It's been a busy day here, so pardon me for being late!

No worries!! Take your time, appreciate your engagement in reading His Word together! I personally want to post early to give you time to compare notes before its too late in the day. Unless someone else wants to post firstšŸ˜… I'll happily continue positing first if you rather I continue to do so, but know if you ever want to, you definitely canšŸ˜€

Abram obeyed God and left his country and kindred.
Abram is promised offspring.
Abram and Sarai are protected by God from the Pharoah.
No matter what situation we are in, we do well to obey God and to trust in His promises and know He is with us in all situations.

Amen!

Chapter 14

Melchizedek, meaning King of Righteousness. Though he has a small part, he's an important figure in the Bible. I am one of those who believes he is one of Christā€™s pre-incarnate appearances.

Did not know the meaning of his name. Nice name!

Chapter 16 is a good lesson on being patient with the Lord's timing in all things (speaking of the situation with Hagar).

Glad you mentioned Hagar, I automatically assumed you meant Sarah. Yes, Hagar was very patient, need to learn from her!

Verse 4 grabs my heart. Is there anything too hard for the Lord? No!

Yes, very powerful!

We know Sodom and Gomorrah is going to be destroyed. At the end of this chapter, the Lord promises Abraham that He will not destroy it if 10 righteous are found there. Clearly, the Lord's mercy is great! But, unfortunately, there wasn't even that many righteous people there.

I thought the same thing too. I was like wow, there wasn't at least 10 people?

Chapter 20

Sarah was just described a short while ago as being well stricken with age. Now, she is taken again by a king. I want to know what supplements and skin care she was using :p

I literally laughed out loudšŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ That comment is so valid because that did cross my mind. I was like kings are still coming after heršŸ˜‚ It must be the good ozone layer, organic food, constant walking, and sunny Vitamin DšŸ˜‚

Likewise! Even though I've read the Bible through several times, it's good to do so in a studious and engaging manner!

This week is a wonky week for me. For example, tomorrow technicians are supposed to be coming to replace all my internet equipment. And I'll be gone the better part of Thursday. So, if I'm way late those days, that's why. Not sure if I'll be early, but hey it could happen lol

Your laughter made me laugh again lol. You make good points with the good ozone layer and better organic foods. I mean, I'm not well stricken with age and no kings are kidnapping me  (probably something I should be thankful for though lol)

I thought I'd be earlier than I usually am today (I haven't even had coffee yet!) in case I lose internet for a while when the technicians are here. I hope by 5pm I have better internet! That's what they told me, anyway.

Chapter 21

The chapter is in connection with Galatians chapter 4.
"...he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise." (verse 23)

"Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.
So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free!" (verse 30 & 31) I personally love the connection Paul makes in Galatians and couldn't help bringing it up.

---

Chapter 22

There are many similarities between the story of Isaac and Christ. Both were the only son, both were miraculous births, both carried their own wood to their sacrifice, the both had a 3 day experience, etc. etc. A symbol of things to come.

I always find it interesting when I read that God promised Abraham that He will multiply his seed as the stars of heaven.
"By measuring the number and luminosity of observable galaxies, astronomers put current estimates of the total stellar population at roughly 70 billion trillion (7 x 1022)." source Sky&Telescope It was also mentioned that as telescopes become more sensitive/advances, more stars will be visible. What an incredible number!

---

Chapter 23

Sarah lives 127 and passes away. Abraham purchases a field from Ephron the Hittite for 400 shekels of silver. Abraham buries Sarah in the cave of Machpelah which is in that field. Later, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Rebecca, and Leah would also be buried there when they passed on.

---

Chapter 24
Abraham was adamant that Isaac not be married to one of the Canaanite daughters.
You'll love this, Verite, the Canaanites worshiped a mother god lol
Asherah, her primary role was mother goddess. I can see you acting like Abraham in this chapter if you were in that situation lol.

---

Chapter 25

So, Abraham is what? Like over a hundred now? And there he goes, getting married again lol.

