Alex is for gun rights, but to make something false into truth is wicked, and the bible condemns it.
He was convicted for Libel and slander, that is a crime. In my opinion the penalty he has to pay fully pays the price for his crime. I have no problem with him being sued for that and I have no problem with the jury and judge determining he is guilty and needs to pay a steep price.

Personally I feel others should also be tried and convicted and hopefully that will happen. Also, I am against these laws becoming political. As long as justice is blind and the law is not administered differently based on what party you belong to or what group you belong to, then I am fine with it.

What I am concerned about is allowing the people in power to use this like a cudgel to beat up anyone they want to.

Galileo was executed because he said the Earth revolved around the Sun. I don't think there is any difference with that and someone who is concerned about 5G or the Vaccine. If we passed this law that Dude wants it is a major step towards dictatorship.

Here is the question that I have, now that Trump is the President how does he feel about making it illegal for a political leader or public person like the talking heads on MSNBC and CNN to refer to Americans as garbage and Deplorables? That is certainly dehumanizing and vilifying. Imagine if we were to now go through every public insult made about MAGA and prosecute them for slander and libel? Sure you can argue that the damages is 1% of the damages those family members of the 26 people killed received, but the amount of people being slandered is a million times more. So if Alex Jones is guilty for $1 billion then MSM and the Democrats are guilty to the tune of $1 trillion.

Exactly. If costs against Alex Jones are $1.5B for hurt feelings, I want $150B from Fauci and LSM for their covid scam and toxic vaccine lies - and hundreds of millions around the world are in the same position as me (or may demand even more, given the toxic vaccine injuries sustained). Justice should be blind - not politically biased toward communist agendas.

Another room temperature IQ response from you.
One of the families had to move 10 times because they were being harassed and threatened by Alex Jones minions.
That's a little more than just hurt feelings.

This is the result of big money controlling the media. Pure and simple.

Originally, big sponsors controlled the news media content by threatening to pull advertising dollars. (Consumer products and services) Then the big stock trading houses got involved by purchasing the stock of these news outlets. (Blackrock, Fidelity, Prudential and etc)

The political and corporate favoritism biases were obvious and blatant. People no longer trusted the main stream news due to major stories left out and others distorted.

That left the door wide open for independent journalism.

So now we have even less self restraint and a real lack of standards. Conspiracy theories are considered as fact with zero credibility to support them.

What is developing is a horde of locusts. Attractive but untouchable locust swarms destroying people's lives when they descend upon them involved in some random point of interest.

Truth? Completely not relevant for these independent journalists. The only thing that is important is the subject matter.

Alex Jones has not been stopped, He works for someone else now. Gets a paycheck. His affinity for the truth hasn't gotten any better. His outrageous claims are never based in fact. Still aren't. Sure, they took his toys and equipment....but they really haven't stopped him.

Conspiracy theories make stupid people feel smart, which is why Alex Jones is popular with stupid people

I suppose there was only one shooter in Dallas in 1963.
As well, some of the very smartest people I know, high achieving people, believe a man can become a woman.

Intelligence has little bearing on mass psychosis.

But that is really not the issue here. We have known all that for years.

The issue here is that the legal process was completely short circuited.

1. It was supposed to be the highest bid. And it was supposed to be public.

Then they changed the rules at the last minute making it private. When asked if it was the highest bid they responded "it was competitive" meaning it wasn't.

2. The money was supposed to have cleared and been in the bank for 30 days before they could take ownership and shut down the platform. Instead they came in and shutdown the platform before a dime had actually been transferred.

3. In a bankruptcy proceeding the judge must certify the result. They shut down Alex Jones yesterday before the judge certified.

Now why would they do all this, it had nothing to do with Sandy Hook. Since the election his videos have been receiving 100 million views while CNN and MSNBC are in the dumpster. It was clearly an attempt to silence him and it was done illegally, and if they can do it to someone getting 100 million views they can do it to anyone.

Also this smacks of trying to have your cake and eat it to. They put a $1 billion judgment on Alex Jones. That was the court judgment. Now with him getting a 100 million views on his posts it is clear he might be able to actually pay that judgment off from advertising revenue. So they come in and shut him down before he could actually pay off the judgment.

I understand libel and I understand suing someone over libel and although I thought $1 billion was absurdly high, I can even understand very high judgments. I don't have to agree with something to understand it.

However, there is no provision in the law where you can get to silence someone. That is when you have left a sound legal standing and are in the world of Nazi's, dictators, and Emperors.
Yeah. Constitutional free speech is a thing but that doesn't mean you can't be sued into Oblivion

ZNP, you can try to justify your opinion, but you already know that Alex Jones is in the wrong; otherwise, you would be comparing him to the wicked. I don't care what the liberals say. Their spiritual father is the devil. But we aren't supposed to be like that. We should be like John the Baptist, who stood up for what was right. Name-calling and making lies into truths. Who spiritual father are you and others who do such things?

No, there is no such thing. Lawsuits do not provide for sending you into oblivion. You can be bankrupted, but that does not mean that Elon Musk cannot buy MSNBC and give Alex Jones his own show.

You can get a 1.5 billion judgment against Alex Jones and if the Onion wants to buy his station to stop him from speaking they can do that, but they have to have the highest bid. If Babylon Bee wants to buy it so that he can keep speaking because he is popular they also can do that if they have the highest bid.

So no, there is no law that allows you to sue someone into oblivion regardless of how much you may want that to happen and that is precisely what the constitutional right to free speech is all about.

The constitutional right to free speech protects people who say things I disagree with. That is the point.

Libel and slander provide for people to get justice in the event someone uses their speech to harm others.

He has been sued, we have laws that protected the people who were harmed, the judgment was the harshest and steepest I have ever heard of for slander. But that is all the law provides. No one has the right to silence Alex Jones. If he slanders someone else in the future then by all means sue him. The desire to silence his voice is what dictators and totalitarian regimes do.

Daisyseesthesun you can try and justify your opinion, but you already know that censorship is wrong; otherwise you would be comparing those who want to do that to the wicked.

Constitutional free speech means the government can't put you in jail for what you say. It doesn't mean anyone owes you a platform

No one has said or suggested they do. However, if you are going to buy a failed business like MSNBC, or CNN you need people who will get good ratings and he gets good ratings, not like those pathetic pundits they employ but someone who will raise the ratings. So if Elon Musk or Babylon Bee wants to hire him they have that right.

ZNP, I'm sorry, I'm not in a good mood today and probably shouldn't be talking, but I agree with you that Alex Jones has freedom of speech. I just disagree that any Christian should be watching him. MSN is definitely guilty of silencing our voices.

I have never watched one of his shows. I am aware of his ratings, and I learned about the Onion trying to shut down the business without a court order from Steve Bannon's show which I will occasionally watch. I shared a link from him from youtube because it was relevant.

I do not watch MSNBC but because Bannon always shows them on his cold open I do see what they have to say and Bannon's point is that you have to know what they are saying.

In the same way I don't read NYTimes because they have intentionally lied about key stories, so they are not trustworthy. But that doesn't change the fact that if they publish a key story we need to know about it, they are still a major paper of record.

Even when I could not stand to listen to Rachel Maddow I respected the fact that she was influential and that was a valid reason to know what she is saying.

He says Alex Jones got sued over hurt feelings, implying that Alex Jones did nothing wrong.
If you scroll up, he also said Sandy Hook was a hoax
