Hey Everyone,

The past several weeks, I've had a hard time finding a specific kind of lunch ham I prefer. Sure, they have it in almost any other animal variety (smoked or roasted chicken, beef, and about 5 variations of turkey,) but NO HAM. Now that I've found this certain one, I hate trying other kinds because: 1. lunch meat is expensive; 2. other brands are usually too greasy/knotty (perhaps even a bit naughty) for my particular tastes.

And seeing as the only way I can connive myself into eating a salad is by shredding a little ham into it, I am getting desperate (who am I kidding -- most of my appetite is actually rejoicing at having an excuse to not eat salads.)

I was beginning to think maybe there was another instance like in the Bible when Jesus had to command a legion of demons into a herd of pigs, who then promptly ran themselves into the lake (Mark 5:1-20.)

I tried to console myself by saying it's better to go without than be faced with a demon-possessed, bovine lunch -- but a friend told me there was apparently a problem with a listeria outbreak.

And now I can't even make myself a protein shake because... the particular brand of non-dairy milk I prefer is also out. BEH!!!

(In reality, I can find ways to compromise with such first-world problems just fine. But every now and then, it's fun to complain!)

How about all of you?

* What preferred items do you have a hard time finding?

* What means do you have to go to in order to get them? (Online ordering, going to a faraway store, special ordering, etc.?)

* Do you simply substitute something else for what you can't find? How did that go?

* Did you find a new favorite, or did it only make you more determined to find what you wanted in the first place?

Oy, reminds me of some pig farmers we had here who fed their murder victims to them.
Yes, gross for sure, and so happy to know I was not consuming pig at that time. Not that
I normally do, though bacon does make it onto my plate from time to time...

Goodness gracious!!!

I've read some grizzly stories about people feeding their victims to dogs, alligators, etc.

While I know we can never really know what's in our food... Stories like this have me about half a step away from turning vegetarian.

(If only @RodB651's burgers weren't so dang good...)

Not being able to find something is the story of my life!

I frequent the local salvage grocery store, but I don't go there to save money. I go there to find neat stuff I can't find at the local regular grocery store.

If I do find something I like, I buy every single item they have of that product. I know I will probably never see it again.

I have never seen a pig running around in a grocery store. 1722295836347.png I have noticed that the price of bacon has gotten quite high but you can still get a butt or shoulder for price that hasn't changed much. Pork ribs cost way more too...

One of my little sisters recently retired after a lifetime of raising pigs for market. I'm pretty sure she never fed any of her murder victims to her pigs.

Well, to be fair , the original post never said what condition the lacking pigs would be in.

I must agree that running pigs would not have suited my purpose.

Rather, I was looking for ones that had been smoked, sliced, and Saran-wrapped -- for my convenience (which is much easier than trying to wrangle them down myself.)

Also to be fair , we couldn't help but notice that you said you were "pretty sure" your sister hadn't fed any of her murder victims to the pigs.

1. So apparently, there WERE victims. o_O

2. "Pretty sure" isn't "100% sure," so that leaves an awfully long runway for doubt.

I don't know if these pigs are trying take off from this runway or just made a landing, but if I had to bet between them and the jet behind them...

Well.

At least I might at least wind up with a killer ham sandwich.

(Sorry, piggies.) 🐷

At least we're not talking about... Eggplants. :D:D:D
Yeah.

I'm in some financial Discord chats that are 99.99% male.

They use the eggplant emoji a lot in reaction to some of the things that are said...

So if YOU start using an eggplant in any of your posts -- I'll have to kick you out of this thread myself!:ROFL::ROFL:

I have a praise report about this subject.
Near Easter, the supermarket had an ad for spiral hams at $1/#. I can't buy soup bones at that price anymore.

Unfortunately, they were out of stock then, so I got a rain check.
I kept checking back and the meat dept manager/ head butcher, told me that it is a seasonal item that they only get from the warehouse twice/ year.

I decided to wait and guess what?
Saw 3 hams earlier last week.
I asked the two new guys.
They didn't want to get in trouble or didn't know how to reprice the hams, so they asked me to come back Sunday when the boss was back..
I needed some meat and didn't wait since Easter for nothing, so I hid those piggies way back in the cooler under the shelf and asked the Lord to save those for me until I can get them.
He kindly did.
When I returned Sunday, they were still there and I pulled them out to hand to the manager along with the rain check.
He knew I appreciated him and took care of it right away.

I went to the front of the store and checked out. To my surprise the total price was $12.35 !
😃
He charged me just .50¢ per pound!
Wow! What a blessing!
3 Hams for 12 bucks and change.
Ain't God Good?

Salted fat has quadrupled in price here.

I think we should look up our nearby farmers. Maybe it'll be possible to lock in a hoof price and process them for ourselves.
The Chinese own the largest pig farm in America and bill Gates bought up most of the farms. They might be planning to do something with all that land. All I've heard so far is crickets.

Salted pork fat has quadrupled and more in price here. It's nothing more than pig skin/ fat packed in salt.

You didn't know that I just bought those yesterday and you went and posted this today! That's no coincidence.
If you lived nearby, I'd give you one.
If you talk to the meat manager and pray, maybe you'll get one soon. I was thinking that I'd have to wait until Christmas.

That was one of the Lord's special hugs.

I'll pray for you to get as much as you can fit in your freezer right now.
May you have the same answer soon by our Father's kind generosity.

I used to work on a farm part time, visiting my ex girlfriend. They raised the best fed pigs in Pennsylvania. The parents traditionally raised beef, a prize dairy cow or two and pigs.
The older sister was a public health nurse who was into conspiracy theories that made even me blush for embarrassment for her. She thought that vampire bats lived in PA and a couple mosquito bites on the neck of a child warranted the series of rabies shots for the children and stuff like that.

After generations of her grandparents and her parents and her brother and sister drinking raw milk with no problems, she came up with a bright idea. She read an article about brucellosis. She cared less that I had a degree in agriculture, she decided that from then on, the entire family was no longer to drink their milk, even though the cows were healthy.

We'd wash our hands, the udder and wipe it with an iodine solution each milking 2X day. Did not matter, she wore the blue jeans in the family and had the rank of Col. nurse . That special Holstein was to continue to be milked at 5AM and 5 PM every day with no vacations or dry periods from then until the Lord's return.
Other than what her younger sister snuck to me, all that valuable prized Holstein milk went to the pigs.

Do you know, that not one of those pigs complained.
They all agreed with Nurse Coleen.
🐷🐖🐷🐷🐖
As far as we know, they never got bad milk. Thanks Colleen. Oink- Oink.
My Favorite meal Mom would make was Pigs in a Blanket.

Oops! Wrong recipe!
It was probably something like this.
