Hey Everyone,

Here's something funny I've noticed on social media that I'm sure you've all seen as well.

People will pick a very specific username that seemingly states a very specific fact about themselves.

For example:

"JohnnyHatesJazz" (Raise a hand if you remember the band!)

"IanFromItaly"

"EscapedFromNewYork"

And of course, the example from our thread title, "BethHatesBlue."

But the thing is, those very same people then get constantly annoyed and angry at all the people who ask them about the very thing their username blatantly says:

"Argh, why does everyone ask why I hate jazz?! Who cares?!"

"Yeah, I'm from Italy, but I'd rather not discuss it!"

"No, it's none of your business why I left New York, so don't ask!"

"GAH!!! Why does everyone have to ASK why I hate the color blue?? It's just a name, get over it!"

I'm sorry, but...

Now of course, I believe everyone has a right to choose their own username for their own reasons.

But why in the hip hoppin' hee haw do people pick names like that -- and then become utterly enraged when others ask about them?!!

This truly puzzles me. It would be like me getting mad at people for asking why my username is Seoulsearch (although, I DO admit to being highly amused by the ones who've told me, "You know, you spelled 'soul' wrong in your name."):geek::whistle:

And so, I must ask our wise, intrepid CC audience!

Why do people pick usernames that clearly say something, but then go off the rails when other literate site users have the audacity to ask them questions about it??!

What do YOU think?

Well if they give themselves that kind of username, they were asking for it! 🤭

I'm in a couple of Discord chats (and since it's Discord, that should explain it all, but...) it really is amazing to me how many people get upset at being asked about things THEY chose to say about themselves!!!

Oh, to be young and energetic enough to be able to get mad about absolutely everything!:ROFL:

If they really hated people asking that all the time, wouldn't they change their nick?

I have concluded they must like the attention. Either they complain about the irritation because they feel it is something people expect - kind of like Garfield complaining about Monday - or they really are irritated but not quite enough to bother changing the nick.

Either way, it's not serious enough for them to bother doing anything about so I acknowledge they are the way they are and move on.

It's definitely a conversation starter, but perhaps these people are pessimistic and want something to argue about? At least we know they are unsaved, so there is that.

I've seen this on Christian sites (this site included,) so it's definitely not just an "unsaved" phenomenon, which makes it all the more confusing (to me, at least, but I'm a bit slow.) :)

Yeah, that's what also puzzles me...

But as I was telling Daisy, I've seen it here too. People stating something in their username and then saying, "Don't ask me about (what I clearly state in my name.)"

It's positively baffling.

You bring up a good point about that attention factor.
