Hey Everyone,

@Godsgirl1983 reminded me just how fun these "controversial" threads can be!

Are you tired or need a break from all the "typical" arguments swirling all around you? Are you longing for a "higher level" topic that goes beyond just the "normal" boundaries of ridiculousness? Do you long to sink your time and effort into something that REALLY counts?

Well, do we ever have the thread for you! Forget all those "common" controversies for a just minute -- and come join in on yet another ludicrous discussion that's guaranteed to go (pea)nuts!

Since a past thread has already questioned the sanctity of toast, let's bump it up a notch to peanut butter AND jelly!

All we need now is for people to start arguments for, against, and about the following topics:

1. Does peanut butter and jelly need to be put on something, or can it be eaten alone (in a bowl?! With a spoon?) I may or may not have just outed myself here...

2. What kind of bread goes best with peanut butter and jelly? What about pitas, tortilla wraps, naan, cookies...?

3. What kind of peanut butter is acceptable? (And what kinds are heathen?)

4. What kinds of jelly is acceptable? Jam or preserves? And what kinds/flavors will send you straight to the naughty chair!!!) Mint. :D

5. Do you make a PB & J with or without crusts?

6. Do you add other toppings? What about strange, abnormal, or just plain stupid things -- like pickles?!:ROFL:

5. Are Crustables the ULTIMATE PB& J sandwich?

There will be a poll covering some PB & J basics... But since poll answers are always limited, be sure to come back to argue as passionately as possible about your position, because a controversy is only a controversy when there are strong opposing opinions!!

The poll will be multiple choice and you'll be able to see people's answers -- which will make it all the easier to argue as to why YOUR opinion is the one that REALLY counts! :D

TORTILLAS! FOR A PB&J!
SEOULSEARCH!
Can't you just leave the taco talk in its own thread?
:mad::LOL::p
Now now, Godsgirl, we couldn't get a good controversy going if we left all the food alone and not touching each other! :p

I mean seriously.

Which one looks more controversial???

THIS (shoot, this dinner is practically wearing a bow tie!)

So, now you want to distract from the OP about peanut butter and jelly and start debating if food should be touching?
*GG growls through gritted teeth* 4 posts in and it's already starting

you know, they do make plates for children er, um, for persons who don't like their food touching.

Look lady, are you making fun of my dinner plate???

I hope not, because who could resist unicorns?

What?!

Not only does it keep my food from touching, it also helps with portion control.

Why is this thread limited to PEANUT butter?
Now you're not being inclusive of ALL!!!
I DEMAND YOU TO INCLUDE ALMOND BUTTER; SUN BUTTER; CASHEW BUTTER; AND ALL KINDS OF ALTERNATIVE BUTTER SPREADS! THEY MUST BE REPRESENTED!
*starts crying hysterically*
THE *sob* ALTERNATIVE ONES *sob sob* MUST BE REP*sob*RE*sob sob*SENTED *boo hoo hoo*

(now I know she'll take me seriously because I used all caps to yell and told her through my overly emotional crying how I really feel about the subject)

As much I want to say I just can't support your alternative lunch-style (as opposed to lifestyle,) considering that some people are deathly allergic to peanuts...

I guess I'm going to have to make like a politician or large corporation and pander to the liberals. :cautious:

Hopefully this will be enough token acknowledgement to satisfy your activism (and secure your vote!)

Funny thing, I saw the little cap on that nut in the "Hazelnut" category -- and automatically assumed it was an acorn. Then I was thinking, "Oh great, now PETA is going to get involved because they will say our consumption of acorn butter will ruin the natural habitat of squirrels, starving them into extinction for the sake of our own lunches..."

Alas, the never-ending spiral when we who have NOTHING but the people's BEST INTERESTS start catering to "special interest groups." :cautious::giggle::LOL:

I don't venture over here often, but PB & J is an all around good sandwich.

I prefer strawberry jam, but grape will do!

Didn't you know the Singles Forum is trying to take over the world?

One forum section at a time!

(Seriously, I just wanted to try to find a way to give people who might feel uncomfortable posting in Singles another option, and right now, Miscellaneous seems to occupied by politics.)

I don't meant to pick on you @RodB651, but it wouldn't be a controversial thread if some people weren't getting stoned for their choices... So I have no choice but to pick on you.

CREAMY PEANUT BUTTER??

Really, Rod, really?!

I'm not sure we can be friends anymore.

Creamy peanut butter is half a step away from paying taxes! :sneaky:

I don't actually eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches nowadays, but if I did my peanut butter of choice would be Skippy Crunchy with Raspberry jam on either whole wheat or wheat berry bread, with the crust on, of course. Everybody knows that the crust is the best part of bread. If I had boysenberry jam I could live with that, too.

Oh man.

I do like the infamous Jif but Skippy is good too. Crunchy is the way to go. Only the toughest of the tough can handle raspberry jam (most run at the first mention of seeds.) Wheat berry bread sounds amazing.

You had me agreeing with everything -- right up until the part where you said, "Everybody knows the crust is the part of the bread." o_O

No, no, no. We all know the passage, "Cast all your crusts on Him, because He cares for you." (1 Peter 5:7)

God, in His wisdom, knows that crusts are evil, and obviously, He is the only one strong enough to be able to carry them for us!

I forgot the part where I say it has to be on whole wheat bread with the crust.

Oh it has to be creamy. If I have to pay .01 tax to get creamy, I'll growl and give an angry look, but pay the .01 🙃

You were correct, the graphic used was actually an acorn. Hazelnuts grow in clusters, enclosed in a frilly husk rather than a cap. The husk splits open when they are ripe. But once husked, they do look a lot like acorns!

I've never had acorn butter, but with a lot of prep you can turn them into a flour and add it to pancakes. Not bad, VERY nutrient-dense!

And apparently (Google to the rescue!) squirrels also eat hazelnuts?

Either way, it sounds like we're depleting wildlife food sources with our nut choices and will most like anger the animal rights brigade. :sneaky:

(For the record, I'm definitely not trying to ADVOCATE for anything that harms animals, I'm just saying... It's impossible to please all groups.)

Which is why this thread is dedicated to offending all of them!:p:geek:
