Just wanted to say something about tariffs.
This Nation is a LOT different from when the last time our governments income derived from tariffs. Global economy....
The USA's GDP stems about half from government spending....unlike before when only 5% of our GDP stemmed from government spending.
And we do not manufacture products like we used to....obviously.
We do create intellectual property. NVDIA is not a manufacturer of processing chips....it holds the patents to them. Software is also usually either American or Israeli property...sometimes India.
Entertainment as well....Hollywood, Music, books and television all are exported....some we never consume domestically but brings in a fortune from exports.
Energy? Swapping petroleum products is the norm. Not all bitumen (petroleum after gasoline is cooked off) makes everything. Refinery time is precious. LNG is our chief export with no imports. Barely any coal is mined anymore. We use what we mine and that's about it.
Last is agricultural products....processed foods. The USA is the leader in exported and processed meat and cheeses. (Cleanest facilities)
Vehicles? The parts come from everywhere in the world. Sure, token amounts are assembled here...but the lion's share are imported.
Now....
The fun part.
Tariffs will reduce the quality of domestic goods....increase government corruption by foreign entities and not reduce personal income tax significantly. Many products are not feasible to manufacture in the USA...like motorcycle helmets.
Processor chips.....(Taiwan makes most)
Taiwan is a gold mine of cheap, skilled labor. Americans need a minimum of 5 years of heavy, insane ramping up to begin to catch up to learn how to make the chips or refine the silicon. Chemists and operators do NOT grow on trees. A "fan" (machine that makes chips) costs hundreds of millions of dollars and are backordered two to five years out. (We are the only nation capable of building them and export to China is prohibited)
Not to mention....we do not have people capable of making the chips...we would have to import Taiwanese to do it. They may not come.
Then comes in the part of the other 50%....the EPA won't allow it. Seismic issues....ground water....snail darter habitats and etc. And then the power? Nope....not happening either. We have an electricity shortage and again the EPA won't allow generation facilities to be built.
Honestly....I think Trump was making empty promises.
