Rev 3:3, “If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come upon thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.”
Rev 16:15, “Behold I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame."
I Thes 5:2-3, “For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they say, peace and safety, then sudden destruction cometh upon them.”
Why does Jesus give this warning? Many are misled that Jesus can appear at any moment to gather them together prior to the tribulation of Antichrist (Satan.) They are not taught that Satan will come first, BEFORE Jesus, claiming to be God, II Thes 2:3-4. When Satan (the dragon) comes, he will do great wonders and miracles to deceive the people into worshiping him convincing them he is God, Rev 13:11-14. If you are not aware that Satan comes first, you are ripe for deception and may fall away from the true God in error.
So why does Jesus warn that he will come as a thief in the night? If you think Jesus has already returned to earth, you will not be looking for his return. You will be worshiping Satan deceived into thinking he is God. Jesus returns AFTER the working of Satan II Thes 2:9. Notice that in Rev 16:12-16, when the 6th vial is poured out you see the appearance of unclean spirits and devils going out to deceive the world. This is Satan, the son of perdition, as Antichrist and his fallen angels written of in Rev 12:7-9. AFTER their appearance, Jesus warns in Rev 16:15 that he will come as a thief, (because no one is expecting him to come. They think he is already here.)
Know that Satan will come first and that God's elect will make a stand against him to expose him as an impostor, with the Holy Spirit speaking through them, Math 10:16-20. Don't let Jesus find you worshiping Satan upon his return. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth for some. due to their shame and embarrassment of allowing themselves to be deceived. Be a watchman and watch. You escape the hour of temptation simply by knowing the truth, that Satan comes first and is a phony.
