Does the Holy Spirit give out gifts like this today?... 1 Cor 12
But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
1Co 12:8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
1Co 12:9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
1Co 12:10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
1Co 12:11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

If I look at these gifts, it pretty much covers all the fields of miricles the Holy Spirit did when He was Jesus, the Son of God here with us on the planet that NEEDS these miricles... What an awesome God this Jesus Christ is.
no. those gifts ceased. THEY WERE ALL PARTIAL!! when we are men we put away childish partial things - we HAVE THE BIBLE!

that letter is an Historical letter in an Historical context, that has NOTHING to do with us.
those gifts were given for the founding of the church.

it is simply beyond me how this has been so corrupted.

Acts 2
The Coming of the Holy Spirit
1When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. 2And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and resteda on each one of them. 4And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.

5Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. 6And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one was hearing them speak in his own language. 7And they were amazed and astonished, saying, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? 8And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language? 9Parthians and Medes and Elamites and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, 11both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians—we hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God.” 12And all were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?” 13But others mocking said, “They are filled with new wine.”

Peter’s Sermon at Pentecost
14But Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them: “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words. 15For these people are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day.b 16But this is what was uttered through the prophet Joel:

17 “‘And in the last days it shall be, God declares,
that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh,
and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
and your young men shall see visions,
and your old men shall dream dreams;
18 even on my male servantsc and female servants
in those days I will pour out my Spirit, and they shall prophesy.
19 And I will show wonders in the heavens above
and signs on the earth below,
blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke;
20 the sun shall be turned to darkness
and the moon to blood,
before the day of the Lord comes, the great and magnificent day.
21 And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.’

this is already FULFILLED.

it is in the Historical record of scripture.
we read about it.

same with the letter to those at Corinth: HISTORICAL.

we read about it.

SCRIPTURE AND HOLY SPIRIT ARE WHAT WE HAVE TODAY.

this has been true for the life of the church since John died.
ANYONE can do 1 days research and see NO ONE HAS EVER LOOKED FOR THE FOUNDATIONAL GIFTS until this century.

a NEW lying doctrine says that in fact the above passage refers to the "end-times" when there will be a great outpouring of those same gifts.

SCRIPTURE DOES NOT ANYWHERE EVER TEACH THAT.

it teaches apostasy, doctrines of devils, no sound doctrine, false prophets, lying signs and wonders, and delusion. it warns us of EXACTLY what is happening.

honestly, i do not know how this is not SEEN!

CORINTHIANS IS HISTORICAL!!!!

Zone in Acts 8 the people of Samaria did not get the Spirit, so the penticost is not that day Joel prophecied, becasue it still has to come...Did God miss Samaria, because it says... Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:
Act 8:16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them....

Nope on penticost the Spirit was pured out on the people in the room only 120 people...
And Zone today is part of the LAST DAYS! The times of God and the Appearances of Jesus is the times! Another vry easily but LOTS of verses discussion to determine the TIMES God speaks about... The last days only STARTED in that room, and it ENDS WHEN JESUS RETURNS, Form that day of PENTICOST, until JESUS returns, it is the LAST DAYS!

Absolutely!!!! :)

I was healed last May, which brought me back to God in a big way. During that same week that I was traveling a lot of signs were put forward to me in the form of music and lightning.

I was in a very stressful situation recently, but the HS kept me calm and happy.

I've felt the power of the Holy Spirit at work in lots of situations very obvious to me, one of many was a car crash last year - I felt the HS protecting me as a car collided with mine. There was a woman who I can only describe as equivalent to an angel as she did everything for me, that was not expected. It was like God put her there for me. She stayed with me for hours.

I also get a weird feeling everytime I pray. My body completely turns goose-bumpy everytime (and I do live in the heat of Arizona!).

P.S. I forgot to add that the HS puts words into my head a lot when I'm talking to certain people. Words just come out my mouth that were inspired by the HS. The HS has worked through me several times.

Your talking a different time and for a different reason...not only were the works foretold, they were
fulfilled. To show Him as Messiah. In other words it wasnt the intent of your scriptures quoted to say because they saw miracles they believed, but that they saw the miracles that scriptures foretold fulfilled and that they believed He was the Messiah. He showed Thomas He had a resurrected body and wasnt an apparition.
Jesus said blessed are those who will not see and believe. And Peter followed up in:

1 Peter 1:7-9
King James Version (KJV)
7That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

8Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:

9Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.

Its the power of God that makes us become children of God, not a wimpy miracle.
Jesus was continually dealing with unbelief in men's heart and He was God manifest in the flesh dwelling among men. What was it that made the disciples believe that He was the Son of God? What made the centurion and the others with him believe, at the cross, that surely He was the Son of God (Mt 27:54)?

Other than the work of the cross which was the greatest work that God has done for man through His Son in providing eternal redemption and the forgiveness of sins through the blood of Christ, what other works was He referring to in (Jn 14:11,12)...

11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake. 12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do ; because I go unto my Father.