Esau was born very hairy. That always sticks out to me (please, don't ask lol). God had told Rebecca that Esau would serve Jacob. Later, Esau would become the Edomites.

Esau sells his birthright for a bowl of lentils. I feel sorry for him. I love lentils, but not that much.

---

Chapter 26

Okay, so Esau goes and marries some Hittite women. This really disappointed his parents. Verite, are you ready for this? The Hittites worshiped a mother goddess!
Her name Hannahanna.

---

Chapter 27

Rebecca tells Jacob to deceive his father, who is pretty much blind. Jacob is like, "I can't pull off being Esau, he's super hairy!" Well, we're gonna put some hair on you, boy!
Personally speaking, I was an only child and after reading these Jacob and Esau stories, I'm glad I was an only child lol.

---

Chapter 28

Jacob's Ladder
I like to think it means this: "After the fall the connection between heaven and earth was broken. God plans to restore this connection and dwell with his people. Jacobā€™s vision of the ladder is a visual representation of Godā€™s ongoing intent to bridge the gap between heaven and earth and restore his presence among humanity. Jacob's ladder points forward to the New Testament, where it finds its ultimate fulfillment in the Jesus Christ."

---

Chapter 29
Laban is a real bleep now as well as later, pardon my language.
I feel sympathetic to Leah. It seems God did also. Leah bore Judah. Christ comes through the lineage of Judah. Also, another interesting thing is that in death Jacob is buried with Leah. Rachel is not buried with him.

---

Chapter 30
The rods and flocks.
"God allowed Jacob to prosper, even though Laban was trying to cheat and defraud him. Laban started to see that God was blessing Jacobā€™s flocks and so he changed the terms of the bargain indiscriminately and repeatedly. We need to keep in mind that Jacob wasnā€™t cheating Laban, God was counteracting Labanā€™s cheating on him."

I am not nor is anyone else I stand in being thankful to be forgiven by God himself through Son Jesus for me only
I have no righteousness, neither does anyone else.
Oh, wait a sec, I do and you do too have righteousness. but this righteousness is not ours, it is God Father of Risen Son for us, as a gift to us to appreciate and not use it for any self gain ever, thanking Father and Son Psalm 100:4, 103:12, being given Ezekiel 36:26 in risen Son for me at least

GENESIS CHAPTER 21

v1 The Lord visited Sarah like he said he would in Gen 18:14 - ā€œIs any thing too hard for the Lord? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.ā€

v2 Isaac was born

v4 Isaac was circumcised at 8 days old

v6 ā€œAnd Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me.ā€ Sarah is still laughing about the situations šŸ˜‚

v10 Sarah states why she wants Hagar and her son to leave.

v12 It was interesting to see that Abraham struggle with what Sarah said. God said to listen to Sarah ā€œfor in Isaac shall they seed be calledā€

v13 God tells Abraham that Ishmael will have a nation

v14 Abraham obeyed God and sent Hagar and Ishmael away

v17 ā€œAnd God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said unto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he is.ā€ - interesting that she was spoken to an angel out of heaven and he spoke on Godā€™s behalf

v18 ā€œArise, lift up the lad, and hold him in thine hand; for I will make him a great nation.ā€ - this was the angel of God talking to Hagar. Angels of God can do great things

v20 ā€œā€¦God was with the ladā€¦ā€ - God was with Ishmael

v21 Ishmael grew up in the wilderness and had a wife from Egypt

v26 Abimelech is really a man of integrity like he said in his dream from God when Abraham came before

v27 Abraham is also fair and a man of integrity

v31 Beersheba is where Abraham and Abimelech made a covenant

v34 Wondering why heā€™s traveling through different lands and not in the land that God promised him. I donā€™t recall God telling him to leave to a certain place or a famine occurred

