Chapter 41
A lot to unpack in this chapter.
The Pharaoh has dreams and the forgetful chief butler finally remembers Joseph.
😅
Joseph got cleaned and shaved and put fresh clothes on...you can't be stanky around the Pharaoh!
Joseph tells Pharaoh, "It's not me, but God who will give you an answer." Always put God first and acknowledge that it is Him who gives you wisdom and ability to do the things you are able to do.

Amen! This must always be remembered😀

Joseph goes from being in a dungeon prison to being second only to Pharaoh. He was given a wife, with whom he has 2 sons (Manasseh and Ephraim).
He spends 7 years gathering food, so much so that it was without number.
After, there was famine. The famine became so severe on the Earth, that all countries came to Joseph for food.

Chapter 42
Jacob's sons travel to Egypt for food (except Benjamin). They run into Joseph, but they don't recognize him. He recognizes them though. He speaks roughly to them and calls them spies. He tells them they must bring back their youngest brother. Simeon is bound and left behind while the other brothers head back to their father. Joseph commands that their sacks be filled with corn and their money and provisions.
When they get back to their father, he's not happy with the situation and won't let them return to Egypt with Benjamin.

Chapter 43
Jacob finally allows them to return to Egypt with Benjamin. You change your mind about things when you're hungry.
😅
He sends his sons with gifts and double money. They arrive in Egypt and are brought into Joseph's house to dine. He treats them kindly this time. Their feet are washed. Feet are important in the Bible. I like my feet. They get me places.
I noticed this
Joseph set the brothers in order of their age and gave Benjamin 5 times as much.
Occasionally, Joseph has to go hide and have a good cry. I feel ya' Joseph.
I didn't realize the Bible showed character's emotions like this. Really felt for Joseph!

Chapter 44
Joseph continues to play with his brothers. It seems fair after their shananigans when he was a youth. He has their bags filled food and their money, plus he has his silver cup put into Benjamin's bag.
They left. Later the bags were searched, the cup is found in Benjamin's bag, they have to return to the city. Judah approaches Joseph, asking that he take him instead of Benjamin. If Benjamin doesn't return back to Jacob, it will be the death of Jacob.

Chapter 45
Joseph can't stand it anymore and reveals himself to his brothers. They are speechless.
He says, "Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life." Joseph was a wise and true man of God. What they meant for evil, God meant for good. "All things work together for good to them that love God."
Amen!
Wagons and all kinds of things are sent back to Canaan to fetch Jacob. The Pharaoh gives them the good land of Egypt. When they get to Jacob and tell him the news, he is astonished. But, soon he revives and decides to go to Egypt.

Chapter 46
Israel offers sacrifices to God in Beersheba. God speaks to him and tells him to fear not going into Egypt.
Israel arrives in Egypt and they came into the land of Goshen. Joseph and Israel are reunited and weep.

Chapter 47
Five of the brothers meet the Pharaoh. Jacob meets the Pharaoh. Jacob was 130 years old at the time. Jacob blesses Pharaoh. Pharaoh commands they be given the best in the land of Egypt.
Joseph rounds up all the money in the land of Egypt for bread.
When money failed, Joseph took all their livestock.
When they were out of livestock, he took their land (except for the land belonging to the priests).

Chapter 48
Israel blesses Joseph's sons. He says that they are as his own sons. He also puts his right hand on the younger son's head, saying that he will be a greater nation.

Chapter 49
Jacob gathers his sons to him. Here we see why it was a big mess up for Reuben to have slept with Bilhah. He loses his place as firstborn.
Yeah, that was really unfortunate. Jacob also said he wouldn't excel which was the hardest thing
Jacob speaks longer about Judah here. Judah is the lineage of Christ.
And continued with each and he blessed them; every one according to his blessing he blessed them.
At the end of this chapter Jacob dies at 147.

Chapter 50
Jacob is embalmed and they mourn for him 40 days.
I got confused about the 40 days, since it said in the same verse that the Egyptians mourned for him threescore and 10 days
With Pharaoh's permission, Joseph went up from Egypt with a great company to bury his father. He buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah with Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Rebecca, and Leah.
After they returned to Egypt, Joseph's brothers were afraid of what Joseph might do to them. But, Joseph said, "Fear not: for am I in the place of God? God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive." Powerful.
Felt the same. Joseph was respectful of making sure God was always acknowledged in all that he did, which was admirable.
Before Joseph died, he told his brethern that God will bring them out of the land (which he does in the next book) and he told them to carry his bones with them out of the land (which happens in the Exodus). Then Joseph dies at 110 years old.
Spoilers, I know you can't help it😅

Isn't that the truth lol. I forgot how long the last 10 chapters of Genesis are

You can give me a heads up for the long chapters😅

I got started early, yet barely finished before I had to leave.

