This is pointless, because you are certain in your belief the "gifts" died......
hi shroom:
you mean a translation that works for your charismaticism?
though i walk on two legs and fly as an angel and have not love, i'm just a wooden spoon on a pot.
though i had a million dollars and travelled the world and had not love i'm a hobo.
though i speak with the languages of men and of angels and have not love i am become as sounding brass or a tinkling cymbal.
a) did paul speak angelic languages?
The bible doesn't say. But it does say he spoke in tongues more than all the corinthians.
b) what language do angels speak when they interact with men?
The language of the men they're talking to.
c) did paul become a gong?
d) did paul become a tinkling cymbal?
Do you understand similes and metaphors? But no, I doubt he did. He stood for God and walked in love.
tongues:
1) that thing in your mouth that moves and around and licks your lips and helps form sounds
2) languages
is paul talking about languages, shroomster?
Why yes, zone, he is. Languages of men or angels.
did they speak languages at Pentecost?
or unintelligable noises?
The apostles spoke languages unknown to them. People present at Pentecost understood them. That is not promised when a person speaks in tongues. Read 1 Cor 14. Also, note what they were speaking, "the wonderful works of God". In another place, tongues were "magnifying God", and Paul said you're "giving thanks well". They were not witnessing.
The ones listed in 1 Cor 12:7-10. Tongues are not a gift. They are a manifestation of the gift of holy spirit. If you have acted on Romans 10:9, you have the gift of holy spirit, and the ability to operate the manifestations of that gift. Whether you know it or not..... Most don't. You, for instance.
even if the gifts they had at corinth or Acts where extant in your church today, they are not what you say they are.
They are exactly what the bible says they are. Manifestations of the gift of holy spirit. And since God still gives holy spirit to those who act on Romans 10:9, the manifestations are part of the deal.
you would be miraculously speaking one of these languages:
because each one was hearing them speak in his own language.
7And they were amazed and astonished, saying, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans?
8And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language?
9Parthians and Medes and Elamites and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,
10Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome,
11both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians—we hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God.”
Not at all. Other men present understanding what is said in a tongue is not guaranteed. It is not the norm. But on that day, it certainly underscored that the apostles had received
something. Nobody could deny it. And note that in 1 Cor 14, Paul says that we are NOT to speak in tongues in the church unless it's specifically interpreted. Who interpreted on the day of pentecost, when the gift of holy spirit was first available? Nobody. That people understood was a miracle.
Most people do not know what tongues is, or what it is for. It is not a witnessing tool. The primary use of tongues is for you personally. It builds you up spiritually. It's between you and God, between your holy spirit (the gift that God gave you) and God.
...going to bed early tonight. I'm wiped out. You behave now, heah?
