Hebrews 3 uses unbelief, disobedience rebellion and sin all interchangeable.

The commandments of God is God's works, keeping them is trusting in His saving works Exo32:16 doing something else is trusting in our own works. What He does is forever Ecc3:14 we can't add or subtract from them because we are not God.

Believing in Christ means obeying Him.

John 3:36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.

Belief and obey are used interchangeable in Scripture. Anyone can say LORD LORD but do we have faith in what He asks Isa 56:6 over following what's popular with man.

When you actually strip away all the layers of human tradition and religious rule making that have built up around the Sabbath over thousands of years what you find underneath is not a complicated legal system. What you find is something genuinely beautiful. A gift. Just a gift. God setting aside a day every single week for His people to stop, breathe, rest and simply be with Him. That is it. That is where it started and that is where Jesus brought it back to. Let us walk through the whole story;

God Kept It Really Simple at the Beginning

The Sabbath starts at creation and what strikes you immediately when you read it is how uncomplicated it is. God did not hand down a rulebook. He did not create categories of forbidden activities or set up enforcement mechanisms. He just did three things and described them in a few quiet and beautiful words:

And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. (Genesis 2:2-3 KJV)

He rested. He blessed. He sanctified. That is the entire original institution of the Sabbath right there. A day set apart from ordinary work. A day to stop producing and striving and just dwell in what God had made and who He is. No complicated rules. No exhaustive lists. No anxiety about getting it right. Just stop. Rest. Be with God. That was always the pure heart of it.

And when He formally commanded it at Sinai He did not make it dramatically more complicated. The core remained the same:

Remember the sabbath day to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour and do all thy work but the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God in it thou shalt not do any work thou nor thy son nor thy daughter thy manservant nor thy maidservant nor thy cattle nor thy stranger that is within thy gates. (Exodus 20:8-10 KJV)

Six days you work and get everything done. The seventh day everybody rests. And He means everybody. Your children rest. Your servants rest. Your animals rest. Even the stranger living in your community gets to rest. Nobody is left out of the gift. Nobody is excluded from the blessing. And that is actually really significant when you think about it. On the Sabbath the wealthy landowner rested and so did the person who worked for him. The powerful and the powerless stopped together. It was God's great weekly equalizer reminding everyone that life is not ultimately about what you can produce or accumulate. It is about who He is and what He has done.

What Israel Actually Did on the Sabbath

In the time of Moses keeping the Sabbath was genuinely straightforward. You did not work. You prepared your food the day before so you were not scrambling on the Sabbath itself. God demonstrated this practically when He gave Israel manna in the wilderness and told them to gather double on the sixth day:

And he said unto them this is that which the Lord hath said tomorrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the Lord bake that which ye will bake today and seethe that ye will seethe and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning. (Exodus 16:23 KJV)

Plan ahead. Prepare the day before. So that when the Sabbath arrives it is genuinely free and genuinely restful rather than being another day of scrambling and stress with a religious label on it. That is practical and loving guidance. God was not trying to make things difficult. He was helping people actually experience the gift He was giving them.

You also gathered together with your community for worship and the reading of Scripture. The Sabbath was never meant to be a private isolated experience. It was communal from the very beginning:

Six days shall work be done but the seventh day is a sabbath of solemn rest a holy convocation. (Leviticus 23:3 KJV)

Holy convocation means a sacred gathering. People came together to hear God's word, to worship, to pray, to be reminded of who they were and whose they were. This is exactly what Jesus did week after week throughout His entire earthly life. He went to the synagogue on the Sabbath as His regular personal custom. (Luke 4:16). The Son of God observed the Sabbath the way God always intended it to be observed. That alone should settle a lot of arguments.

What the Pharisees Did to It, they ruined it beyond recognition

Now here is where the story gets genuinely painful to tell. By the time Jesus arrived the beautiful simplicity of God's Sabbath gift had been almost completely buried under an extraordinary mountain of human rules that religious leaders had constructed around it over centuries. And the really heartbreaking part is that their original intention was actually good. They wanted to protect the Sabbath from being carelessly violated so they built what they called a fence around the law. Extra extra rules to make sure nobody even came close to breaking the actual commandment.

But the fence became the prison. And eventually people forgot there was a gift inside.