Glad we were on the same page today with early starts🙌

Sorry! I guess I didn't think much of this part because I don't think I actually learned this first from the Bible. When I was child, I'd watch Cecil B. DeMille's The Ten Commandments every Easter season with my dad. In that movie, they show them taking Joseph's bones with them in the Exodus.
Have mercy, I'll try to do better! lol :p

Heading in early to be up early to read. Enjoyed the notes😀 Looking forward to Exodus, seems like a lot happens there. Have an amazing night!🌛
I enjoyed your notes too! I meant to respond to them, but was running on empty (I need to get a better sleep schedule lol).

May your night be comfortable and restful!

Btw, Verite, I did a quick look at the length of Exodus 1-10. Even I need a reminder sometimes! Anyway, the chapters don't appear to be as long as today's study.

No worries!! I have learned some Bible stories growing up, but not most of them or in detail like the Bible is telling them. Learning many new things😀

EXODUS CHAPTER 1 NOTES

v5 All the souls that came out of Jacob’s (Israel) loins were seventy souls

v6 “And Joseph died, and all his brethren, and all that generation.” - Wish we heard more of their story before they passed.

v7 Children were exceedingly mighty and plenty in the land of Egypt

v8 New king in Egypt that did not know Joseph.
I can see where this is possibly going. Children of Israel is doing exceedingly well with a new king that did not know Joseph. Abimelech knew Abraham but still got envious of Abraham once he started doing more well than his people in his land. Abimelech told Abraham to leave. This king did not know Joseph so it seems like it could be worse for them.

v10 “Come one, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land.” - How the new king felt about the children of Israel

v12 “But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the children of Israel.” - The Power of God😀

v14 The Egyptians made the children of Israel serve the Egyptians with rigour

v16 “And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live.” - Wow, did not know this before. Really messed up.

v17 “But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.” - Amen!

v20 God dealt well with the midwives for not following the king’s command

v21 God made the midwives houses for fearing him

v22 “And Pararoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.” - Pharaoh was a cruel man. Pharaoh could have sent the people out of his land like Abimelech, instead he is torturing them

EXODUS CHAPTER 2 NOTES

v1 “And there went a man of the house of Levi” - not sure if this means that this man was a relative of Levi. This man took to wife a daughter of Levi. Levi is a son of Jacob (Israel) and Leah

v2 The daughter of Levi bare a son and hid him for 3 months due to Pharaoh’s command of casting Hebrew sons into the river

v6 The daughter of Pharaoh knew the baby was one of the Hebrew’s children

v8 Pharaoh’s daughter called the child’s mother

v9 “And Pharaoh’s daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the women took the child, and nursed it.” - Pharaoh’s daughter was a kind woman

v10 “And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and she said, Because I drew him out of the water.” - Was not aware that it was Pharaoh’s daughter that found Moses (thought it was his wife), she knew he was Hebrew, allowed Moses's mom to nurse him. A lot learned😀

v12 Mose killed an Egyptian for beating another Hebrew

v14 Moses overheard two Hebrew men talking about the killing of the Egyptian and feared everyone knew

v15 “Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and he sat down by a well.” - Glad I’m reading the Bible for my own understanding with the guidance of God. The movies do change a lot of things. They put in speculation between Moses being found as an infant and the killing of the Egyptian.

v17 Moses defended the 7 daughters from the shepherds

v18 Reuel was priest of Midian with 7 daughters. Gen 36:10 “…..Reuel the son of Bashemath the wife of Esau” Esau is twin to Jacob (Israel) sons of Isaac and Rebekah

v19 The daughters saw Moses as an Egyptian not Hebrew. They said Moses helped the draw water

v20 Reuel wants to eat with and meet Moses for helping his daughters

v21 Reuel gave Moses his daughter Zipporah

v22 Moses first born son with Zipporah is Gershom

v23 The king of Egypt died. The children of Israel cry to God by reason of the bondage

v24 God heard them and remembered his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (Israel)

v25 God had respect for the children of Israel

EXODUS CHAPTER 3 NOTES

v1 Reuel is now being named “Jethro” - name change because he was now a priest? Moses came to the mountain of God

v2 “And the angle of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.”