Here Jesus seems to be dealing with unbelief and is encouraging them to believe Him for the very works that He did that came from the Father. He had not been crucified yet, so what were those works that they were to be convinced by and to believe that He was the Son of God? How many of us since the inception of the church and the beginning of the gospel of Christ have believed the gospel without having been persuaded or convinced by the work of God in the life of another that revealed the power of God being manifest in some way? We can't rule out any work of God that is used to draw and turn the hearts of men and women to Christ. How many in the desperation of life have asked God to show them that He is real because of the unbelief in their heart, yet God answered their unbelief with a supernatural faith that went beyond understanding?

I am not taking any power of salvation away from the message of the gospel, but God knows what is in the heart of man, the hardness, the skepticism, the blindness, the doubt, the fear and the evil of unbelief and He knows what it's going to take to break up the soil of that heart to get the sinner to consider the Son. I see that whatever work God does to convince those in unbelief, even if it took a supernatural miracle of grace manifested to the hardness and blindness of their hearts, that work would qualify as part of the glorious gospel and be justified as the goodness and mercy of God leading them to repentance from their evil heart of unbelief. God's ways are not our ways, but perhaps through grace and getting to known Him through His word, His work and through His Spirit, His ways will become our ways and we will do the works of Him.

Absolutely brother. The Holy Spirit is continually at work because the Holy Spirit is God. It is a natural attribute of a Creator to create. There are (3) types of miracles by general classification:

1) Transcendent miracles- Miracles that transcend and/or not limited by the laws of physics.
2) Transformational miracles- A miracle that doesn't violate the laws of physics but are something that you would never expect to happen.
3) Sustaining miracles- God upholding all things for His glory, and for the benefit of life.

All of these various miracles are important, and do happen, but are manifested in different capacities. The Holy Spirit is not limited to any specific thing, but does execute a specific role in the salvation of a believer. All of us Christians are extremely different and complex. The Holy Spirit illuminates the believer regarding what He hears from the Father, and what should be known of Him. The Holy Spirit doesn't give everyone the same mode of understanding- but each Christian gets understanding, nonetheless. Everyone is given talents, both believers and non-believers. However, only Gods children are bestowed with spiritual gifts alongside their indwelt talents. The Holy Spirit has a powerful role in the cosmos (Heaven + Earth) and is far too often overlooked.
i like this. thanks DW

I think sustain miracles are the most wonderful because they are continous and can seen always at work in the world :)

same with the letter to those at Corinth: HISTORICAL. but history teaches us and can is often repeated

we read about it.

SCRIPTURE AND HOLY SPIRIT ARE WHAT WE HAVE TODAY. yes and the Holy Spirit can still give His gifts and manifest in the lives of believers

this has been true for the life of the church since John died. debatable
ANYONE can do 1 days research and see NO ONE HAS EVER LOOKED FOR THE FOUNDATIONAL GIFTS until this century. mmm well there were all those people the church killed and label as "heretics" and the wtich hunts and stuff, so that might cause one to question if the historical church is GOD's church. especially when you read that Jesus told His disciples this: 9 “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake.

something happened to Christianity when it changed from the religion of the oppressed to the religion of the oppressors. White horsemen perhaps?

a NEW lying doctrine says that in fact the above passage refers to the "end-times" when there will be a great outpouring of those same gifts.

well it is the end times since Jesus has not returned so....the gifts have always been present in history, it is the offices of apostle and priophet, etc that I question.

SCRIPTURE DOES NOT ANYWHERE EVER TEACH THAT.

where does it teach that they ever stop? yes the Bible is complete but GOD"S plan for this world, IS NOT. IT is like saying that since we have the prophecy we have no need of the PROPHET. this world so often likes to separate the message from not only the messenger but also the one who sent him. I have been guilty of it myself. Often people say it is not important WHO preaches the gospel that it is preached, but that is not true. the Preacher is important. Just as in the OT the character of the prophet was important. We look at Moses and how he was allowed priviledges that his sister envied and was punished by being struck with leprosy for questioning why Moses was allowed to draw near to God and not others. The Bible is a book that points to GOD. that reveals God's laws and prophecies to the world. It is a rule book, it is a blessed book of Promise but it is no more God then a letter from a loved one the loved one themselves. though I read it every day, I personally yearn for a relationship with GOD, not the Bible. I seek to pray and speak with GOD and learn His ways and have Him write His commandments in my heart so that memorization of laws and rules are not needed but blessed assurance that I walk in Him and have faith in HIM and HIS promise of salvation and His testimony of my adoption.

which gifts do you think have stopped?

People say there are Gifts, there are Offices, there are Manifestations and we should not classify them all together.

Matthew 24
The Signs of the Times and the End of the Age

3 Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”
4 And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. 6 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all[a]these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.

9 “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. 10 And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. 11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. 12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.

The Great Tribulation

15 “Therefore when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’[c] spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (whoever reads, let him understand), 16 “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17 Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house. 18 And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes. 19 But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! 20 And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath. 21 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. 22 And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened.