By the time of Jesus, the rabbis had identified 39 major categories of work forbidden on the Sabbath and then subdivided those categories into hundreds of specific rules and applications, madness. Here is just a small taste of what ordinary Jewish families had to navigate every single week just to get through the Sabbath without accidentally sinning.

You could not carry an object from a private space to a public space. But what counted as carrying? Lawyers seriously debated whether a person wearing dentures was carrying them. Whether a tailor who walked outside with a needle stuck in his clothing had violated the Sabbath. Whether the way you balanced a load on your head was different from the way you carried it on your shoulder.

You could not write two letters of the alphabet. But what if you wrote them in sand and the wind blew them away? What if you wrote them in juice that dried invisible? What if you only intended to write one letter but accidentally wrote two?

You could not tie a knot. But which kind of knot? A sailor's knot was forbidden but a woman tying her hair covering was acceptable. A knot you could undo with one hand was fine but a permanent knot was not.

You could not extinguish a flame. You could not kindle one either. In many communities today people will not touch a light switch on the Sabbath because completing an electrical circuit is considered by some rabbis to constitute kindling fire.

And if you wanted to walk anywhere on the Sabbath you were limited to approximately two thirds of a mile called a Sabbath day's journey. But clever legal minds devised a system by which you could technically extend your permitted travel distance by establishing a symbolic dwelling place at the two thirds mile point before the Sabbath began. Religion had become an elaborate legal game.

This is the world Jesus walked into every single Sabbath. And this is exactly what He walked straight into the middle of and began to systematically dismantle. Not because the Sabbath was wrong. But because what had been done to it was breaking God's heart.

What Jesus Did and Why It Mattered So Much

Jesus healed people on the Sabbath. Not once or twice but repeatedly, deliberately and publicly. He healed a man with a withered hand right in the synagogue with the Pharisees watching and waiting to accuse Him. (Matthew 12:10-13). He healed a woman who had been bent double and unable to straighten herself for eighteen years on the Sabbath. (Luke 13:10-16). He healed a man who had been sick for thirty eight years on the Sabbath. (John 5:1-9). He healed a man who had been born blind on the Sabbath. (John 9:1-14).

None of these were accidents. Every single one was deliberate. Every one produced a confrontation. And every confrontation gave Jesus the opportunity to teach what the Sabbath was always meant to be from the very beginning.

When He healed the bent woman and the religious ruler of the synagogue stood up indignant and told the crowd they should come to be healed on the other six days and not the Sabbath Jesus looked at him and said something that honestly still makes you wince when you read it:

Thou hypocrite doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall and lead him away to watering? And ought not this woman being a daughter of Abraham whom Satan hath bound lo these eighteen years be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day? (Luke 13:15-16 KJV)

Think about the power of that. You will untie your animal and give it water on the Sabbath without a second thought. You would never in a million years leave a suffering animal thirsty and bound because of a religious rule. But you will stand here and begrudge mercy and healing to a human being, a daughter of Abraham, who has been bent and bound and suffering for eighteen years? Jesus was not arguing against the Sabbath. He was arguing passionately for what the Sabbath was always supposed to be. A day of liberation, rest and mercy not a day of religious performance and legal anxiety.

And then when the Pharisees attacked His disciples for plucking grain as they walked through fields on the Sabbath He made the most important statement about the Sabbath in the entire New Testament. Simple. Clear. Final:

The sabbath was made for man and not man for the sabbath. Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.(Mark 2:27-28 KJV)

The Sabbath was made for man. Just sit with those words for a moment. The Sabbath exists to serve you not to burden you. It was given as God's gift for your benefit, your rest, your joy and your relationship with Him. You were not created to serve the Sabbath as a religious obligation. The Sabbath was created to serve you as a weekly gift of grace. And its Lord is Jesus who made it, who owns it and who knows better than anyone what it was always meant to be.

So What Does It Actually Look Like to Keep the Sabbath the Way God Intended?

When you put it all together, everything God originally said, everything the Law described, everything the prophets envisioned and everything Jesus restored, what emerges is genuinely simple and genuinely beautiful. Here is what it actually looks like in plain human terms.

You stop working. From sunset on Friday to sunset on Saturday you genuinely and completely stop doing the ordinary work of making a living. You do not check work messages. You do not run your business. You do not do the daily labor that fills the other six days. You trust God enough to stop for one full day and in that stopping you are declaring something profound. You are saying my life does not depend on what I can produce. It depends on God. That is an act of faith every bit as real as prayer or worship.

