It seems that the word law is being mixed up... LAW.
In the new testement G3551 nomos occures 197 in the KJV. More then 90% of the time when the word law is uses it is from "nomos".
Nomos = law.
From a primary word νέμω nemō (to parcel out, especially food or grazing to animals); law (through the idea of prescriptive usage), generally (regulation), specifically (of Moses [including the volume]; also of the Gospel), or figuratively (a principle): - law.
Today there are many types of laws. laws of nature, civil, national, social laws, moral laws, and they vary for different people, places and conditions. When i talk about a law the context is important.. This law is important......(which law).....The laws of gravity are important or the laws that tell me not to speed are important or the laws that control the stock market are important..... See how the context makes all the difference.
When you read the bible there are different laws also.
The natural laws were laws that God set in place at creation. They include laws like gravity and health priciples. We need oxygen to survive is a simple law of nature. The laws of diet and health are included in these laws.
The civil laws define the rights and responsibilities of people, groups or organisations in their time as a nation. God gave laws to Israel regarding things like the borders for each tribe and the penalty for crimes.
The ceremonial laws were given to the people in relation to the sanctuary, its services and feasts. God gave the Ceremonial Laws to the Israelites to teach them the way or plan He was going to follow to save mankind from the terrible results of sin
include instructions on regaining right standing with God (e.g., sacrifices and other ceremonies regarding “uncleanness”), remembrances of God’s work in Israel (e.g., feasts and festivals). Psa 77:13 Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary: who is so great a God as our God?
The moral laws are given to define sin. To show us what is right and wrong. laws to show what is moral... a standard of what is right and good.
Understanding which law is being talked about is important. I admit that in some places it is hard to understand which law is being refered to but the context and study of the bible makes things clear.
Knowing that the law of circumcision is no longer valid helps when we look at the big picture.
Roms 3:30.
The moral law is still valid today and we should make every effort to obey it. Not to be saved but because we want to reflect the character of our Loving Saviour.