GENESIS CHAPTER 22 NOTES

v1 God tempted Abraham

v2 God tells Abraham to offer his son for a burnt offering

v7 ā€œAnd Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?" - For a father to hear that knowing what he was about to do out of obedience must have been extremely tough. This also reminds me of Jesus Christ being the offering for us. Jesus, Godā€™s son, actually died on earth while Isaac, Abrahamā€™s son, didnā€™t at the time of the offering in this chapter.

v9 ā€œAnd Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.ā€ - ā€œGod will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offeringā€ stands out so much in two ways. 1. God will find a burnt offering to be provided 2. Himself, He Himself, will be the lamb for the burnt offering.

v11 Angel of the Lord is speaking to Abraham out of heaven

v12 Evidence that Abraham feared God

v14 The place where Isaac was going to be offered as an offering to the Lord was named ā€œJehovahjirehā€

v15 Angel of the Lord speaking to Abraham out of heaven

v16 the angel is speaking on behalf of the Lord

v18 ā€œAnd in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.ā€ - Thank you Abraham!šŸ˜€

GENESIS CHAPTER 23 NOTES

v1 Sarah passed away at 127 years old

v6 ā€œHear us, my lordā€¦ā€ - "lord" is used with lower case. The Bible is being consistent in using capitalization when it is referencing God.

v7 "And Abraham stood up, and bowed himself to the people of the land, even to the children of Heth.ā€ - Abraham who is highly favored by God, a prophet of God, bowed to the decedents of Canaan, son of Ham. Canaan was cursed by God for what Ham did to Noah

v11 Ephron a Hittite (children of Heth, Canaanite) gave Abraham land to bury Sarah

v12 Abraham bowed down again to the children of Heth

GENESIS CHAPTER 24 NOTES

v3 Abraham made his servant swear not to bring a canaanite as a wife to his son

v4 Abraham wants Isaac to have a wife from Haran and his kindred

v6 Abraham does not want Isaac to go back to Haran the land where Abraham is from. It's interesting that Abraham didn't want Isaac to go to Haran; Jacob, Isaac's son, ends up living there for an extended period of time

v12 Abraham's servant prays to God to find Isaacā€™s wife

v15 Rebekah is Isaacā€™s cousin through Abrahamā€™s brother Nahor

v48 God leads those who serve Him in the right way

v51 Laban and Bethuel, Rebekahā€™s father and brother allowed Rebekah to go with Abrahamā€™s servant

v52 The servant thanks God for answering his prayer that allowed him to find Isaac's wife. He bowed himself to the earth to worship God

v58 Rebekahā€™s family wanted her to stay at least 10 more days before leaving and the servant asked for her to leave now. Rebekah obeyed God and chose to leave with the servant and not stay with her family an extra 10 days

v60 Having a lot of seeds was very important to many

v67 There is no wedding ceremony to become husband and wife. Isaac loved the woman God provided for him

GENESIS CHAPTER 25 NOTES

v1 Isaac and Rebekahā€™s children were Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah

v5 Abraham gave all he had unto Isaac

v6 Abraham had concubines. He had sons with them and sent them away with gifts

v7 Abraham was 115 years old when he passed away

v8 The Bible calls 115 years a good old age

v9 Isaac buried Abraham where his mother Sarah was buried

v13-16 Ishmael had 12 sons who were princes to nations

v17 Ishmael lived to 137 years old, lived longer than his father

v20 Rebekahā€™s family were Syrian

v21 Rebekah was barre, Isaac intreated the Lord, then Rebekah conceived

v23 Rebekah had twins. The elder twin shall serve the younger twin

v25 First twin son Esau

v26 Second twin named Jacob

v27 Esau and Jacob had opposite personalities

v28 Isaac favored Esau, Rebekah favored Jacob. They ate venisonšŸ˜€

v30 Esau was called Edom. Not sure what the meaning of ā€œā€¦for I am faintā€¦ā€ means here

v32 Esau feels heā€™s near the point of dying, not sure why

v33 Esau sold his birthright to Jacob.

v34 Did Esau sell his birthright only for food?

I agree with your comments CP & V.

