A person who is following the Holy Spirit will intuitively understand what is right and wrong. However, the testimony of truth recorded in the written word acts as yet another witness to what is true. In this way, the word and the spirit agree.
This is what the Holy Spirit convicts on
John 16:8 And when He has come, He will
convict the world of sin, and of
righteousness, and of
judgment:
This leads us back to what Jesus taught and why its so important.
The Holy Spirit is what wrote the Ten Commandments
Exo31:18 the finger of God is the Spirit of the living God and I can show this to you in NT Scripture. God spoke the Ten Commandments- the Holy Spirit wrote it on stone and in the NC wrote the Ten Commandments in our hearts and minds. Why Jesus said plainly not a jot or tittle- which means not something as small as a dot of an i or cross of a t can pass from the law of God because its purely written by God Himself. So changing and removing an entire commandment forgetting what God said Remember- its not a doctrine coming from God.
Dan7:25
Mat: 18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. 19
Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches
them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
The Holy Spirit convicts of sin.
Sin is:
1 John 3:4 Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness,
and sin is lawlessness.
James 2:11-12 For
He who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” Now if you do not commit adultery, but you do murder,
you have become a transgressor of the law. quoting and contrasting directly from the Ten Commandments breaking one we break them all
Rom 7:7 What shall we say then?
Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary
, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, “You shall not covet.”
The Holy Spirit convicts on righteousness (right doing)
Which is:
Psa 119:172 My tongue shall speak of Your word,
For all Your commandments are righteousness.
And includes the 4th commandment
56
Thus says the Lord:
Isa 56:1
“Keep justice, and do righteousness,
For My salvation
is about to come,
And My righteousness to be revealed.
2
Blessed is the man who does this,
And the son of man
who lays hold on it;
Who keeps from defiling
the Sabbath,
And keeps his hand from doing any evil.”
Because His righteousness is everlasting
Psa 119:142
Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness,
And Your law
is truth.
Its the foundation of God's Throne
Psa 89:14 Righteousness and justice
are the foundation of Your throne;
Mercy and truth go before Your face.
The Holy Spirit convicts us on Judgement:
John 12:48 He who rejects Me,
and does not receive My words, has that which judges him—the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.
James 2:11 ;For He who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” (quoting the Ten Commandments breaking one we break them all) Now if you do not commit adultery, but you do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law. 12 So speak and so do as those who will be judged by the law of liberty.
Why only the Ten Commandments is under the mercy seat of God Exo25:21 in heaven Rev15:5 Rev11:19 and we see the ark of God's covenant that holds the Ten Commandments at the last trumpet the standard of which God will judge all people Rev11:18-19
Why the devil is constantly attacking the law of God especially the 4th commandment- the commandment that He tells us how we join ourselves to Him and serve Him Isa 56:6 whoever we obey is who we serve Rom6:16 why the deception is so strong because the majority are doing something else- just as Jesus said would happen. Rev12:17 Mat7:13-14 despite His clear words on this subject matter- even personally written out by God Himself.
