We all agree there were spiritual gifts of prophesying, tongues, etc. at this time and 1Cor. 14 regulates those as they take place in the church. Women did prophesy, but not in public worship. See verse 34. These gifts and miraculous signs were temporary. ( See 1 Cor. 13:8-10. ) until the completed perfect word of God (Bible). They all “ceased”. That’s why Hebrews says “in time past” God spoke in dreams, visions, etc, BUT NOW, it’s different. God has only promised to speak through His word. So, yes, the prophesy of Joel in Acts 2 has been fulfilled.
I don’t know of any man I have “usurped” authority from. My post to Edith was to a woman—not a man. Are there positions of authority on this thread? I don’t know of any. Priscilla helped teach Apollo’s in a non-church situation. Acts 18.
Hi Beckworth, I'm not trying to drag you back into the thread but I figured an answer is in order. I completely agree that we are now living in the Last Days, and have been for about 2,000 years. But I disagree that 1 cor. 13: 10 has come to pass already. There is nothing in that passage indicating "that which is perfect" refers to the Bible; assuming so is quite the logical leap. The Bible wasn't even available to the common man until about 500 years ago. And if you were to read on to the conclusion of the chapter, it says those things won't be needed once we "know as we are known". If you can tell me how many hairs on your head I'm all ears, because Jesus knows..... we do not yet know like that.
You won't convince me that the gifts have ceased because I have seen them in action, and it is marvelous to behold. If you feel the Devil can still do supernatural works then I don't see why you think God can't; His arm will not be shortened.
As far as "usurping authority" goes, only the moderators have any official authority here. I'm very thankful you are not among them. I'm thankful I am not either. But we do have actual pastors here, true ministers of the word of God who follow His direction to pray for the sick, comfort the weary, encourage the downtrodden and minister His word in accordance with James 3: 17 . The day I see you doing ANY of that, I will start taking you more seriously. But so far I have only seen you argue and condemn. The fact that you use out-of- context scripture to do so is irrelevant; arguably worse.
But I am sorry that you have been hurt by name-calling. I agree it's not necessary. There are members here whose wisdom would be more powerful if they refrained from that.
Anyways.... my issues with you have nothing to do with your opinion on women and leadership. My own pastor would probably never allow a woman to preach a sermon, and I respect that.
My issue with you is that your behavior on this site is VASTLY different from the way you say a woman should behave in a public assembly. We have "private messaging" here for a reason.... anything you post on the forums IS public, like it or not. And the early church often assembled in private homes, so that argument doesn't hold water either.
I wish you all the best, I hope you know that I'm not trying to make you feel bad. It's fine if we disagree. The difference seems to be that if I disagree with you I'm going to hell, whereas if you disagree with me I'm also going to hell. Same for the male members too; you claim all men are above women, but when a man disagrees with you he's hearing from the devil. I'd be curious to know if you've ever actually learned anything from a man on this site. I have learned much.
Best-
Nichole
