Hey Everyone,

I wasn't really feeling that old -- until someone in a chat I'm in asked how anyone could have known (read) the lyrics to songs before the days of being able to look them up on the internet.

Another guy chimed in, saying that "back in the day" when you bought a music cassette tape or CD, sometimes the jacket or sleeve that came with it would contain the lyrics. I had forgotten all about that.

And the guy thinking that you could only look up song lyrics via Google is nearing 30 years old!! Apparently, young people in this age range have never bought or seen a CD close enough to know that some of them used to come with lyrics!

Man -- I didn't feel all that old -- until I heard THAT.

What about you?

What makes you realize that maybe you're not such a young spring chicken anymore? 🐣🐔🍗:giggle:

Everyone is welcome to answer, but I'm posting this in Singles because my hope of being a "young, cool single Aunt" indefinitely has obviously come to an end.

I started feeling old when my kids could actually beat me in athletic endeavors and I didn't let them win.

I've felt old for many years but recognize now that I actually am old. I always joke that I'm too young to join the old men's groups for breakfast at McDonalds. I do look younger than most of them but am older than a lot of them now.

When I'm in the house and take off my shoes I turn up then end of my pants two or three inches because my pants tend to slip down. Sometimes when I go out I forget to turn them back down. My wife will point out the cuffs and I'll just say I'm old, nobody will mind.

I've known it a while. It's nice to qualify for senior discounts at the barber shop!

At w*rk, I occasionally get referred to as Sir or Mister...

🤷

Oh man... that reminds me.

Let's not talk about all the ads I get for discounts for AARP (American Association of Retired People) and Botox!

(Is Botox a requirement to join AARP?!)

I feel old when I have to get up from the floor after playing with our toddler. I felt mega old when I went to a moms group, and most ladies said they were the first in their friend group to have a child. Meanwhile… most people my age have teens. Some are even grandparents. 🫠

Once upon a time at w*rk there was a new kid who was doing something very wrong, something that would make customers sick. When I tried to correct him on this, he gave me back talk to the effect that no managers had told him this. I said we can fix that, and went off to get a manager. (I am paid to tell new people how to do their jobs, but I am not paid enough to actually care if they do it. That is a manager's job.) The manager proceeded to correct him.

For the next half hour or so he kept slamming stuff around and grumbling to the effect that if I was not an old man he would beat me up. Little shrimp! I could have popped him easily and he would have never seen it coming. I know how humans are put together.

Later I found out he had already been arguing with other people before I got to w*rk. He didn't last much longer after that. Fired on his first day...

His uncle was also an employee, and after the kid left he made a broad apology to the entire store. I told him, don't worry about it. He's a kid. He'll grow up. Think about it, do you know any people our age who act like that? He'll get better.

But when that little twerp was muttering about he would beat the **** out of me if I wasn't an old man... I wanted real badly to prove (on the top of his head) just how old I was not.

I know I’m old when I hear new music and say, “what the heck is this? It’s horrible!” 😂😂😂

Not sure. Older folks fearing me in public is one thing that makes me feel old.

Me not liking popular music makes me feel old.

Not sure I should tell this, but--
About 4 years ago when I was still young (76) a young fellow ran into the back of my truck at Walmart.
No damage to my truck but messed up the front of his car.
He proceeded to say it was my fault using some choice words, so I asked him to not use those words.
He then said he was going to beat me up and when he came at me I hit him one time and he went down.
The police came and asked if he wanted to press charges against me for knocking him down.
He said, with a smile on his face, no was was he going to admit an old man beat him up.
My wife said "I've been telling you you were getting old, now do you believe me?"
THAT is when it hit me!

Mowing or raking the lawn, vacuuming, walking to get the mail... pretty much anything physical. Ironically having 2 great-granddaughters doesn't make me feel old.

That's because they are great granddaughters. If they were lousy granddaughters you might feel differently.

I'm no longer asked if I qualify for a seniors discount. It's assumed.
