We are told to “walk (or live) in the Spirit so that we will not fulfill the lusts of our flesh”… how do you do that? Especially when under spiritual attack!?!

You do what God says to do, even when it looks like it's not going to work.

Also you let go of what you want when it conflicts with what God wants for everybody, not just you.

It takes a lot of trial and error. Sometimes you honestly think God is telling you one thing, but it turns out that's just you trying to convince yourself to do what you want to do anyway. Experience helps you figure out when it is you and when it is really god telling you to do something.

When under attack, first and foremost is to hold onto the truth of God's Word, whatever you think or feel. The truths we must hold onto?

We are crucified with Christ. That means we are dead to sin, self, the Law, Satan and the world.
We are raised from the dead together with Christ
We are therefore new creations in Christ.
We have new life, life that comes out of death.
We have the victory now. We do not need to wait.
Tribulation is part of the normal Christian experience.
We have the indwelling Holy Spirit.
Jesus is Lord! And greater is He who is within us than he who is in the world.

Doubt your doubts. Satan's first attack was on God's Word. "Did God really say............" The second attack was on God's integrity.

We need to be aware that God leads us in our intuition. Flashing thoughts or feelings are not intuition. It is hard to describe, but when it is God, it is quiet and never contradicts His word. If we seek God and ask Him to show us these things, He will. He is far more willing for us to lead us than we are to be led.

We will get it wrong at times. That's how we learn. Very often we learn by discovering what it is not, before we can see what it is. When God spoke to Elijah, first there was a powerful wind, then an earthquake, then a fire. God was in none of those. God was in the still, small voice. (I'd suggest reading 1 Kings 19).

It is vital to be cleansed from sin as soon as we know that we have sinned. If our conscience is not clear, we will not hear God clearly in our intuition. The blood of Christ is the only thing that removes sin. As a friend of mine says, "Keep short accounts with God".

If all this sounds too hard, then it is the first lie of the enemy that we need to reject. Remember that God is for us, not looking for reasons to punish us harshly for mistakes we make. He loves and cares for us continually, no matter what.

Walking in the Spirit is not us trying to do anything. It is God living through us as we submit to Him. It is that we live, but not us, but Christ living in and through us. This is why Jesus told us not to be concerned with what we shall eat or wear, or anything else, but to seek His kingdom and His righteousness.
It is born out of intimacy with God. If you truly desire to walk with God, begin by spending time with Him. Practice prayer and meditation. Study the Bible, listen to Christian programming, read good authors. Draw nigh unto God and He will draw nigh unto you. And as this happens, God will reveal more and more of Himself to you. Delight yourself in Him and He will fill your heart will holy desires. He will become so real and dear to you that you will begin to prefer Him above all else. He that is all desirable, will be desired all by you. And you will find that you can no longer find satisfaction in the things of this world because they pale in comparison to what He offers.
You are in a great place. God has worked in your life such that you want to be holy and without blame. Now He will come and show you how.
I'll be praying for you. Grace and peace.

Walking in the Spirit is standing in Truth.

God wants to give of Himself and He wants you to see Him as He has declared Himself to be Love, Light and Life, that is the Truth.

I had this question a while back, and my friend who is discipling me gave me the best, most direct, straight from the Bible answer- it's found in the last few verses of Galatians 5. I suggest reading the whole chapter for context. But to walk in the spirit means to do those things listed, and these are fruits the Spirit produces in our lives.

Galatians 5:22-25 ESV
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

The way to walk in the Spirit is by expressing aspects of God's character through obeying His law, which is why the Spirit has the role of leading us to obey it (Ezekiel 36:26-27), why Paul contrasted those who walk in the Spirit with those who have minds set on the flesh who are enemies of God who refuse to submit to it (Romans 8:4-7), and why everything listed as works of the flesh that are against the Spirit are also against God's law while all of the fruits of the Spirit are aspects of God's character that are in accordance with it (Galatians 5:19-21).

by growing in grace & in knowledge of our lord & savior, Jesus Christ. there are lot's of people who try to good, even atheists do that, but they get nearly no where after years, sometimes decades. that's simply because they didn't try hard enough, & or, they were waiting for something to happen as if it was going to be done for them. students have to read, study & memorize what they need to to get a career job. hey folks, what an idea!!! that's all you have to do is the same thing when learning to walk in the spirit!! da!! make up personal lessons, write comical rhymes to make it fun to be the best in walking in the spirit you possible can be!!!

What’s interesting is you cannot walk in the Spirit and walk in the flesh at the same time.

Every moment you walk in either one or the other.

If we practically apply the lesson of the Israelites, they had to gather and eat the Manna (bread) DAILY. Not gather double for the next day.

Our bread is Jesus and His Word.
We need to be in the Word Daily.
We need to gather with the brethren often.
And love others as ourselves.

God bless and welcome!!

Sorry to hear you are under attacks . the word of God is the go to for you friend .Jesus said in the book of John ...John 6:63(KJV) It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. Walking in spirit would be walking according to the words spoken by God .
