I don't have ANYTHING to worry about in this regard. We have a zealous police department in my tiny town in the middle of nowhere.
Having foreign plates (from the surrounding counties) is reason enough to get pulled over here. Residents get a pass....especially when you live just off the city Square about two blocks from the station house and jail.

GBI is a neighbor and a city council member. Then as I'm going to bed at night the retired baker across the street is getting up. Other neighbors might not light up their house but they sit outside at night....drinking coffee, tea, beer, or whatever.

It's a bedroom community.
Of course EVERYONE knows everything about me...including bowel movements without my saying a word. Gotta love the small towns.

Someone broke into my friend's house during the day and took her antique cherry dinette set. Nothing else. This was over 10 years ago and it was never recovered.
That's because it's sitting in someone's dining room.....probably a "friend".

I have a sign on my door that says--
Before you break-in my house, get right with Jesus and tell Him you are on your way because your body will be carried out.
We have guns, know how to use them, and will use them to protect ourselves and what is ours.
There is also a very large dog inside the fenced yard that is very protective of his family.
Sign on my gate post. "We shoot every third stranger. The second one just left."
I would think that would be the best sign. That actually might be a very good deterrent. I was surprised to to hear...

1. A few classes and crime prevention instructors said that the knowledge of a firearm in the house was a desirable item and attracts thieves. Those are easy to pawn anywhere and high dollar items.

2. A few thieves in prisons were interviewed and said that guns and cash were their favorite things to steal.

3. I have cameras set up outside and a sign at each entrance warning of the security system.

4. I don't think the last break in after midnight read the signs.
If the criminals don't think someone is home, it's a temptation to tell them that you own weapons it seems. On the other hand, some are desperate druggies that have dulled senses and don't even notice signs it seems.
I'm not saying what's right for others. I was surprised to learn that though.

5. One thing they often do is to knock on the door. If nobody answers they assume nobody is home. If you answer they make up a story.

Your probably right. It's an uncommon thing to steal, heavy, bulky and hard to sell for good money quick. It was likely a visitor.

I've had a group of suspicious young men show up at my house to answer an ad for a car I had for sale. They took it across the road and parked it a long time, returned and asked to talk about it in my living room. Then they had no questions or discussion about the car as if they were here for my stereo system as they looked around the room. They asked what it was worth so I relaxed and realized they were there for a daytime robbery.

in the south, out in the country, home invasion robberies are rare for just those reasons..

First, any person that wants to invade my home would have to get past a very big and vicious dog and that is very unlikely. Plus when there is no one at home, all guns are in a gun safe.

Excellent!
There's at least 3 layers of protection then.
Barrier to entering, big vicious dog and another barrier.

Yours is probably a lot better than those dog in the first video. He was like the greeting committee for visitors. 😄 🐕

I know the value of a good dog like that.
I used to train dogs for personal protection of their wealthy owners.
Those Rotties were major power and had to be completely controllable, safe around children, delivery men, catered parties with crowds of strangers in their turf.

Here's two videos that show how most dogs perform under stress.

I've only had a break-in in my car actually. Only once in almost 30 years. And it happened because i left it in an unlit area, which was known to be kind of shady. It was a hospital area actually.
They broke the glass and left the car because it was manual shift. I laughed when i saw this actually.
A thief who can't even drive a manual car so he can steal it. lol
Aww, those Americans who don’t know how to drive with a stick lol.
