Hey Everyone,

A song came on yesterday that I used to love, but it was popular during one of the most turbulent times of my life.

And I realized that even the first few notes had the effect of feeling like I was experiencing an emotional car crash, being violently thrown through the windshield, and then feeling every shard of glass piercing right through the depths of my soul.

In other words... All these years (decades) later, I still can't listen to that song.

What about you?

If a song reminds you of/is associated with a sad/traumatic event or relationship in your life, do you:

* Get rid of it immediately, never to listen to it again.

* Keep it as a reminder of lessons learned.

* Keep it in remembrance of something or someone you don't want to forget.

* Let it go for a while, but occasionally come back to see what your reaction is.

* Listen to it one last time, then let it go, or, keep it it if it no longer bothers you.

What do YOU do with songs that remind you of the worst of times?

Depends on how the songs fit in to that time. There are definitely songs that are linked to memories of a particular time and place, but usually they were the good in times that were a mixture of good and bad. So while I may have outgrown some songs and no longer listen to them (or wonder why I liked them in the first place) most songs that have been significant in my life stay in the rotation as reminders of all the things God has brought me through.

i made this song a week ago, and after, i told my pastor that i’d rather burn in hell than follow Jesus. I plan to keep this song to remember how dark life can get sometimes. God roots for the underdog though. I can make songs all day.

never dealt with anything like that. to me, you can easily disassociate that song from your pain. renew yourself. the devil wants you stuck in this situation. the closest i dealt with as such, are the songs my girlfriends & i would keep as "our song" in the past. so whenever i hear 1 of those tunes, my memory is al positive of that relationship. i view at what we had that was positive always, never the "not-so-good".

Mine might be a wee bit different, but here goes.
In my late 20s, I was in a miserable relationship. Everyone has at least one relationship they'd like to wipe clean from their past. That one is mine. At the time I hung out online a lot on Yahoo Answers. Anyone remember that? Well, anyway, I liked the music section. Toward the end of the relationship, I guess I must have mentioned it on there, and a guy sent me this song to cheer me up. To this day I still have it in my playlists and am thankful to be far away from that relationship lol...

I used to love static-x. I even bought one of their albums around middle school or high school.

Wayne Static was talented, too bad he died young.
Sometimes I’m concerned about my younger aunt dying young. She over came heroine addiction and she plays shows almost every day but the life she lives is hedonistic and against God’s design. So I pray about her and current life style.

When me an ex broke up, i played this on repeat. i don’t know why i tortured myself with this song. i had my heart broken many times when i was younger but i moved on fairly quickly and filled up my heart with alcohol and partying. Around that time is when i started drinking to black out. i would chug an entire bottle of hard liquor right when i got to a party and my friends would tell me all of the crazy things i got myself into the next day, which usually involved me hooking up with a woman at the party or waking up to my jeans soaked in my piss…

I have songs that will put me right back to my darkest moments, but besides those, most music i rarely ever listen to is from before, and it brings back memories, and pain, loss, but precious memories, but some bring back all the darkness in a rush, once one brought me back into the pit for a long time, just on a vicious loop. some from that time i only ever listen to as anger music anyway, some, or most of it was christian songs, which, obviously, i thought about wrong, trying to find meaning in them and in christianity without christ. and so now, i think of them the right way, and it is different.
