Not one Calvinist has ever been able to explain Jonah.

1. God told Jonah to preach a message of destruction, “yet forty days and Nineveh will be overthrown.”
2. Nineveh believed the message and repented.
3. God saw their repentance and he repented of the destruction that he said he would do unto them and he did it not.
Well ive decided to become a true believer of what Jean Calvin was trying to tell us. 🙂

Im sure jean Calvin would of said this

because they where willing and they heard the message,.they responded because the life was already in those people of nineveh, and so they where able to repent when they heard the message.

As I've worked out jean Calvin also heard from the lord to, Because hes on record for saying Don't question God's authority,.. So he may have had the common sense to say,. When you hear a command then follow.

I.also recall Jean Calvin saying be concerned by God's good intension only.

Seems fitting he would say this ,really, and more fitting he never wrote tulip.

More correctly...explained to your satisfaction. I went to great lengths to explain it. You simply didn't receive it.

Not that I'm a Calvinist though.
Not when you went outside the book of Jonah to explain away the clear and simple reading. I’m not willing to change the words to fit a certain narrative. I’d rather change the narrative to fit the words of scripture.

Which is an argument style of implying I don't and you are on the high moral ground. There is nothing wrong with comparing scripture with scripture.

Didn’t mean to imply that brother. I just meant to say the book of Jonah is pretty straight forward. God didn’t lie, he repented. He changed his mind when Nineveh believed.

I actually think you've got the making to be a true believer of what Jean calvin actually said 🙂.
I earnestly don't care what Calvin said. I think he got many things right and some things wrong. I try to integrate good teaching and practices wherever I find them, and learn from the mistakes of others so I don't repeat them.

John Calvin Quotes. We should ask God to increase our hope when it is small, awaken it when it is dormant, confirm it when it is wavering, strengthen it when it is weak, and raise it up when it is overthrown. There is not one blade of grass, there is no color in this world that is not intended to make us rejoice.

I don't really want to rehash the discussion, but I did share an alternative explanation. And I wasn't offended. We've had enough discussions for me to know you are principled, but the way we contend for the faith is important as well.

John Calvin Quotes. "We should ask God to increase our hope when it is small, awaken it when it is dormant, confirm it when it is wavering, strengthen it when it is weak, and raise it up when it is overthrown."

That seems to be praying against God's will, if you are an exhaustive divine determinist.

"There is not one blade of grass, there is no color in this world that is not intended to make us rejoice. It sounds like Jean Calvin believed God's intentions can be thwarted.
