The concept of being sinless? Or falling into sin at times?
Neither. Just me trying to stick with the original thread. lol

I believe the root of all sin is selfishness. Think about all of the times that you have been tempted to sin. Why were you tempted? Was it something you wanted that you knew was wrong? What something you wanted to do that you knew you shouldn't? Was something that would hurt someone else? Every time I have ever been tempted to sin, it has because of my own selfishness. Every time that I have been tempted to sin, I knew that it could possibly effect my right standing with God and others.

When we love God and others before ourself, it makes it easier to walk away from temptation. If we true feel this way toward God and others then the last thing we want to do is something that might hurt them in some capacity.

Loving God and others helps us die to our sense of self and, as a result, helps us overcome the temptation to sin. That's what dying to self is all about.

I hope this makes sense. Take care & God bless!

How can we love or give grace to others unconditionally if Jesus didn't do that first? We love, because He first loved. We give grace, because we have been given grace.
Exactly. It is because he first loved us that we are able to love God and others. It is that love that strengthens us, that transforms us, and inspires us to return that love and express that love toward others.

Without that love, dying to self becomes legalism.

Don't ya know? God only loves those who are perfect and have absolutely no sin and have earned his love. Oh wait. that would not be called love, that would be called reward.
Come on EG. Feel the love! Don't give in to the negativity that seems plague so many on these boards. :)

We can choose to disagree without allowing the negativity and sarcasm that seems to spew out of the mouths of so many infect us too.

You're a good guy EG. Don't play into their hands.

Yeah...when it comes to the very first post in this, I'd say I agree about dying to self. What I didn't agree on is being crucified, even as violently as Jesus was part.

Because it at first sounds like it's one of those Muslim rants and raves and it just doesn't sound good.

I see your point. I think he was referring to the Scriptures when Jesus said that if something males you sin, cut it off. While I would suggest plucking out your eyes if you covet your neighbors new clothes, I would suggest trying to distance yourself as far as possible so that you won't be tempted.

I interpreted the meaning as we need to sin as serious as Jesus did by doing everything in our power to avoid it.

Yeah, when you look at it that way, it sounds like some secret sect of monks who abuse themselves.

Claiming His name and walking out your Salvation are two completely different things.
coming from a oneness pentecostal who denies Christs divinity; a dominionist; a deluded sinless perfectionist and known fraud and liar, your words mean zero.

Paul, Jesus, and John taught grace and love.

No one is saying we should continue in it. We're saying we're not perfect.
this is the new breed of pietists.
they've thrown every ancient heresy including pelagianism into a blender and presto.

they're not worth arguing with

That does not sound like the love of God to me.

This is the kind of stuff that should not be allowed to go on at all.

You all shouldn't be arguing at all. You should agree to disagree and leave your grudges at the foot of the cross.
