Im sorry for your bad experience there. I never went to Israel but I assume there are people of all kinds here, some more friendly some less. Like everywhere else.
Israel is about 2 percent Christian only and most of them are Arabs so they likely suffer some level of discrimination. Im also an ethnic and religious minority in my country so I emphatize with them.

There is no "obsession" with Israel. However, if you are a Bible-believing Christian, you need to know God's plan not only for the Church (which includes both redeemed Jews and Gentiles) but also God's plan for redeemed and restored Israel (the twelve tribes) under Christ.
Unfortunately too many Christians have not been shown this plan, and do not understand that the Abrahamic Covenant has not been completely fulfilled as yet. Paul warns Christians to not be "high-minded" about unbelieving Jews, since one day (he says) "All Israel shall be saved". And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written [in the OT], There shall come out of Sion [Jerusalem] the Deliverer [the Lord Jesus Christ], and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob [the twelve tribes of Israel]: (Rom 11:26) Of course he is not including unbelieving Jews in that statement. "All Israel" means every one of the twelve tribes of Israel.
But people will say "What about the ten "lost tribes"? Well they are not "lost" to God therefore He gives us a glimpse of "all Israel" in Revelation 7 and 14. Those 144,000 redeemed Jews are from the twelve tribes. and that prophecy is for the future. Then in Ezekiel 48 God gives us a list of the twelve tribes given their allotted portions of land in greater Israel (also in the future).
Modern Israel DOES NOT represent "believing Israel", even though God wants every Jew to be saved. Also "Messianic Jews" (believers in Yeshua ha Mashiach) in Israel are violating New Testament principles by segregating themselves from Gentile churches. Regardless of all this, Christians need to know what the Bible says, and what will be in the future under Christ.
