Been there. Done that.

That's one of my go-to lunches at w*rk. We have fish patties and we have pancakes, so sometimes I get an order of pancakes and three fish patties and make me some fish tacos.

And, even after COVID started, you can still get pancakes all day long so you could make some fish tacos at McDonald's at 9:00 p.m. if you wanted.

Caveat: it's only good when the oil is fresh.
But why would you ruin a perfectly good pancake with fish?

I quit making buttermilk pancakes altogether....it's just a pale comparison to sourdough pancakes. I use sourdough starter to make them. The part that usually gets discarded if you aren't making bread. Just add eggs, flour, sugar, oil/butter and salt. Vanilla if you like too. Very much better than buttermilk.

I also like Belgian waffles made with the malted flour.

All of course with maple syrup....sometimes with blueberries.

You could fold a pancake in half and put anything in there. Whatever you want. Make a peanut butter taco.

Our pancakes are more like French crepes. In my family we use cinnamon in the batter. As for waffles... there should be five hearts (Swedish ones have four hearts) and they could be crispy (made with sour cream) or, as I prefer them, soft, but never hard (too much flour), they should be made with (sour) buttermilk, served with sour cream and strawberry jam, butter and brown cheese or just butter and sugar. And in the batter there should be no cinnamon but cardamon. As for the rising, we never use self rising flour, but add baking powder or, as my grandmother preferred and that suits with the sour milk, baking soda. The rest of the recipes will remain a secret.
Oh. One region in Norway eats hot dog waffles. For the rest of us that is sacrilege. They don't use cinnamon in the batter there, I gather.

Do you think there's someone out there that enjoys putting nacho cheese on pancakes? My mind is starting to think of horrible combinations with pancakes and I fear I'll never recover from this.

Also, does anyone else like homemade cornbread waffles? One of my favorite things to do with the waffle iron. Just some butter on top, no syrup. Delicious.

But getting the cast iron waffle iron is the "must have" thing to make these with.

Then the temperature of the seasoned cast iron has a very small window or ELSE! Gas burner has to be just right....

And you have to be ready to make a LOT when you do it because they keep coming and don't stop when you get going.

Here is the last homemade cornbread waffle that I made. Warm and yummy.

Speaking of hashbrowns, I've been meaning to get around to making a hashbrown waffle. Too many things I want to do in the kitchen and not enough time! It's on my list though.

I have two cast iron ones from my great grandma... But nowadays we buy them electrical. It is quite common to have a double one, because they tend to be eaten faster than they are cooked. 1717184233100.png

Nothing is good with nacho cheese on it. Soybean oil and flavorings. Dreadful stuff.

Pancakes over waffles. I do like waffles, but only if they're soft.
I also find waffles less filling. So I get hungry much sooner after eating them.
But pancakes are kind of heavy to me. But I'd still prefer them.
Also I find pancakes easier to eat since most waffles are hard. And how difficult something is to eat affects how much I like something. Except steak. Steak is just good and worth it.
But that may be part of the reason pizza is my favorite, easy to eat haha.

Ok, just looking at that picture is causing my scale to go up, but man, am I ever thinking it would be worth it!!! :LOL:

Waffles because they hold the syrup and are crunchy. And they go great with fried chicken. I've had this before at a place called Bruxie. It was so good.