v3 Moses marveled at the bush not being burnt

v4 Called unto Moses out of the midst of the bush. The angle of the Lord appeared in the bush. God called out to him in the bush

v5 God tells Moses to take off his shoes because he stands on holy ground

v6 Moses hid his face because he was afraid to look upon God

v8 “And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.” - “And I am come down…” God says will deliver the Children of Israel out of the hands of the Egyptians

v10 God wants Moses to go to Pharaoh to bring the children of Israel out of Egypt

v11 Moses questions God and has humility

v12 God said he will be with Moses. God said Moses should serve Him on the mountain of God when he brings the children of Israel out of Egypt

v14 God tells Moses to tell the children of Israel “I Am hath sent me unto you”

v15 “And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, the Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.” Shows why Genesis was important to read to learn who God’s memorial was to all generations.

v16 “Go, and gather moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, the Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, appeared unto me, saying, I have surely visited you, and seen that which is done to you in Egypt:” - God appeared to Moses

v18 “The Lord God of the Hebrews”

v19 God says the king of Egypt will not let them go

v20 God says he will smite Egypt

v22 “But every woman shall borrow of her neighbour, and of her that sojourneth in her house, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment: and ye shall put them upon your sons, and upon our daughters; and ye shall spoil the Egyptians.” - not clear on the meaning of this verse. I’m guessing it means that the children of Israel will take the riches of the Egyptians?

EXODUS CHAPTER 4 NOTES

v1 Moses doubts God. I noticed that Moses says “…they will say, The Lord hath not appeared unto thee.” In Exodus chapter 2, it says that Moses hid his face from God, and later in the chapter it says that God told Moses to tell the children of Israel that He appeared unto Moses. Not clear on what is actually true. From what Moses is saying it seems he has not seen God.

v3 When Moses cast his rod on the ground as God directed him to, the rod became a serpent

v4 Moses caught the snake as God directed and it turned back into a rod in his hand

v6 God told Moses to put his hand to his bosom and after Moses did, his hand turned leprous as snow

v7 God told Moses to repeat the same action and Moses hand turned to as it was before

v8 “And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe thee, either hearken to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter sign.” The power of God😀

v9 “And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe also these two signs, neither hearken unto thy voice, that thou shall take of the water of the river, and pour it upon the dry land: and the water which thou takest out of the river shall become blood upon the dry land.”

v10 “And Moses said unto the Lord, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.”
-Moses was not confident to carry out God’s command. He is coming up with multiple excuses. If we remember Noah in Genesis, he did as God commanded without questioning him. He was very obedient. Not saying we shouldn’t question God righteously like Abraham did in the case of Sodom and Gomorrah. Only recognizing that Noah and Moses were asked to do very big tasks and had different responses to God.

v11 God created all things (I’m seeing it as all things that were born naturally from natural conception)

v12 “Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.” - If God is with you, He will show the way

v15 Moses continues to doubt

v14 God gets angry with Moses. Aaron is a Levite and suggests that he is Moses's brother. Aaron speaks well. God said that Moses and Aaron will meet

v15 Aaron will be a spokesperson for Moses

v16 God calls Aaron a spokeman for Moses

v17 God said that Moses should keep the rod with him to do signs

v18 Reuel referred to has “Jethro.” Moses tells him that he is going to Egypt

v19 God said all those in Egypt looking to kill Moses are dead

v20 Moses took his wife and sons with him to Egypt. The rod Moses had was called “the rod of God”

v21 God tells Moses to do the signs before Pharaoh, but He would harden his heart to not let the people go

v22 “…Thus saith the Lord, Israel is my son, even my firstborn:"

v24 “And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the Lord met him, and sought to kill him.” - not clear who “him” is

v25 The Lord sought to kill the first born of Moses? Why? Verse 23 mentions the Lord slaying Pharaoh’s firstborn. Zipporah circumcises her son. “…Surely a blood husband art thou to me...” who is Zipporah speaking to? Not clear the meaning

v26 “So he let him go…” who is him? The Lord? “…A bloody husband thou art, because of the circumcision.” - not clear the meaning

v27 God tells Aaron to go meet Moses and they met on the mount of God.
Earlier it mentions that Moses left with his wife and sons to Egypt. Zipporah was in an inn defending her first born while Moses is on the Mount of God - not clear if these events happened simultaneously, in chronological order, or out of order

v31 “And the people believed: and when they heard that the Lord had visited the children of Israel, and that he had looked upon their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.”

