Do you agree with the Vines definition of pisteuo? "A personal surrender to Him and a life inspired by such surrender.?
Jay
I don't consider the word surrender to be an accurate description of what I experienced when I got saved. I'm sure it has its place, but it doesn't do much for me personally. I can't say why, but if something comes to me I'll respond back

I think I don't like the term surrender because it has war conotations, and I don't consider myself at war with God. However, I've recently simply given up on something that I don"t know how to handle with the attitude that he can do with me whatever he wants. So I guess that in essence is the same thing

The Greek uses military terms alot in scripture.

For me, it is exactly as you stated , an enemy of God. He had His foot on my neck on the battlefield demanding a choice of which one to surrender my life to. I chose Him.

I have the accual texts of the New Strongs expanded, and the Vines expository of NT words,

Faithe, faithing, and faither, are just what i think the English should have had for the translators. Maybe if those words were available the defintion would have been better communicated. Pisteuo has trouble being communicated with a single word. The word believe is only mentioned in my Vines text where it states" all this stands in "contrast" to belief in it's purely natural exercise, which consists of an opinion held in good faith without the necessary reference of its proof.

I won't take off the table that the mistranslated state of "believing" couldn't grow into a surrendered life, fulfilling the mandate, "through Faith." But the majority of the called out ones of today are being mislead by a doctrine of "believe and recieve." IMO.

My opinion includes what happens when a called out one continually surrendered their life to the anointed messiah everyday. And thats where my tools of persuasion have to end.

thanks Jay

OK. Since you have those resources, I'll assume you copied and quoted verbatim unless you say otherwise. I don't have or use either of them and did look at the Vine's version I linked you to in order to find his statement re: "surrender".

Your thoughts re: what the English should have been are completely understood. There are teachings that share your opinion and the words you propose. I've read some of them and I understand why you and they think as you seem to.

English translation is not always simple from Greek and English unfortunately doesn't have the words you propose. These Greek cognates and the Hebrews words the LXX attaches them to are an example of words that God's Word explains and defines, so I study to see what He says. One of the Hebrew words has a base meaning of "commitment" which is not far from "surrender" but, as you've noted, not like "believe".

I think we'd find that we share substantial agreement in what you're saying about Biblical pisteuo and pistis.

I'm so glad to hear that studier. I can count on one hand the people that are on the same page with me on what Faith is, applied.

I hope we can keep this discussion going. I'll be back on in the am. I've got alot more to put on the table for you to test for me.

Obedience is a completely different Greek word. Hupakoe used 11 times, hupakouo used 2 times, hupotasso used 1 time, hupekoos used 2 times,

The Greek language is the most precise languages on the planet.

And what happens when they're used in apposition, or as one being descriptive of the other, or if they're used interchangeably in the Text, or when other Greek words that mean "disobey" are used in the same way?

It might be best for discussion if you let me know what your background is re: Greek. I've already asked you who your [bible] instructor is or was.

Rom5:10; James4:4; Col1:21 - from what I read from you, I'd agree with you about your not being at war with God, but we all were, and maybe still are at times and in ways that He's still working out of us - your "However" statement?

Is that a good or a bad thing.

My instructor was teaching that in the 60's.

he was a fine preacher, a mild sort of man. interesting thing about him: i don't quite know how the story goes but something like his aunt was the mother of bonnie of bonnie & clyde! yes, true story.

Who's your instructor?

In 1987 at 28 years old i had an experience, I'll just say it was a text book born again experience. The spiritual awakening, the conscious contact with God, and more that i don't share.

Experiencing that, i had this burning desire to know what happened, and how it happened. So i started to listen to every bible teacher i could find. It didn't take long before i ran across a bible teacher that was validating my experience to the tee, the only one!

So i looked into him and found he wasn't just a teacher, but a teachers teacher. Regarded by many to be the greatest bible teacher of our time. Stanford grad, Stanford prop, fluent in teaching all the ancient languages, and had amassed the largest bible collection in private hands behind the Vatican, and that's what he taught from. I was very happy to have this validation by such a prominent teacher.

His name is Dr. Gene Scott. He is where i learned about the A,B,C,s of Faith. and where i learned of the mistranslation of pisteuo, and the words believe, believer, and believing. He graduated in 05, and passed his mantle onto his wife Dr. Dr. Melissa Scott, who in her own right can run circles around any pastor of our time.

It took me about 20 years to know his teaching maybe better than he did, at least concerning Faith and faithing.

He taught that Jesus was the first goer of Faith. Then, their was a second goer, then a third, and so on. I like to think i'm standing on his shoulders to get a better look at Jesus than even he did.

I'll wait studier, to see if this is a problem for you before i spend anymore time discussing Faith and faithing with you.

Satan has done a number online concerning Dr. Scott. i need to know if you can get passed that first.

We can discuss "obedience" after we get a good understanding of Faith and faithing, which we've already begun. Then i'll share the process in which pisteuo (faithing) is applied in what i call the salvation process. All the things that must happen in the salvation journey, and happen in the right order.

If we get a consensus on that, we can then talk about where obedience fits in.
Looking forward to talking with you.
