Jesus said on the Cross, "IT IS FINISHED." John 19:228-30

This term in Greek signifies that a Debt has been paid. All Past, Present, and Future debt has been paid. Jesus paid the debt so that we can believe in Him and receive salvation, as Jesus said in John 3:16.

I personally and sincerely believe that water baptism is for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38) but I would never consider adding such a definitive as "only" into the meaning of the verse.

Acts 2:38 and 22:16 tells us how to get rid of our sins, but that is just a part of being reborn. Can't enter Heaven with sins.