EXODUS CHAPTER 5 NOTES

v1 Moses and Aaron tell Pharaoh God says to let His people go

v2 Pharaoh says he does not know God and will not let the children of Israel go

v7 Pharaoh made work harder on the Hebrews because of what Moses and Aaron were saying

v21 “And they said unto them, The Lord look upon you, and judge; because ye have made our savour to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sward in their hand to slay us.” - The officers of the children of Israel have doubt after the punishment of Pharaoh

v22-23 Moses doubts God again

EXODUS CHAPTER 6 NOTES

v1 God assures Moses that he will deliver the children of Israel

v3 “And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name Jehovah was I not known to them.” - God states multiple times that he has appeared unto Abraham, Isaac, Jacob (Israel). First mention of "Jehovah" in the Bible

v8 “And I will bring you in unto the land, concerning the which I did swear to give it to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give it you for an heritage: I am the Lord.” - God repeats his promise. It appears that the land of Canaan that was promised to the fathers has not been acquired by the children of Israel yet

v9 The children of Israel did not listen to Moses because of their anguish from the punishment of Pharaoh

v11 God tells Moses to tell Pharaoh to let the children of Israel go

v12 Moses doubts God again

v16 Levi son of Jacob (Israel) lived to 137 years old

v20 Kohath (verse 16) is a son of Levi. One of Kohath’s sons is Amram (verse 18). Amran took his father’s (Kohath) sister as a wife, named Jochebed. Together they had Aaron and Moses. Amram lived to be 137 years old the same as his grandfather Levi

v30 It is continued from verse 12 where Moses was doubting God

EXODUS CHAPTER 7 NOTES

v1 God tells Moses that He made Moses a god unto Pharaoh and Aaron Moses’s prophet

v4 “But Pharaoh shall not hearken unto you, that I may lay my hand upon Egypt, and ring forth mine armies, and my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgements.” - God reminds Moses his plan to deliver the children of Israel from Egypt

v6 Moses and Aaron obeyed God

v7 Moses was 80 years old and Aaron 83 years old when they spoke to Pharaoh

v11 “Then Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers: now the magician of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments.” - First time we see “enchantments” - signs of false power/god.

v12 “For they cast down every man his rod, and they became serpents: but Aaron’s rod swallowed up their rods.” - God is all powerful😀

v20 “And Moses and Aaron did so, as the Lord commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and smote the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood.”

v22 “And the magicians of Egypt did so with their enchantments: and Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, neither did he hearken unto them; as the Lord has said.” - The Bible shows again that people can do similar signs but are not of God. The words sorcerers, enchantments, magicians, have been used thus far to describe signs not of God

v24 “And all the Egyptians digged round about the river for water to drink; for they could not drink of the water of the river.” - interesting how they could dig for water in many places starting from when reading about Abraham

v25 “And seven days were fulfilled, after that the Lord had smitten the river.” - not clear on the meaning

EXODUS CHAPTER 8 NOTES

v1 God tells Moses to tell Pharaoh again to let His people go for them to serve Him

v2 If Pharaoh does not adhere to God’s command he will plague them with frogs. Second plague. First plague, river turned to blood

v7 “And the magicians did so with their enchantments, and brought up frogs upon the land of Egypt.” - Again magicians appeared to match God’s power which is not true power. Reminder to not be deceived by enchantments

v8 “Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, Intreat the Lord, that he may take away the frogs from me, and from my people; and I will let the people go, that they may do sacrifice unto the Lord.” - It seems like Pharaoh is honoring God’s request

v14 “And they gathered them together upon heaps: and the land stank.” The frogs didn’t vanish they died and had to be cleaned up

v15 “But when Pharaoh saw that there was respite, he hardened his heart, and hearkened not unto them; as the Lord had said.” - This is how it is in reality, some people will refuse God, no matter the amount of evidence

v17 “And they did so; for Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod, and smote the dust of the earth, and it became lice in man, and in beast; all the dust of the land became lice through all the land of Egypt.” - Third plague

v18 “And the magicians did so with their enchantment to bring forth lice, but they could not...” - a power of God that the magicians could not imitate

v19 “Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh, This is the finger of God: and Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the Lord had said” - Even the magicians now knew this is the actions of God and warned Pharaoh. Some people will be stubborn even when truth is in their face

v20 God tells Moses again to let His people go for them to serve Him

v22 “And I will sever in that day the land of Goshen, in which my people dwell, that no swarms of flies shall be there; to the end thou mayest know that I am the Lord in the midst of the earth.” - God’s people would be protected

v24 Fourth plague, the swarm of flies, was done by God not the rod of God

v28 “And Pharaoh said, I will let you go, that ye may sacrifice to the Lord your God in the wilderness; only ye shall not go very far away; intreat for me” - It seems Pharaoh agrees to let the children of Israel go. He warns them to not go far, it seems he has the intentions that they return

v29 Moses warns Pharaoh “…let not Pharaoh deal deceitfully any more in not letting the people go to sacrifice to the Lord.”

