I agree with that passage 100%. So, that verse says not of works . Other translations, the Interlinear, the Greek and the Lexicon say "not as a result of works." That is what the bible says we cannot earn our salvation as a result of our works. I agree with that 100%. I suggest to you men have taken it too far and say without works. The bible doesn't say without works. Man says that.

We can see that from the examples you listed.

Noah, what if he hadn't of built the ark. He would have drowned. It was by God's grace he was saved. God told him of a coming destruction and told him exactly what he needed to do to be saved.

Abraham did many things God told him but lets use the example you mentioned. If Abraham hadn't gotten circumcised, he would have broken God's covenant and there is no telling what God would have done.
The bible tells us this about Abraham.
and I will establish the oath that I swore to Abraham your father. 4 I will multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven and will give to your offspring all these lands. And in your offspring all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, 5 because Abraham obeyed my voice and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.”
Abraham was faithful because he obeyed God.

Moses is a good example that you brought up earlier. If Zipporah or Moses hadn't have circumcised their son, God was going to kill Moses because he broke God's covenant. He didn't earn his life by doing what he should have done in the first place but he sure was going to lose it if he hadn't obeyed.

The bible tells us God will destroy those who do not obey the gospel.
8 in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9 They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might,
By obeying we can never earn our salvation but if we do not obey, that passage is what will happen to us.

Here's another one that says the same thing,
John 3:36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.

Maybe this will help. We don't earn our salvation, by obeying we are only doing our duty.
Luke 17:10 So you also, when you have done all that you were commanded, say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done what was our duty.’”

Could you please point me to a verse/passage that tells us that. I'm not aware of one.
Great post. I especially appreciated being reminded of those scriptures that directly apply to the topic:

"The bible tells us God will destroy those who do not obey the gospel.
8 in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9 They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might,

Lol I wonder how a stranger would take that response @Pilgrimshope,

He might say your not dirty are you haha.

I would say simply go and be baptised then lol
“For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: by which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh,( lol) but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.”

Water baptism for remission of sin is a part of the gospel message, by God's design, as specifically stated in the Gospel of Mark:

" THE BEGINNING OF THE GOSPEL of Jesus Christ, the Son of God;
As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, WHICH SHALL PREPARE THEY WAY before thee.
The voice of one crying in the wilderness, PREPARE YE THE WAY OF THE LORD, make his paths straight.

John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins." Mark 1:1-5
agree
John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins.”

“Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, and said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:

and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭24:45-47‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins,

and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭2:38-39‬ ‭KJV‬‬

This is how baptism should actually be

“Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture,( he was sitting reading Isaiah 53 ) and preached unto him Jesus.

And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?

And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭8:35-39‬ ‭KJV‬‬
...
Many refute the idea that water baptism is part of the gospel message. However, the account you mention reveals that idea is far from the truth. Philip's message clearly stressed the significance of being water baptized. This reality is apparent in the eunuch being compelled to obey the command at the very first opportunity.

"Save yourselves" means to enter into the salvation that has been provided. How can anyone add to perfection? Lord said from the cross, "It is finished!" We are in effect "spiritually bankrupt". All we have to offer God is the sin that sent Jesus to the cross.

"They that received Peter's word.........." Yes. The gospel is the power of God to save. Baptism follows salvation. New believers "should" be baptised. No, it is not a case of "must" be baptised.

The truth of baptism by immersion was lost to the church for centuries. Martin Luther was sprinkled as an infant. The baptismal regeneration doctrine says that Martin Luther is in hell. Calvin likewise. George Muller was saved for 8 years before he was baptised as an adult. He studied God's word and decided that he needed to be baptised. The unsaved are not going to study God's word! If they did, they would not understand it.
Keep in mind that the group had previously acknowledged their belief in Jesus. That is a very important fact. Especially since people believe that nothing but believing in Jesus is necessary for salvation.

You are refusing to accept what the scripture specifically states was required of them (their duty) concerning "saving themselves:"

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.

Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine..." Acts 2:38-42

Yes others reacted the same they just heard it and believed and acted like acts chapter two “ those who accepted the word got baptized and were added to the church ( I’m sure others there thought that’s not anything so they didn’t get baptized rejecting peters words )

baptism is such a simple word to hear and follow and it’s based upon what he said and did and commanded for all nations . it isn’t done work where by someone is trying to earn salvstion lol those kind of thoughts aren’t found in the body of Christ to be honest with you brother God doesn’t want anyone going around explaining his doctrines are stupid and foolish and not the right way

you know what I mean ? It’s almost like sad in some ways that we take the simplest truth given To us by the lord and we just cannot accept it can’t take him at his word and trust what he said that’s all he’s ever required of a man to hear and believe him

It’s a free gift offered by God through the operation of faith wherby we receive his word tbat our sins are remitted knowing we have believed and done what he said will remit our sins to obey what god said when he makes a promise …..there’s nothing else like it because it leaves the situation on his word and ability to make it happen he tells us “ lift your hand up and there will be darkness “ if we’ll act so will he

Calling upon the name of the Lord Jesus is all that is required or desired by God. Jesus, and Jesus alone, is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
It is in water baptism that the name of the Lord is called upon:

"And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth.
For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard.
And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord." Acts 22:14-16

Also, notice how the following scripture relates to Jesus' statement concerning belief and baptism being necessary in order to be saved? (Mark 16:15-16)

"To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins...
"Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord." Acts 10:43, 47-48

Yes. I found through personal experience, as well as the witness of others, that the significance of water baptism greatly increased AFTER obedience to the command, not before. Those who act upon what is specifically stated without the need to dispute it are taking a step of faith. The reality of what occurred hits home for many well after the act of obedience. It reminds me of at least two things:

1. Jesus stated that unless a man is born again he cannot SEE (comprehend) the kingdom.

2. Paul revealed some individuals had no idea what occurred as a result of their placing trust in God and obeying the command to be baptized. (Romans 6:3-6)

nice scripture pill

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit. 19 After being made alive,[a] he went and made proclamation to the imprisoned spirits— 20 to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water, 21 and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God.[b] It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22 who has gone into heaven and is at God’s right hand—with angels,
authorities and powers in submission to him

A question for you buddy

Is it the conscience that is no longer dirty after water baptism 😊

I think what he’s saying there is it’s not that we get our body wet and it makes our body clean from dirt , but it’s that when a person gets baptized because God said it’s for remission of thier sins

It clears thier conscience from all thier orior sins that kept them from approaching God with a clean heart the power is that we’re trusting what he said and we o me yes we believed and got baptized in Jesus name for remission because that’s what he said and so now our conscience has Gods witness saying you shall be saved because we fulfilled the “ whoever believes and is baptized part “

arhat may sound stupid lol I’m not sure I’m not greet at saying what I’m trying to say sometimes but

if God said get repent and get baptized for remission of sins in Jesus name , and then a person does that it’s based on Gods statement so the believers conscience can be assured he remitted all my sins

this doesn’t mean now I’m saved and can live as I please of course , it does mean my sins have now been remitted according to Jesus death burial and resurrection and this according to his own words in tbe scriptures

i think when a person says something like what I’m saying it sort of raises more questions that need addressing like “ what exactly is repentance or remission of sins how does baptism relate tonjesus death and resurrection ? Ect ect so then I sort of get jumbled and wander a little or a lot lol o apologize my brain isnt ordered like it once was

also I’m not saying if someone can’t get baptized or don’t then they are lost forever but rather it’s a witness to our conscience

understood completely

The way I look at is Jesus did not need to be saved and was baptised.

I views this as two things, one he wanted to show even saved people should get baptised and unsaved people.

Next questions
Is there or should there be a limit on water baptism ?

And has a lost practice been lost amongst the church

So now the different practices

Well if a saved person does water baptism like Jesus then there must be something very special about doing it.

One thing that springs to mind is not a practice of mine, but is a view point of other denominations, that one form of baptism of cleansing of sins is to confess your sins before God to a brother in christ also , which does not include water baptism, the practices of catholics.

Now to the baptism of John the Baptist, when John the Baptist baptized people, did he say confess your sins before God before baptizing And did they confess there sins to John, before he baptized them.

If there was such a legitimate case for this has something been lost.