You prepare the day before. God showed Israel this with the manna. Get things ready on Friday so that Saturday is genuinely free and restful rather than just another busy day with a religious label stuck on it. Cook ahead. Plan ahead. Protect the day from the ordinary demands that will fill it if you let them.

You gather together with other believers. The Sabbath was always communal. Come together to worship, to read Scripture, to pray, to encourage each other. The writer of Hebrews connected this gathering directly with the approaching return of Christ:

Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together as the manner of some is but exhorting one another and so much the more as ye see the day approaching. (Hebrews 10:25 KJV)

So much the more as we see the day approaching. We are in that season right now. The gathering together matters more than ever.

You do acts of mercy freely and without hesitation. Jesus settled this permanently. Helping the suffering, caring for the sick, feeding the hungry, these do not violate the Sabbath. They express its deepest and most beautiful meaning. The Sabbath is not a day to look away from human need. It is a day when love has the time and space to operate without the pressure of ordinary life crowding it out.

You rest with your family. The Mosaic command included everyone. Your children rest. Your animals rest. The pressure of the week lifts. People sit together, eat together, talk together without the constant demand of productivity pressing on everything. That kind of unhurried family time is increasingly rare in the modern world and God built it into every single week from the foundation of creation.

You call it a delight. This is the correction Jesus most needed to make to what the Pharisees had created. Isaiah described it perfectly centuries before Jesus ever walked the earth:

If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath from doing thy pleasure on my holy day and call the sabbath a delight the holy of the Lord honourable and shalt honour him not doing thine own ways nor finding thine own pleasure nor speaking thine own words. Call it a delight. Not a duty. Not a burden. Not an anxious exercise in rule keeping. A delight. The one day in seven when everything ordinary stops and God gets your full undivided unhurried attention. And the promise attached to that is extraordinary. You will delight yourself in the Lord. The Sabbath becomes the weekly experience of the deepest and most satisfying joy that exists. Not because of the rules you kept but because of the relationship you entered into on that day.

The Simple Bottom Line

No 39 categories of forbidden work. No debates about electrical circuits or eruv strings or how you balance a load. No anxiety about accidentally violating rule number 247 in a religious handbook. Just the simple and breathtaking gift that God gave to all of humanity at the very dawn of creation.

Stop. Rest. Worship. Gather. Show mercy. Enjoy your family. Open your Bible. Pray. Sit quietly in the presence of the God who made you and loves you. And call it what He always intended it to be.

Then that certainly includes me, if someone is commanding Sabbath keeping for the body of Christ.

The common thing of all exclusive, cultish churches, is one really special rule particular to themselves, that they command all Christians must do, in order to be justified with God. None of their special rules are written by any apostle of Christ to obey.

To name a few, Sabbath commanders, water baptism 'in Jesus name' only, holiness Pentecostalism (bunch of rules)...

It's not hard to spot them, because they always come back to their special little rule, whenever talking with 'other' Christians.

They always begin with the importance of keeping God's commandants, which is true, but the most holy eternal never-changing must-keep commandment of all time, is of course #4 in Moses law: The Sabbath. Do any Sabbath-keepers work in any gvt position, that requires working on their Sabbath day? Such as elected rulers, police, emergency responders, military, etc...?

Or, are all Sabbath-keepers forbidden to have any such career, including with any company/corporation that requires the same?

If so, then being Sabbath defilers, do the Sabbath commanders give special 'exemption' to transgress their Sabbath freely?

Do they donate the Sabbath day pay for ministry/charity, like some Corban? So long as they give their Sabbath day pay to the priests, then they are freed from honoring the Sabbath day? Or, do they honor the Sabbath in spirit and words, since not in deed and in truth...

Before that, other than at the creation of the world, there is no mention in Scripture of any special 7th day, much less any man keeping a Sabbath day. Not Adam in the garden, not righteous Abel, nor Noah, Job, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, nor Moses, until commanded to do so from the mount.

