Have you taken the time to learn enough biblical Greek and Hebrew to be able to judge whether your Bible translations are accurately presenting God's word?

I know you're not asking me that question, but I trust God to speak to me through the Bible as I read and study it. He chooses the translation that will best explain whatever He wants to teach me, so I don't just stick with one translation.

It is true that there are some things that are hard to understand but that is what the holy spirit is for
Is it harder for the Holy Spirit to sort out for readers on CC what is a Bible quote or reference and what is the poster's own thoughts, than it is for Him to sort out for readers of a Bible what is God's intended message and what is the translators' own thoughts?

Do you respect the Word of God enough that you will always see to it that you do your very best to make sure that your every presentation of bible verses is done in the most clean-and-clear neat God-honoring manner possible?

Or, do you just throw it around carelessly as if it is not any more important or special than any other wording that you might put in your posts.

I have noticed that many on here are quite sloppy with their presentation of bible verses.

Why is that? Are you just lazy or what?

Why would you not want to make sure that book names along with chapter and verse numbers are always present and having the full correct spelling of names and properly positioned-and-spaced numbers?

A verse number should never be found jammed together with the verse text. Proper spacing is important to the cadence of reading the text.

And, if you do not see the importance of providing some kind of separation between bible verses and what you are saying - you need to do some critical self-examination. Seriously.

I cringe when I see people run bible verses and whatever they are saying together without any form of separation whatsoever. No putting comments about verses in parentheses. (Or, at least, offset by some reasonable means.) No line spacing. No anything. Just run together - one sentence is a bible verse and the next one is their added comments. And, the next one is a bible verse. Embedded comments with no indication that they are not part of what should be a reading of the Word of God. This should never occur.

How you present the Word of God in your posts tells me a lot about the true nature of your approach to the Word of God.

If the Word of God is really-and-truly special to you - you will always do your best to give it special treatment in your posts - making it "set apart" from everything else and "lifted up" above it.

When you throw it around like you copied-and-pasted it from a garbage dump - well - that says something about you... ;)

( Don't bother to try to "teach" me something from the Word of God if you cannot even present it properly in your posts. )

Some folk see Christian Forums as a chat site so they don't bother too much with grammar.

Some folk do not have the educational background to accomplish that task.

Some are using their phone and the detail in their grammar is laborious.

You may be asking too much of everyone.

One thing that must be seriously addressed is quoting sources.

If you copy and paste quote the source!

Imagine living back in OT/NT times when scripture was written without word spacing, punctuation, and paragraphs. Just a big wall of text.

Is it harder for the Holy Spirit to sort out for readers on CC what is a Bible quote or reference and what is the poster's own thoughts, than it is for Him to sort out for readers of a Bible what is God's intended message and what is the translators' own thoughts?
Good question certainly one to ponder

In the past I've tried to get people to understand this; with most, it's a futile effort. Some have never been taught how to present their ideas clearly; others, I think, do it for attention; and others simply can't help themselves for whatever reason. I finally had to start ignoring people who do this. Chaotic posts reflect a chaotic mind and are a bit unsettling.
(y)

Another trend that really irritates me is posting every sentence on a new line. I don't know who came up with this or where it started, but I can't read them, it's too aggravating and too hard to follow. It's like every new line is a new thought.
In a way, you hit the nail on the head. I often do it with the purpose and the hope that the reader will actually carefully consider each "new thought" in a progression of thought while reading the post - instead of just speed-reading past it all and not really taking any of it in...

Yes Sir,

Respect is a good word to use, if we respect it we will keep our on opinion out of it period.

Why do so many people take HIS word and modified to suit their needs?

When we are warned against it!

Revelation 22:18-19
18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

How many men have twisted HIS word and sill call it the Holy Bible, they don't know, if a man alerted it they are now following THAT man!

Respect, I myself can't even use a marker to highlight scripture in HIS word it's like Holy Ground to me. I have no issue with people who do, it's just me.

Where would we be if everyone respected it and OBEYED it?

We would be like the 120 in the upper room.

Acts 2:1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

Why so many different denominations today?

If there was only one Satan would not have the foot hold on this earth as he does.

On the day of Pentecost HIS disciples were all brothers and sisters untied together with one thing on there mind, JESUS.

Acts 2: And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Respect NOT ONLY for the way we share it BUT RESPECT FOR THE WORD ITSELF.

What to respect it? Don't say something is true when it's not!

For instance I say, the only way to get rid of our sins is to be baptized in JESUS name.

Without backing that up with GOD'S word it's my opinion and my word not HIS.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Acts 22:16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

Now we have established what I say was true if I could not it's a lie from Satan himself, and I would be held accountable for it.

We will be held accountable for EVERY word out of our mouth, I'm so confused why people just say what they like and can't back it up with HIS word and think they are not only going to Heaven but OK with JESUS.

Respect, we need to be humble as little children remember why Satan was kicked out of Heaven.

Pride.

Question are you ok, with how I did this.

