When Does the Day Cross Into Night -- Or the Night Cross Into Day?

Hey Everyone,

I find this question fascinating.

Several years ago when I started working nights, Lynx was helping me adjust by leaving me voice texts. Because I was the only one working in my department (which is one of the things I loved about it -- no one telling me what to do or how to do it!) I rarely conversed with other people. I would say hi or have quick chats with others passing through from various departments, but otherwise I was the Lone Ranger from night 'til dawn. Checking his messages on my break (due to us living in very different time zones) and leaving answers made me feel like I still had a human anchor, which really helped me form a new routine.

One of the things I asked Lynx was when he thought night crossed over into day. With me being a natural morning person, going in at 10 PM was pretty rough at first. But over time, my system started to "see" 2 AM as being "morning," and I could feel myself starting to kick in.

It was really odd because there were no other clues except my internal mechanisms. I was inside all night, the lights didn't change, nor did the temperature -- there wasn't even any kind of discernible staff or shift change. Nothing "told" my biological clock that something was shifting -- except God.

These days, my internal clock starts to "shift" between 3 and 4 AM. If I wake up at 3:30 AM, it still feels like night (which my system interprets as, "Time to wind down,") but right around 4 AM, I can feel my inner workings start to "recognize" "day", which it then interprets as, "Time to wind up and GO!"

I don't know why, but for me, "Night" changes into "Day" precisely in between two specific hours on the clock.

I often think about how God "called the dark 'Night' and the light 'Day'" at Creation -- and I wonder how that got translated into the biologies of people who are early birds vs. night owls.

What about the rest of you?

* How do you, or how does your body determine the shift/difference between night and day?

* Do you go by a specific time, feeling, routine, or even? (Having dinner, watching TV to a certain hour, etc.)

* Do you feel a drastic change in energy, motivation, mood, etc. when the "shift" (between day to night or night to day) changes?)


I am always interested in how differently people can be made, and how we all react uniquely to the things set in God's creation.

A more important question than all those is... When does it stop being spooky outside and start being just early morning?

10pm - Spooky.
5am - Early.
12 midnight - Spooky.
4am - Early.
2am - ??
3am - ???
1am - ????

Where does it cross the line from "spooky night time" to "dark early morning" and why does it cross at that time?

Oh well. We should get some input soon. It's morning again.

But how long until it's actually morning? When people start chiming in on this thread? o_O

the old answer would be night crosses into day at dawn & day crosses into night at dusk. or the time answer: 12:00 a.m. & 12:00 p.m. i don't pay any attention to time constraints. in summer, i naturally wake up anywhere from 4:30 to 6:00. winter, it's a bit later for waking up. i am regimented but it's automatic. in other words, i don't rush this system, it's just relaxing. i nap sometimes when i sit to watch t.v. but i'm a work-a-holic.
