I love spice, but not so much heat that you don't notice the flavor. I love using crushed red pepper and cayenne powder. Wasabi is delicious too. And sriracha.

@seoulsearch you're really making me want to try the Nashville hot chicken! I go to Nashville fairly often and have never had it lol.

I really like Thai food, but definitely don't get it full heat at a restaurant.
Oh I tried a hot sauce at a Jamaican restaurant recently and oh boy that was intense!

Speaking of spices and coffee because we should talk about these things.

There are times when I feel a little adventurous or bold, sometimes both, and add a little cardamom to my coffee. There are other times when I might add cloves, or all spice, or nutmeg. It depends on my mood at that moment. Lynx mentioned the cardamom at the last cc friends gathering and it does add interesting flavor to the coffee.

I ate a trinidad scorpion pepper right off the plant 2 years ago. I can think of more pleasant things haha
There's something enticing about fresh peppers that I wish I could just bite into them like bugs bunny on a carrot, if I didn't know any better. However, the closest I can approach doing such a thing is if they've first been pickled. So, I get some peppers and slice them up, throw them in a jar, fill it with vinegar, and then they go on everything, except cereal. There's something wrong about putting them in cereal but they are perfectly acceptable for cake decorating.

I recently topped my spaghetti with them, stabbing a pepper ring and rolling the noodles around them in order to insulate the heat from directly hitting right away. But every once in a while, when I reach the point that I can't resist their draw any longer, and just want to experience their 'snap,' I'll wrap a fresh, crisp, pepper in a cold cut of ham or baloney, preferably with milk at the ready.

I don't know about any of that scorpion stuff though. That's just sounds crazy.

I'm a big fan of the habanero pepper as it has a good flavor so makes a good base for hot sauces. The Carolina Reaper is derived from the habanero so it has the good flavor but must be used very sparingly. For chili, my preference is the ancho pepper. I use jalapenos in several different dishes, they're pretty much benign, similar to bell peppers, but have a unique flavor. I have several bottles of hot sauces. My favorite is El Yucateco red habanero. I keep a dozen or so bottles of that on hand because I go through it pretty quickly. Because I use it a lot, I need a lot more of it than I used to. One time at a restaurant there was a full bottle of El Yucateco on the table. I used 2/3's of it on the burrito I ordered. I use El Yucateco on things like burritos and tacos, tacquitos... For some reason when I make quesadillas I use Valentina's, which is a very mild but nicely flavored sauce. I also use Valentina's in some stir fry's. I mostly use my Carolina Reaper sauce in cooking. A couple of small drops will warm up a big pot of chili.

For reasons I don't understand, I've never had a hot sauce originating from Asia that I like the flavor of... though I favor the hot Chinese dishes that come with what appears to be dried chili peppers.

When I order chicken, when it's available I'll ask for the spicy version.

I usually grow a few plants of the hottest peppers in the world. Scorpion, primatori, reaper, I also do ghost and habanero. I pickle or dry the hottest ones mostly dry then turn them into powder. I will sometimes eat a super hot right off the plant. It always hurts. To the point you feel like you poured lava into your mouth. Snot is running eyes are watering ears are tingling. Its always a dumb idea but im not that smart lol.

I'm just slightly disappointed that with all the spicy things people here have said they'll take on, not a single person so far has said they were willing to take on my Grandma! :p

Truth be told, God called her home years ago, and as I think about it, I can't remember seeing her actually mad -- frustrated, yes, but not all-out furious -- and I'm sure I got more than a chunk of my spunk from her.

I bought i tube of plumping lip gloss once to discover the secret ingredient is hot pepper. Come to think of it, people that eat hot chilis do look like someone punched them in the mouth.

OOOOHHH, this is such a good point.

I love makeup, but my skin and eyes are so sensitive that all I can really use is foundation, blush, and lip products -- which I adore.

Fortunately, I haven't gotten sucked into the "I must make my lips look like I've been hitting them with a brick" look yet, but it's been a nasty shock to learn that I will probably have to avoid most new products due to this terrible phenomenon.

I'm too onery and too old to subscribe to the belief that beauty has to come with suffering!

Right now I'm drinking "Gingerbread" coffee from Starbucks. It's not my favorite flavor but you couldn't beat the after-holiday clearance price with a peppermint stick -- it was less than $4 for a 17-oz bag.

There's another company, Brooklyn Beans, that has a "Gingerbread Man" flavor that's one of my all-time faves, but this Starbucks one is a little too earthy for me.

However... with enough powdered milk and stevia, I can make most anything drinkable, and for that price, why not. ;)

I'm finally old enough to dare wear red, and my current favorite is called "Brave." Also, I don't know if it is from necessity or finally figuring out the correct technique to 'overlining,' which used to intimidate me seeing all the 'wrong' done with it, but there's no going around using lipliner anymore with the chili pepper palate of colors. Happily, it works just fine with no pain involved.

Habanero is my limit.

I know people that will eat peppers for no other reason than they are hot. It's like "look at me, I'm eating a very hot pepper".
But I just don't see the point if it has no flavor.
I'm actually real particular, especially with the sauces. People who know that I use a lot of hot sauce will gift me some hot sauce I've never had and more often than not I'll eventually toss it out because I don't care for the flavor. Or, I'll buy a different hot sauce to try and after I try it ends up in the trash. If I was smart (I'm not), I'd just stick with what I know I like... but I occasionally try something that is new to me.

Back when I was in the Air Force and got promoted to the next rank, I invited the people from my unit over for a shredded beef burrito lunch. I make some really delicious Mexican food and figured that would be a better treat than taking them to a restaurant. During the meal preparation I handled the habaneros as I chopped them up to add them to the pot... Then later it got pretty warm in the kitchen and I brushed my fingers beneath my eyes... Whoeee, my face below the eyes stung something fierce the rest of the day! Lesson learned.

The guy who developed the Carolina Reaper, Ed Currie, now has "Pepper X", I think he calls it that is supposed to now be the hottest. Don't think I'll ever bother to try and find it somewhere...

I always say I'm a whimp when it comes to spicy and if I'm offering you something spiced it probably is the sweet spices ( like cinnamon). Though there's this one cinnamon tea that's too spicy for me, have to add some milk to make it pleasant rather than pouring burning oil down your throat.

And yes I love horchata. and chai tea is pretty good too.

Yeah, seems like anything can be turned into an attention getting device.

My uncle can tolerate an amazing amount of pain... Er, I mean spice, but he has the same motto. If it's just hot food for the sake of hot, skip it. He likes it for the flavor.

Anything spicy is a winner in my book. 😅 I prefer the spiciest variety the tiny red Chili padi in my food. HOWEVER after moving from another country and starting a new diet I've avoided spicy food, especially since my husband is not a fan.
