth: for the
first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
And I John saw
the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for
the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said,
Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.”
Revelation 21:1-5 KJV