The only thing I would add is that the concern about intermarriage relates to God's will for Israel to remain separate from the Gentiles until the Messiah is provided for the potential salvation of all.

Also:

GN 22:8. These words of Abraham to Isaac may be viewed as the first prophetic reference to Jesus (JN 1:29), although they had an immediate fulfillment (in v.13). Many years later, Moses instituted the sacrificial system that also portrayed the future messianic atonement. Jesus instituted the observance of the Lordā€™s Supper as a remembrance of the fact that His death fulfilled this system, so that Believers no longer need to practice it.

After Abraham, Isaac had two sons, Esau and Jacob. Jacob, whose name was changed to Israel (in GN 32:28 & 35:10), had twelve ā€œsonsā€, whose families moved to Egypt because of drought and famine in Canaan, where they became slaves of the pharaohs (GN 47:21) until Moses led the Exodus. When Moses was called by God, he asked God to reveal His name, and Godā€™s answer is our next key teaching.

GENESIS CHAPTER 26 NOTES

v1 Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines because of famine in the land

v2 ā€œAnd the Lord appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of:ā€ - The Lord appeared to Isaac.

v3-4 God makes the same promises to Isaac as He did Abraham

v8 God explains why He blessed Abraham. God has commandments, statutes, and laws

v7 Again in Abimelechā€™s kingdom, like Abraham, Isaac claims Rebekah as his sister

v10 Abimelech reasons with Isaac like he did Abraham

v11 Abimelech protects Isaac and his wife

v12 Isaac was blessed with 100 fold in the same year. God is great and always providing riches for those who serve himšŸ˜€

v14 the Philistines envied Isaac because of the things he had

v15 the Philistines filled Abrahamā€™s well with earth

v16 Abimelech sends Isaac away for being much mightier. Envy can corrupt men that had integrity

v20-22 the men of Gerar were striving over Isaacā€™s well. His father experienced the same

v24 ā€œAnd the Lord appeared unto him the same night, and said, I am the God of Abraham thy father; fear not, for I am with thee, and will bless thee, and multiply for my servant Abrahamā€™s sake.ā€ - We are seeing how God appeared to Isaac in Gen 26:2. God tells Isaac to fear not

v25 Isaac digs a well in Beersheba again where the covenant was made between Abraham and Abimelech

v34 Esau married Judith and Bashemath daughters of Hittites (Canaanites). If the Lord did not want Isaac to marry a Canaanite, it doesnā€™t seem like this would be a good thing

v35 Esau Hittie wives were a grief to Isaac and Rebekah

GENESIS CHAPTER 27 NOTES

v1 Isaac had poor eyesight in old age

v3 Isaac really enjoyed venisonšŸ˜€

v4 ā€œAnd make me savoury meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die.ā€ - Isaac loved meat. Carnivores will love this versešŸ„©šŸ˜€

v8-10 Rebekah is instructing Jacob to be deceptive or was she obeying what God said would happen? I think goat and venison taste very different, maybe the spices masked which was which

v12 Jacob knew right from wrong

v13 Tough situation. Parent is telling you to obey them and cursed if you donā€™t obey them to commit a deceptive act. He didn't know what God told Rebekah

v19 Jacob lies that he is Esau to Isaac and that he had venison

v21 Isaac did not believe him

v22 I thought earlier, how can he pull this off since they should sound different. Isaac did know Jacobā€™s voice

v23 Isaac was deceived because he didnā€™t think that Jacob could make himself hairy like Esau

v24 After blessing Jacob, Isaac still asks if he is Esau. Jacob says yes

v29 Jacobā€™s blessings

v33-34 They were both upset, tough moment. I was thinking before that Esau knew he did sell his birthright to Jacob - not sure why it seems like both Jacob and Esau have forgotten that moment. I also remember what God said to Rebekah about the older son serving the younger son

v36 Didnā€™t realize the birthright and the blessing were two different things

v38 Tough situation. Isaac and Esau had a strong bond and there was nothing he could do for him. God's will, will prevail.