I want thing to be simple and clear, I don't want to be disrespectful at all.
Yes - nice-and-neat is always better than sloppy - sloppy (when out of apathy or carelessness) is disrespectful.

While I see your point and generally agree with you, I have to ask: where are these rules in Scripture?

In other words, what you have presented is a set of rules that you have developed for yourself and think everyone should follow them. You have nothing but your opinion to back it up. Even if you could cite a few sources in books, these rules would be the opinions of those authors and not Scripture.

Though you have framed this as a moral issue, it isn’t. The conclusions you draw about others are simply your own pride (or indignation) at work. You could, with equal authority, state that everyone should quote only the KJV… with predictable results.
The "rules" that you speak of should exist in the conscience of anyone who has any respect for the Word of God and has a desire to present the Word of God in as God-honoring a way that they can within the context of the features and limitations of the platform where it is to be presented.

I believe there are principles contained within scripture that work to make it a matter of conscience.

If you want an actual verse of scripture, begin with this one:

1 Corinthians 14:

40 Let all things be done decently and in order.

If you think about it for a while, I am pretty sure you can apply this verse to the thread topic.

And, it is not just about honoring God - it is also about being willing to make an effort to help the reader.

The 'presentation' will affect the aesthetics and readability of the words posted - positively or negatively.

I am not looking for 'perfection' - 'reasonable' is good; however, some of what I have seen is considerably less. :(

Your OP does not very clearly express what you wish to convey, and is a bit chaotic.
Proof that Magenta has me on ignore... :geek: :giggle:

She could not see the first two posts and thought @ResidentAlien started the thread. However, she probably should have been able to see that his post was #3.

Interesting side-effect of the 'ignore' feature.

Every fallible opinion regarding GW is just that.
We walk by faith, not by sight per 2Cor. 5:7.

I LOVE GW!

"From childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation
through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction,
and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work."
(2Tim. 3:15-17)

So glad you love HIS WORD, but you love your more.

You are avoiding backing up what comes out of your mouth with HIS WORD.

I'm going to keep asking you, I'm not going away.

Show me your good works.

Your comments #1,082 in your thread "The Kerygma - God's Requirement for Salvation"

Regarding speaking in tongues, the original occurrence at Pentecost (in Acts 2:4-11) was earthly languages given as a sign of reversing Babel for the purpose of evangelism, but by the time of its occurrence in the church at Corinth it had morphed into mere babble, which Paul tried to quash tactfully (1Cor. 14:19), possibly because even pagan religions practiced it. Again, the purpose of the original gift at Pentecost and for a while longer was to fulfill prophecy and ensure the planting of the first Christian church, but that gift apparently ceased after the apostolic era (1Cor. 13:8-13) and was perverted by some into a faux gift of mere babbling, so one should not be myopic and focus only on a problematic proof-text (1Cor. 14:18-20).

Explain what you mean by this of course back it up with HIS word.

I broke it down because there is a lot to explain.

1. Regarding speaking in tongues, the original occurrence at Pentecost (in Acts 2:4-11) was earthly languages given as a sign of reversing Babel for the purpose of evangelism,

2. but by the time of its occurrence in the church at Corinth it had morphed into mere babble, which Paul tried to quash tactfully (1Cor. 14:19), possibly because even pagan religions practiced it.

4. so one should not be myopic and focus only on a problematic proof-text (1Cor. 14:18-20).

As a bonus you can back up what else you said and claim it to be true.
You said.
1. When you get the Holy Ghost you get love.
2. Spirit baptism replaces water baptism.

Jude 1:9

So Jude 9 makes all of your statements true??

Jude 9 Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.

Again, I don't necessarily disagree with your motivation, but you're still trying to make "rules" where none exist.

"Let all things be done decently and in order" was written in the context of using spiritual gifts, not in the context of presenting quotations from Scripture.

So, instead of making an argument that there is some moral justification for doing things the way you think they should be done, just do them yourself. People will either see the value or they won't. I honestly suspect most people don't care about this nearly as much as you do, and it has nothing to do with "respecting the word of God" but rather... that's just not how they are built.

I have a desktop and a key board and do get my share of typos and stuff because I can't type good. I can't imagine doing all this on a phone! Usually I'll fix them if I see them but stopped proofreading myself so much because prolly wouldn't make a difference anyway.

I don't have as much a problem with proper etiquette as I do with those quoting scripture properly & using it as a weapon with a bad attitude. Such people, regardless of accuracy give the Word(Christ) a bad name.

People with a bad attitude are inaccurately named Christian! (Matt. 7:21)

Thank you for brining this up Gary and I get you.
It’s similar to what I mentioned here:
https://christianchat.com/miscellaneous/workplace.216263/page-4#post-5526509

I keep mentioning writing etiquette every chance I get so thank you for bringing it up.
Thank you very much for saying so! I am glad that someone "gets me" (understands my POV) on this topic. :)

With regard to your post on the other thread - that is just a side-effect of the "dumbing-down" of society... :(

And, to your next post after that one - it is a shame that 'chat' environments have become the "lowest common denominator" that seems to be affecting all other forms of communication.
