These are the kind of people that existing gun laws effect.

The kinds of laws I'm talking about is people who aren't allowed to buy a gun obtaining one illegally, and those using a gun to commit a crime. These crimes need to be punished harshly, one to get them out of society, and two to act as a deterrent.

I think I know what you meant. The 2nd Amendment recognizes my right to own weapons of war. That was the original intent. All of these laws trying to restrict that recognized right need to be removed.

I'm speaking strictly constitutionally. Most recognize the right to bear arms, but few seem to recognize the right to arm bears.

Perhaps by "assault rifle" she means any rifle that you could be charged with assault with a deadly weapon with.