v39-40 ā€œAnd Isaac his father answered unto him, Behold thy dwelling shall be the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above; And by thy sword shalt thou live and shalt serve thy brother; and it shall come to pass when thou shalt have the dominion, that thou shalt break his yoke from off thy neck.ā€ - Is this saying that once Jacob passes Esau will have his blessings?

v41 Esau hated Jacob and wanted to kill him

v42-43 Rebekah tells Jacob that Esau wants to kill him and to flee to the land where Abraham is from, Haran, where her brother is

v46 ā€œAnd Rebekah said to Isaac, I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth: if Jacob take a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these which are of the daughters of the land, what good shall my life do me?ā€ - not clear on the meaning of what Rebekah said

GENESIS CHAPTER 28 NOTES

v1-2 Isaac tells Jacob to not take a daughter of Canaan as a wife. Take a wife from Rebekahā€™s family which is in the land of Haran where Abraham is from

v8-9 Esau saw that a Canaanite wife did not please his father and married Mahalath that was daughter of Ishmael Abrahamā€™s son. That would make her his cousin

v12 Jacob dreams while going towards Haran. The Bible states when it's a dream

v13-15 God tells Jacob His promise to him in his dream. God appeared to Abraham and Isaac not in dreams. God told his promise to Jacob in a dream

v16 Was Jacob not a believer of God before?

v17 ā€œAnd he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.ā€ - What place is Jacob calling dreadful? Earth, because he saw heaven in his dream?

v20-22 Jacob vowed that the Lord would be his God if God gave him protection, food, and clothing coming back to his fatherā€™s house in peace; he would give a tenth of all that he is given to God

v7-8 Seems important to note

v9 Rachel (women) kept sheep

v10-11 This seems to be what is important about verses 7 and 8

v16 Labanā€™s daughters were Leah and Rachel

v18 Jacob loved Rachel

v20-21 Evidence of what love is

v23 Why didnā€™t Jacob not recognize Leah was not Rachel?

v26 Laban explains why Leah was given to Jacob instead of Rachel

v30 Jacob served Laban 14 years to have Rachel as his wife

v31 ā€œAnd when the Lord saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb; but Rachel was barren.ā€ God does not like for you to hate someone

GENESIS CHAPTER 30 NOTES

v1 Rahcel envied Leah

v3 Rachel proposed the same thing as Sarah - makes me think of how often was this done

v5 Jacob had a son by Rachelā€™s handmaid Bilhah

v6 Rachel named this son Dan

v7 Second son was born from the handmaid

v8 Rachel name him Naphtali

v9 When left bearing she gave her maid Zilpah to Jacob to wife - this does seem to be common

v10 Zilpah, Leahā€™s maid, had a son from Jacob

v11 Leah named him Gad

v14 Leah named the second son from Zilpah Asher

v15 Leah has animosity towards Rachel

v16 That was direct!šŸ˜²

v17 Leah has a 5th son for Jacob

v18 Leah named him Issachar. Noticing that the mothers are naming children

v19 Leah had Jacobā€™s sixth son. This appears to be a miracle because she left bearing - Iā€™m assuming that meant she no longer had menstruation, but not sure

v20 Leah named him Zebulun. Tough to hear Leah ask her husband to spend time with her

v21 Leah has a daughter named Dinah

v22 God opens up Rachelā€™s womb - noticed this happens after Leah shows Rachel animosity

v23 Rachel has a son

v24 Rachel names him Joseph. Joseph is Jacob and Rachelā€™s first biological child

v25 Jacob is still in the land of Haran with Rachelā€™s father Laban

v31-32 ā€œAnd he said what shall I give thee? And Jacob said, Thou shalt not give me anything: if thou wilt do this thing for me, I will again feed and keep thy flock. I will pass through all thy flock to day, removing from then all the speckled and spotted cattle, and all the brown cattle among the sheep, and the spotted and speckled among the goats: and of such shall be my hire.ā€ - it seems he is selecting the animals that are not usually desired? Iā€™m not sure the significance of his selection

v37-43 Jacob was a great livestock farmer

I thought I'd be earlier than I usually am today (I haven't even had coffee yet!) in case I lose internet for a while when the technicians are here. I hope by 5pm I have better internet! That's what they told me, anyway.

