Hey Everyone,

* For the good or for the bad, what things have you tried, bought, or wanted because you saw it online?

* What places do you now want to go to/have gone to because you've saw other people do so online? Did it live up to the hype?

* What hobbies, games, hacks, recipes, sports, and interests have you started because of the internet? Were they worth your time and trouble?

This thread is meant to be a bit of an informal poll of things people have tried solely because of online influence -- and how it's turned out.

My own list includes:

* The discovery of the Drury line of hotels, which offer not only a free breakfast, but also a free dinner in the evening for pretty much the same price as any other hotels in the area. I was able to stay at one and will now always look to see if they have any in the areas I'll be visiting.

* @Tall_Timbers has raved about See's Candy so much, I've decided I simply MUST try them and am waiting for an opportunity... I've found a store about half an hour away, and I'm wondering if I'll be able to snag any bargains after Easter!

* A long time ago, our dear friend @Mem posted pictures of these adorable, warmable, stuffies that I have been eyeing them ever since, but just haven't taken the plunge yet:

* I must add that I am personally very thankful for online reviews. There are several things I've wanted to try or visit, but a plethora of bad reviews probably saved me a ton of wasted time, money, and heartache.

How about you?

* What have been some of your experiences with purchasing, visiting, or envying things online, whether good or bad?

In a time when there are so many negatives about social media and the internet, I'd like to think that maybe there are some positives out there, too. :)

I always told my dad for Christmas just get me a box of See's candies and you can't go wrong😋 They are delicious and have quite a variety of fillings. Also, beware of 'Temu' it is an addictive site. I've ordered vitamin supplements, nail files(don't), light bulbs(do), and various bits and bobs. We've ordered security lights and cams usually from Amazon and they've been good. As far as hacks go, I have a list of AI related sites to help do almost anything. A fun hack is when say a celeb is talking but you can't hear them, type in 'readmylips' and it will show what they're saying😂

Oh man, with TWO highly respected CC members talking up See's Candy, I'm afraid my treat budget -- and blood sugar levels -- are a goner!:cool::eek:

I have to admit I'm having a moral dilemma over Temu. I LOVE reading or trying new things for free (the library!) or for rock-bottom prices... However, I've listened to so many videos about bad business practices, dangerous substances in their products, and forced child labor when it comes to inexpensive sites (Temu, Wish, Shein, etc.) that I am torn. Now of course I realize pretty much EVERY business has shady practices (hello Nike -- with child slaves making your products,) but I also get a bit paralyzed because if I make every purchase a moral one, I'm pretty sure I'll never be able to buy anything!

It's interesting tome that you said the light bulbs are a do but the nail files are a don't. May I ask, what was wrong with them?

And I agree, those lip syncing videos are a hoot!

One of the funniest ones I've ever seen is of Luke Skywalker and Yoda, but it's "bad lip syncing" so they do a voiceover of a totally incorrect, but hilarious misinterpretation.

You brought up excellent points re these sites and another thing is the security risk, I read. I'll have to rethink before I order again, it's just so common for major store chains, like Walmart, to buy lesser quality items but cheaper from China. After I found out the frozen fish they sell is from China I couldn't buy it anymore. Some brands of spices are from China where they almost bleach out everything and redo it to make it look more appealing, yuck.
The nail files were a dozen but were so cheap the grain wears or falls of after one use. Gee, and I spent 99 cents for them, lol. Also I'm beginning to wonder how reliable their supplements are. I was trying to find out but it's hard to substantiate their quality. Sooo, I'll probably pray about it, all of it. Lord guide me here🙏😂

I don't think See's has discounted prices that I know of. A couple of times in my life they had some kind of special deal going for military members that I happened to come across, but that's about it. Get yourself to the store, a half hour isn't bad. They'll offer you one free chocolate. Choose wisely, and then fill up a box with what you think you'll like best as opposed to buying the boxes that are already packed. If you tell them Tall Timbers sent you, they'll just look at you cross-eyed.

You've reminded me that I've misplaced Hebert and how I wish I could remember what happened to him because, at first glance, I always see Pennywise when I see your Faberge egg.

I have never seen one advertisement, online or on TV back in the day, that made me want to buy anything.

They always hire terrible actors for advertisements, so I never can believe they actually enjoy what they are trying to sell.

I will mention that I have frequently got an advertisements for things that I have already bought.

Right now I am getting a flood of red pocket mobile ads. Like, duh! I'm using a red pocket account to get online and watch YouTube videos. Why would I need to see these advertisements for something I already have and I'm using to see the advertisements?

Oh no!!!

Hebert is missing?! We must send a search party out at once!

And, Ouch!!

How does a Faberge egg become associated with Pennywise?!!

I guess the white dome on top can be mistaken for his forehead?!

Uh oh.

I'm starting to suspect that Hebert isn't really "missing" at all.

I think he probably developed a crush on Veterinarian Barbie, and ran off with her! :cautious:o_O:love:

Ah well, at least he is in good hands. :p

Wow, I must be a lot more of a sucker than I even admit to being, because sometimes the corniness of the commercials is what made the product so appealing.

I remember the days we didn't have channels selling things 24/7 so infomercials were kind of a guilty pleasure of mine...

I maybe only bought what they were selling once or twice, but man -- 99% of the time, they had me CONVINCED that whatever they were demonstrating would make life so much easier!

It's that one hold-out of the 10 experts that often gives me enough pause to help and discourage me, unless it's one of those times that I just don't care what the crowd thinks, and I just have to have it.

Four out of five dentists agree... That the fifth one really needs to just chill out. I mean really, he disagrees with everything!

Come on now. You really didn't at least want to try the things that Billy Mays was hawking.
