Yes agree, 2000+ years of focus and energy in the wrong place.
It is really very tragic.
Before I begin, let me plainly state that this response is not aimed solely towards you. Instead, it is for everyone's consideration.
What is really very tragic is when people seek to understand the New Testament without recognizing that the things written therein were beforehand prophesied or foretold of in the Old Testament. In other words, the things that we read about in the New Testament are either already fulfillments of things prophesied or foretold of in the Old Testament or they will yet be fulfillments of the same at some later point in time.
There are plenty of places in the Old Testament which prophesy or foretell of a last days physical temple in Jerusalem, and here is but one of them.
Mic 4:1
But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it.
Mic 4:2
And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
Mic 4:3
And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.
Mic 4:4
But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make
them afraid: for the mouth of the LORD of hosts hath spoken
it.
Mic 4:5
For all people will walk every one in the name of his god, and we will walk in the name of the LORD our God for ever and ever.
Mic 4:6
In that day, saith the LORD, will I assemble her that halteth, and I will gather her that is driven out, and her that I have afflicted;
Mic 4:7
And I will make her that halted a remnant, and her that was cast far off a strong nation:
and the LORD shall reign over them in mount Zion from henceforth, even for ever.
Mic 4:8
And thou, O tower of the flock, the strong hold of the daughter of Zion, unto thee shall it come, even the first dominion; the kingdom shall come to the daughter of Jerusalem.
It has long been prophesied that "the house of the LORD," or "the house of the God of Jacob," will be established in "the mountain of the LORD," or in "Zion," or in "Jerusalem," or in Mt. Zion in Jerusalem, "in the last days." Before anybody even attempts to suggest that this has already been fulfilled, at that time the nations "shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more." We have yet to see this day because it is yet future, and there will be a physical temple in Jerusalem at that time.
The word that is translated into English as "house" in verses 1 and 2, is translated as "temple" elsewhere in the Old Testament. This occurs once in 2 Kings 11:10, three times in 2 Kings 11:11, once in 2 Kings 11:13, once in 1 Chronicles 6:10, once in 1 Chronicles 10:10, three times in 2 Chronicles 23:10, and once in 2 Chronicles 35:20 as can be verified here.

Furthermore, there are several Bible translations which use the word "temple" in these verses.
New International Version
In the last days the mountain of
the LORD’s temple will be established as the highest of the mountains; it will be exalted above the hills, and peoples will stream to it.
Contemporary English Version
In the future, the mountain with
the LORD's temple will be the highest of all. It will reach above the hills, and every nation will rush to it.
Good News Translation
In days to come the mountain where
the Temple stands will be the highest one of all, towering above all the hills. Many nations will come streaming to it,
International Standard Version
"But in the last days it will come about that
the Temple Mount of the LORD will be firmly set as the leading mountain. It will be exalted above its surrounding hills, and people will stream toward it.
NET Bible
In the future
the LORD's Temple Mount will be the most important mountain of all; it will be more prominent than other hills. People will stream to it.
New Heart English Bible
But in the latter days, it will happen that the mountain of
the LORD's temple will be established on the top of the mountains, and it will be exalted above the hills; and peoples will stream to it.
World English Bible
But in the latter days, it will happen that the mountain of
Yahweh’s temple will be established on the top of the mountains, and it will be exalted above the hills; and peoples will stream to it.
Additionally, there are several places in the New Testament where Jesus described the temple in Jerusalem as the Father's house, and here is but one of them.
Jhn 2:13
And the Jews' passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to
Jerusalem,
Jhn 2:14
And found in
the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:
Jhn 2:15
And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of
the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables;
Jhn 2:16
And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not
my Father's house an house of merchandise.
Jhn 2:17
And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of
thine house hath eaten me up.
Turning back to Micah's prophecy, this is what will transpire when this temple will stand in Mt. Zion in Jerusalem at Christ's return.
When Christ returns, he shall reign over this earth in Mount Zion in Jerusalem, and the first dominion, or the kingdom shall come to the daughter of Jerusalem. Unlike so many brainwashed people today, the believers of Jesus' day knew what was coming in the last days. For this reason, this is the last question that the disciples asked Jesus before he ascended back to the Father in heaven.
Act 1:6
When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying,
Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?
Act 1:7
And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
Act 1:8
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
The kingdom will ultimately be restored to Israel; even as Micah and others foretold under Divine inspiration. At that time, Jesus Christ will reign as King, and he will be seated upon the throne of his father David, as has also long been prophesied or foretold.
Anyhow, there will be a last days temple in Jerusalem.