Nice work on the early post! I was delayed yet again this time by an unexpected event that happened yesterday. I posted because I had planned to post. You don't have to reply them, I know it's a lot!šŸ˜… Next time I promise if someone starts the posting of 10 Chapters before me, I will only use their postšŸ˜€

Chapter 21

There are many similarities between the story of Isaac and Christ. Both were the only son, both were miraculous births, both carried their own wood to their sacrifice, the both had a 3 day experience, etc. etc. A symbol of things to come.

Yes! I noticed similarities. What is the 3-day experience for Isaac?

I always find it interesting when I read that God promised Abraham that He will multiply his seed as the stars of heaven.
"By measuring the number and luminosity of observable galaxies, astronomers put current estimates of the total stellar population at roughly 70 billion trillion (7 x 1022)." source Sky&Telescope It was also mentioned that as telescopes become more sensitive/advances, more stars will be visible. What an incredible number!

That's an interesting fact, thanks! I also noticed to carry out to have that many seed, they (Abraham, Isaac, Jacob), have to sleep with more than one wife.

Chapter 24
Abraham was adamant that Isaac not be married to one of the Canaanite daughters.

This stood out to me too since he was very serious about it

You'll love this, Verite, the Canaanites worshiped a mother god lol
Asherah, her primary role was mother goddess. I can see you acting like Abraham in this chapter if you were in that situation lol.

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ I'm serious about Jesus Christ, I can't help it!

Chapter 25

Esau was born very hairy. That always sticks out to me (please, don't ask lol). God had told Rebecca that Esau would serve Jacob. Later, Esau would become the Edomites.

This stood out to me too. Especially at birth. I don't recall seeing a hairy infant.

Esau sells his birthright for a bowl of lentils. I feel sorry for him. I love lentils, but not that much.

I agree! If you see my notes. I asked did he sell his birthright for food? I knew he would get food since that started the discussion, but thought he was getting something else since "selling" his birthright was involved.

Chapter 26

Okay, so Esau goes and marries some Hittite women. This really disappointed his parents. Verite, are you ready for this? The Hittites worshiped a mother goddess!
Her name Hannahanna.

I was wondering if they had warned him before, since they were disappointed. When we read later, it didn't seem like they did because Esau finds a new wife that is not a Canaanite. He learned Isaac didn't approve of Canaanite wives when Esau overheard Isaac speaking with Jacob.

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ You are really giving me the heads up of what's to come and where the "god the mother" people came from! Now there will be less of a shock value and I can read it with calmšŸ˜‚

Chapter 27

Personally speaking, I was an only child and after reading these Jacob and Esau stories, I'm glad I was an only child lol.

šŸ˜… There are pros to having siblings, especially when there are many. When there are just two, if the relationships are strained, it does present many challenges as we saw with Jacob and Esau.

I remember the ladder in Jacob's dream being interesting. I didn't have any context because of where I am in the Bible now. Looking forward to learning more!šŸ˜€

Chapter 29
Laban is a real bleep now as well as later, pardon my language.

Wait, what was wrong with Laban? I totally missed thatšŸ˜… Is it because he gave Leah instead of Rachel? I really felt for Jacob. Then Leban explains the culture, so I thought it was a cultural norm and maybe not something that was meant maliciously.

I feel sympathetic to Leah. It seems God did also. Leah bore Judah. Christ comes through the lineage of Judah. Also, another interesting thing is that in death Jacob is buried with Leah. Rachel is not buried with him.

I'm getting too many spoilersšŸ˜…

Interesting, I need to study those verses more
