Attack on Nine Substations Could Take Down U.S. Grid

There are more than 55 000 transmission substations in the United States, but an attack on less than 10 could plunge the entire nation into darkness, according to a study by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) that was obtained by the Wall Street Journal.

According to people familiar with the report, the Wall St. Journal reported that just nine substations could take down the transmission grid for the entire country. Currently there are no regulations that require protection for key substations, but that could change.

Earlier this month, FERC directed the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) to develop reliability standards for grid operators to address physical security threats.

“Today's order enhances the grid’s resilience by requiring physical security for the facilities most critical to the reliable operation of the Bulk-Power System,” FERC Acting Chairman Cheryl LaFleur said in a statement. “It will complement the ongoing efforts of FERC and facility owners and operators to ensure the physical security of the grid.”

Oh I'm very familiar with the theory and knew what you were talking about right away. When I was young and green I thought the same plot here too with a little extra flair even, basically the Grid-Down Plot. It is well known and discussed and this is not the best way to achieve it and Katherine Tweed is too paranoid and underestimates US like way way too much. It is accomplishable, but not by like some pagan thugs from Venezuela lol, you would need an EMP to do it.

But just for fun let's say it did happen and not go down the full rabbithole to the Conspiracy Theory section, but put a relevant to the topical toe in it just to show we got contingency plans. Have more faith, we shall win, we shall survive, praise Jesus.

Perhaps it isn't the best way but certainly the cheapest. A single bullet into the radiator was able to shut down a substation. You can buy a bullet for $1.

Lol oh man I wish I could find a meme to portray the mental image of a pack of Venezuelan pagan savages armed with hammers and small arms trying to bring down all USA electricity, literally the most sophisticated and greatest energy grid ever devised.

Venezuela will be better off putting their necks into the yoke of iron forged in Heaven and getting rid of Satan's very most incompetent servant Maduro. How Maduro holds the ignominy for being so worthless and so stupid that literally he can be replaced with anyone, literally anyone in Venezuela is smarter than him. I mean this guy seriously destroyed his own society and economy and brought so much misery to his own people in ways that before were not even thought possible. Then he thought he could fight America and it's time he FAFO a little too far, praise Jesus.

Well between war and subterfuge let us take a moment to examine peace. It seems the opposition leader of Venezuela will take home the Nobel Peace Prize, a subplot of late in other topics, I figure I'll just post the tidbit here. Though I think Trump put in more real effort, it's an interesting choice nonetheless at an interesting moment. May God protect her from bumbling evil Maduro and his impending crashout, and if she is strong enough may she take his place and revitalize her land, praise Jesus.

The weapon Russia just used appears to be a special weapon used for destroying a power plant and frying the transformers. It is likely that Kyiv will be in a blackout for months if not years. Without electricity the people will die. It is not simply for heat and light. You need to pump water, without that they will die of various diseases. Without refrigeration the food you can eat is greatly reduced. Without electricity and pumps you will soon see cars and trucks and trains grind to a halt and without transportation you will not have coal or fire wood or any other way to cook your food. No running water, no refrigeration, no cooking of food.

This is basically what they can do to the US, a hundred military men with rifles could take down our grid ten time over. Once the power is out, lights are off and chaos reigns it is easy to then go into the substations and sabotage them so they can't be fixed.

Yea I suspect that would be the bigger threat to yesterday's topic of the Grid Down Plot than some jungle savages with small arms. Nevertheless we can not allow Russia to attack US, this is just then another strand then in the argument to just pre-emptively nuke them. They're willing to use now EMP weaponry on Ukraine, that means they're willing to do it on US, we should just nuke them now and totally survive while they totally die, and we praise Jesus.

@ZNP Well old buddy someone's Grid Down Plot just happened, and it wasn't US praise Jesus.


Not by small arms savage partisans nor by EMP, but just good old conventional high tech missiles, the happy medium I guess between the two technological extremes needed to accomplish the scenario.