23 “Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There!’ do not believe it. 24 For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 25 See, I have told you beforehand.
26 “Therefore if they say to you, ‘Look, He is in the desert!’ do not go out; or ‘Look, He is in the inner rooms!’ do not believe it. 27 For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 28 For wherever the carcass is, there the eagles will be gathered together.

The Coming of the Son of Man

29 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

I know you like to quote this verse but when I read it, it means something totally different....

1 Corinthians 13
8 Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.
11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.
13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

I believe prophecies, tongues, knowledge are all needed until the young Christian is mature
and for now we still see in a mirror, dimly but eventually if we continue to follow the upward call of God we will see God face to face and know in full as we are now know by God in full. For even Paul yet writes he is NOT perfect yet he says those who are MATURE think as he does. Therefore PERFECT means MORE then just maturity and just the completion of the Bible.

Philippians 3:13-15
New King James Version (NKJV)
13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
15 Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you
.

I believe everyone is given prophecies from God telling them what He wants them to do in the future and how to react to situation in their life so that His name might be glorified and in a manner that would make Him proud and is in accordance to His laws, speak in tongues when they pray alone, and are given words of knowledge in their hearts, God writing the commandments in their hearts but this is a PRIVATE thing not a flashy fake show you see on TV or the internet, I think that is what is meant by this passage. it is for edifying a PERSONAL walk with God not a communal one for it makes the analogy of being a child and us knowing in part. We only understand part of God's plan though He has revealed the outline. He still is needed to reveal the details how we as individuals can walk in the good works He has saved us for. He does this for each child individually if we take the time to go to Him in prayer and read faithfully His Words to us and listen and watch for His guidance and will.

God speaks in a still small voice though His angels often sound like Hurricanes.

Ezekiel 1

4 Then I looked, and behold, a whirlwind was coming out of the north, a great cloud with raging fire engulfing itself; and brightness was all around it and radiating out of its midst like the color of amber, out of the midst of the fire.

24 When they went, I heard the noise of their wings, like the noise of many waters, like the voice of the Almighty, a tumult like the noise of an army; and when they stood still, they let down their wings. 25 A voice came from above the firmament that was over their heads

Ezekiel 2

So when I saw it, I fell on my face, and I heard a voice of One speaking.
1 And He said to me, “Son of man, stand on your feet, and I will speak to you.” 2 Then the Spirit entered me when He spoke to me, and set me on my feet; and I heard Him who spoke to me

I think I'm going to go pray now, my heart feels troubled.....

I havnt said God doesnt use powerful acts of grace to save men. Of coarse He does. The bible says He does. Not only to draw us and save us but to bring us all the way to glory.

What i was saying is this. It doesnt take visible miracles to do this. And those who seek them, or anything
external are in the postion to be deceived. Jesus made that clear to those who seek after a sign.
Go to India. Or for that matter go to random churches. If that floats yur boat.

The works Jesus was taking about were the foretold ones as He was always saying...so the scriptures be fulfilled. Which is said in the gospels about 40 times. He also said to some unbelievers that they were only
there for the fish and the bread. Miracles didnt cause faith. The works showed Him to be the Messiah.

The works of the Holy Spirit have not ceased. I believe it is a doctrine from those who are weak in the faith. They may pretend to be the strong but no doubt they are the weak. There is no verse in the Bible that states that the works of the Holy Spirit in their entirety have ceased. I don't believe that 1 Corinthians 13 is a 'fill in the blank' chapter for "that which is perfect". As hard as they try it is impossible to shove the word 'Bible' into the verse that speaks about when some works will cease. It's not fill in the blank for "that which is perfect". James 1:17 "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." Every gift from the Father is good and perfect, even the gifts of the Spirit. Of course the Bible is perfect in it's original form. But so is every gift that is from the Father. We know that God is perfect. We know that His gifts are perfect. I don't see where one can say that the works of the Holy Spirit have ceased based on their assumption of what is perfect in 1 Corinthians 13.

i'm going out jonathan, but i'll address this later.
i'm going to show when pentecostalism started.

then you can explain the enormous gap between the cessation of the foundational gifts (1st century) to present.

because you most assuredly can not prove continuation throughout history - so the ONLY thing you can hope to show us is a RESTORATION of those foundational gifts.
where they prophesied to come back, and solid legitimate cases that christians know by name and accept their authority as apostles or prophets. thanks.

Bible history is against you Zone. Did God forget His promises during the Babylonian or Assyrian captivity of the Jews? Didn't God use John the Baptist as a prophet even after hundreds of years of silence? Did God forget His promises when the Jews were not even a nation? Jesus was the fulfillment of prophecy even after hundreds of years. There is Biblical proof that God's promises last over hundreds of years, even when people like you don't believe. The promise of God through Joel is still available to His children. We are still in the last days.

3?

1?

Is the holy spirit at work this very day?
Does he perform miracles in these modern times?
What do you believe?
The Holy Spirit, God, is always at work. He knows our every thought. He always is guiding us (if only we’d follow) and providing for us.
