Many people imagine that the earth is billions of years old. While I do not believe in a very young earth, I can see no way that the earth can be as old as science claims it to be. My reasons are as follows:
1. Erosion. If the earth was so old, most of it would be on the sea floor. Erosion happens continually.
2. Wave action. The coastline is constantly battered by waves. Cliffs are cut away by waves and collapse into the sea. One of Victoria's rock formations, a tourist attraction, was washed away not so.
3. Oil and gas. There are still vast reserves of oil and gas underground and undersea. There are something like 12,000 earthquakes a year. Oil supposedly formed over a period of hundreds of millions of year, with the process completed about 65 million years ago. And I'm supposed to believe that the oil and gas remained trapped underground for 65 million years? When oil was seeping out of the ground for who knows how long before it became a vital commodity?
I have other reasons, but a little complex to go into here. And that is before considering God's word.
Why is science desperate to "prove" an ancient earth? It's the only way that they can make a case for evolution. And evolution is required to justify the godless atheism that is the hallmark of modern science.