If there is no legitimate case for this can you show me other wise.

“The way I look at is Jesus did not need to be saved and was baptised.”

yes jesus didn’t have to do anything he did for us it’s all because of his grace . Getting baptized is an example for believers it’s a u itt with Christ that he himself taught like communion if we don’t take things like that for what he’s saying they lose the faith value to us if we don’t let the scripture teach us I mean so like some person can read something like this

“For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: and when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.

After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.

For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.

Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭11:23-30‬ ‭KJV‬‬

we can read this but often we don’t actually hear it it doesn’t break through what we already believe and think for instance “ communion does t mean anything important eating bread and drinking from a cup isn’t going to matter one way or the. Other “

we often do that and we take the effective power out of what he said things mean and for us to do them , which then removes the effectiveness of Paul’s writings or peters because we’ve removed one brick of doctrinal foundation and things shift

i think it’s when we let what we are learning be true even though I didn’t know that before or someone told me different there it is before my eyes from an apostle I could dig and look at what Jesus said in other places about his body and blood or what oeter and Paul had to say about the body and blood of the lord ect

baptism is the same way it’s an operation of faith if we hear about it and say “we’ll that’s dumb no one needs to get wet for anything silly …..” we’re just removing the effectual power in the doctrine we’re rejecting that God actually sent to us of all nations until tbe end of the world and said anyone that believes will be saved …. It’s like a counter productive act against faith if we hear it and reject it because faith is when we hear and believe the things he sent in the gospel to all of us for salvation by faith

“And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭28:18-20‬ ‭

These days ot doesn’t seem like anyone wants to hear anything but “ your saved by grace you don’t need to hear or do anything else don’t let anyone tell you dofeeent no matter what “

aim becoming more and. Ore suspicious that it’s “ the big lie “ which I believe helps with revelation also

“And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, and with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: that they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”
‭‭2 Thessalonians‬ ‭2:8-12‬ ‭KJV‬‬

If we’re told “grace means you don’t need to do anything God said you need to do or you don’t need to change those things he said you need to change you don’t need to believe the warnings he gave us or the call to repentance he made your already saved the end “

It’s just the opposite of everything Jesus taught and said was the truth he came into the world to witness

“The way I look at is Jesus did not need to be saved and was baptised.”
Jesus was baptized by John, which was a baptism of REPENTENCE.

Jesus REPENTED of his present life (Head of Mary's family, and a Professional carpenter), and walked out into his teaching ministry.

REPENTENCE has nothing to do with SIN necessarily. It simply means a "change of direction".

John's baptism isn't related to the baptism of Born Again Christians.

‭‭2 Thessalonians‬ ‭2:8-12‬
‭KJV‬‬

If we’re told “grace means you don’t need to do anything God said you need to do or you don’t need to change those things he said you need to change you don’t need to believe the warnings he gave us or the call to repentance he made your already saved the end “

It’s just the opposite of everything Jesus taught and said was the truth he came into the world to witness
this is how I see it
When you light a candle it is never dark and you do not hide the candle under a bowl,

Nope you put the candle on a stand so that those who come in can see it 😊

This is why Jesus got baptised

REPENTENCE has nothing to do with SIN necessarily. It simply means a "change of direction".

John's baptism isn't related to the baptism of Born Again Christians.
John's baptism IS related to the baptism of born again Christians. As revealed from scripture, John was sent by God to introduce water baptism for remission of sin. Water baptism was later modified to include the use of the name of Jesus as prophesied by Jesus, (Luke 24:47) and presented first by Peter on the Day of Pentecost. (Acts 2:38) Those who obey the NT command do so as it is an essential part of the rebirth experience made possible by Jesus' death, burial and resurrection. (John 3:3-5, Mark 16:15-16, Matthew 28:19...)

I wonder If Jesus has a choice of preference when washing feet 😊.

He could have hired a manicure but he never, and I wonder if he washed stinky feet too.

How would he have coped with bunions or athletes foot.

I would imagine he wouldn't of cared really.

But with me he would probably have to perform a miracle to stop me from laughing as my feet are so ticklish, I wonder if Jesus would actually stop you from laughing tho 🤣