v31 God removed the flies, there remained not one - this was different from the plague of frogs that was carried out by the rod of God

v32 “And Pharaoh hardened his heart at this time also, neither would he let the people go.” - reminder some people are stubborn to the core

EXODUS CHAPTER 9 NOTES

v1 God tells Moses again to let His people go for them to serve Him

v5 “And the Lord did that thing on the morrow, and all the cattle of Egypt died: but of the cattle of the children of Israel died not one” - Fifth plague. God protects the children of Israel. The rod of God was not used for this plague

v7 Pharaoh checked if the cattle were still living with the children of Israel. Pharaoh’s heart still hardened after seeing (the truth) God's protection of Israel. You are doomed if you think you can defeat God

v10 “And they took ashes of the furnace, and stood before Pharaoh; and Moses sprinkled it up toward heaven; and it became a boil breaking forth with blains upon man, and upon beast.” - “Blain” meaning an inflamed swelling or sore on the skin. First plague done without the rod of God or directly from God

v11 “And the magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils; for the boil was upon the magicians, and upon all the Egyptians.” - The magicians could not protect themselves from the power of God

v12 “And the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he hearkened not unto them; as the Lord had spoken unto Moses.” - God’s Will will be done

v13 God tells Moses again to let His people go for them to serve Him

v14 “For I will at this time send all my plagues upon thine heart, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people; that thou mayest know that there is none like me in all the earth.” - There is none like God

v23 "And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven: and the Lord sent thunder and hail, and the fire ran along upon the ground; and the Lord rained hail upon the land of Egypt.” - Seventh plague.

v24 “So there was hail, and fire mingled with hail, very grievous, such as there was none like it in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation.” - It seems to be implying this occurred before

v26 “Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were, was there no hail.” - God protects the children of Israel

v27 “And Pharaoh sent, and called for Moses and Aaron, and said unto them, I have sinned this time: the Lord is righteous, and I and my people are wicked.” Interesting that Pharaoh said “this time”; and surprising he admits his people are wicked

v29 “And Moses said unto him, As soon as I am gone out of the city, I will spread abroad my hands unto the Lord; and the thunder shall cease, neither shall there be any more hail; that thou mayest know how that the ear is the Lord’s.” - Moses has become wiser. We shall also be wise, once someone has proven themselves to be a deceiver, you should be wise and not trust them

v35 “And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, neither would he let the children of Israel go; as the Lord had spoken by Moses.” - some people never learn no matter how grievous the affliction

EXODUS CHAPTER 10 NOTES

v1 “And the Lord said unto Moses, Go into Pharaoh: for I have hardened his heart, and the heart of his servants, that I might shew these my signs before him:” - God tells Moses to return to Pharaoh

v2 “And that though mayest tell in the ears of thy son, and of thy son’s son, what things I have wrought in Egypt, and my signs which I have done among them; that ye know how that I am the Lord.” - noted for verse 18

v7 “And Pharaoh’s servants said unto him, How long shall this man be a snare unto us? let the men go, that they may serve the Lord their God: knowest thou not yet that Egypt is destroyed?" - some people refuse to see the truth no matter how obvious it is

v11 “Not so: go now ye that are men, and serve the Lord; for that ye did desire. And they were driven out from Pharoah’s presence.” - not clear if this Pharaoh denying them to leave by saying “Not so…” or denying God from what is said in verse 10

v13 “And Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt, and the Lord brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all that night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts.” - Eighth plague

v14 “…very grievous were they…neither after them shall there be such.” - That would mean the locust swarms in recent years were not as bad as this one

v18 “And he went out from Pharaoh, and intreated the Lord.” - God told Moses to go back to Pharaoh so he could show his signs (verse 1-2). Moses is obeying God even though he knows that Pharaoh is deceitful

v19 Not one Locust remained. The rod of God was used for this plague

v22 “And Moses stretched for his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days:” - Nineth plague

v23 “They saw not one another, neither rose any from his place for three days: but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.” - God protects the children of Israel
