Gardening makes me wonder if there's work in the kingdom other than those things that you love to do.
It occurs to me that Gen3:19's "By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground..." seems more like it would be more of a blessing to me, personally. Perhaps this is why I'm kept from any provision for that 'luxury.' :cry:

I learned that citrus like adequate watering but don't like wet feet so they are a lot like orchids in that way. So, I mixed a bit of sand into the citrus blend potting soil for drainage, using a clay pot, and adjusted the watering routine to a generous watering but then leaving it to completely dry out before I offer the next watering. I also added a small desk fan for air circulation and to it nudges it's working to sturdy up its trunk. Even though I bought it to for its leaves to use in cooking, it'll be a few years before I see any fruit. By that time, maybe I'll be skilled enough to raise more new trees. There doesn't seem to be any available locally.

A watering tip for those who like to raise potted plants. Stick index finger into the plant's soil. If it is dry when you pull it out, it's time to water.

I subscribed to Sheffield Made Plants, figuring that I live in a climate, and he recommends a moisture meter so, I'm going to eventually purchase a moisture meter.

The change in season finds me impatient for the growing season so I went into Walmart's garden center while it is still being prepped and found a hoya crimson princess. This season I'm focusing more on scented blooms. I asked my daughter to keep a look out for its native neofinetia falcata while she is vacationing in Japan.

I LOVE the Sheffield Made Plants channel... He also has a Sheffield Made Gardens channel with his wife, in which they showcase all their outdoor gardening.

He has an awesome sense of humor and, the accents!!! ❤️ Those wonderful UK accents!!

I bought a meter that's supposed to give you readings for water, light, and PH. It's really eye-opening because even a bright light will barely register on the light meter, and then you realize why your plants are struggling. :(

I'm a bit sad that I won't be able to grow or start anything other what I already have this year (I have some things coming up that will prevent me from looking after more plants.)

I've been thinking of starting a new, updated Gardening Thread specifically for 2026 since this one has become too long to keep up with, but I'm not sure if people would be interested in an additional gardening thread.

I had to sort through the thread to locate this once again, so maybe a general gardening thread may be a good idea. I remember one that'd could be counted on to chime in on a gardening topic, but I can't recall now exactly if it was a chatter or a blogger as all the years on are fleeting and feel like two days all together. And, if it were all from the same thread I could go back and be reminded. I remember avatars more than I do the chat handles and even those vaguely until I see them again. It's funny that I remember people as park benches and things like that sort. I am like, 'do you remember that chihuahua with the bowtie?" when everyone else is like, "What...?" :LOL:

As God clothes the lilies, He surely concerns Himself with tending much more to your care. Be stressed for nothing neither snow nor rain or sunshine. 🌸💕
 
my blueberries didnt fare well through our wet winter so im focusing more on my strawberries that are more winter hardy.apart from that just keeping the garden tidy.the slugs and snails ravish everything here so i dont bother so much now.

I search snail and slug control, and I wouldn't bother so much either as the primary recommendation is 'handpicking.' ...Bleck!

Maybe you could put a dish of cat food out to lure them away, they seem to be attracted to Pearl's. And cat food is what Sponge Bob SquarePants feeds his pet snail, Gary.

There was also mention of shallow beer traps are effective in attracting and drowning 20-50 at a time (do they get drunk?). And also, they can't cross copper lines. That is interesting. I did not know that. :unsure:


I like the option of using ducks and chickens, but I don't have any. 🫤
 
I haven't updated my gardening blog in a while as so much is happening this time of year - autumn is the harvest season. Everyone has feijoas.

It's the fruit that keeps on giving, and giving, until you are heartily sick of them lol. You give them away, only to be given MORE feijoas by everyone else.