The Sabbath, the 4th commandment part of the Covenant— How It Was Always Meant To Be Kept​

What Jesus Did and Why It Mattered So Much

Jesus healed people on the Sabbath. Not once or twice but repeatedly, deliberately and publicly. He healed a man with a withered hand right in the synagogue with the Pharisees watching and waiting to accuse Him. (Matthew 12:10-13). He healed a woman who had been bent double and unable to straighten herself for eighteen years on the Sabbath. (Luke 13:10-16). He healed a man who had been sick for thirty eight years on the Sabbath. (John 5:1-9). He healed a man who had been born blind on the Sabbath. (John 9:1-14).

None of these were accidents. Every single one was deliberate. Every one produced a confrontation. And every confrontation gave Jesus the opportunity to teach what the Sabbath was always meant to be from the very beginning.

When He healed the bent woman and the religious ruler of the synagogue stood up indignant and told the crowd they should come to be healed on the other six days and not the Sabbath Jesus looked at him and said something that honestly still makes you wince when you read it:

Thou hypocrite doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall and lead him away to watering? And ought not this woman being a daughter of Abraham whom Satan hath bound lo these eighteen years be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day? (Luke 13:15-16 KJV)

Think about the power of that. You will untie your animal and give it water on the Sabbath without a second thought. You would never in a million years leave a suffering animal thirsty and bound because of a religious rule. But you will stand here and begrudge mercy and healing to a human being, a daughter of Abraham, who has been bent and bound and suffering for eighteen years? Jesus was not arguing against the Sabbath. He was arguing passionately for what the Sabbath was always supposed to be. A day of liberation, rest and mercy not a day of religious performance and legal anxiety.

And then when the Pharisees attacked His disciples for plucking grain as they walked through fields on the Sabbath He made the most important statement about the Sabbath in the entire New Testament. Simple. Clear. Final:

The sabbath was made for man and not man for the sabbath. Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.(Mark 2:27-28 KJV)

The Sabbath was made for man. Just sit with those words for a moment. The Sabbath exists to serve you not to burden you. It was given as God's gift for your benefit, your rest, your joy and your relationship with Him. You were not created to serve the Sabbath as a religious obligation. The Sabbath was created to serve you as a weekly gift of grace. And its Lord is Jesus who made it, who owns it and who knows better than anyone what it was always meant to be.

So What Does It Actually Look Like to Keep the Sabbath the Way God Intended?

When you put it all together, everything God originally said, everything the Law described, everything the prophets envisioned and everything Jesus restored, what emerges is genuinely simple and genuinely beautiful. Here is what it actually looks like in plain human terms.

You stop working. From sunset on Friday to sunset on Saturday you genuinely and completely stop doing the ordinary work of making a living. You do not check work messages. You do not run your business. You do not do the daily labor that fills the other six days. You trust God enough to stop for one full day and in that stopping you are declaring something profound. You are saying my life does not depend on what I can produce. It depends on God. That is an act of faith every bit as real as prayer or worship.

You prepare the day before. God showed Israel this with the manna. Get things ready on Friday so that Saturday is genuinely free and restful rather than just another busy day with a religious label stuck on it. Cook ahead. Plan ahead. Protect the day from the ordinary demands that will fill it if you let them.

You gather together with other believers. The Sabbath was always communal. Come together to worship, to read Scripture, to pray, to encourage each other. The writer of Hebrews connected this gathering directly with the approaching return of Christ:

Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together as the manner of some is but exhorting one another and so much the more as ye see the day approaching. (Hebrews 10:25 KJV)

So much the more as we see the day approaching. We are in that season right now. The gathering together matters more than ever.

You do acts of mercy freely and without hesitation. Jesus settled this permanently. Helping the suffering, caring for the sick, feeding the hungry, these do not violate the Sabbath. They express its deepest and most beautiful meaning. The Sabbath is not a day to look away from human need. It is a day when love has the time and space to operate without the pressure of ordinary life crowding it out.

You rest with your family. The Mosaic command included everyone. Your children rest. Your animals rest. The pressure of the week lifts. People sit together, eat together, talk together without the constant demand of productivity pressing on everything. That kind of unhurried family time is increasingly rare in the modern world and God built it into every single week from the foundation of creation.

You call it a delight. This is the correction Jesus most needed to make to what the Pharisees had created. Isaiah described it perfectly centuries before Jesus ever walked the earth:

If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath from doing thy pleasure on my holy day and call the sabbath a delight the holy of the Lord honourable and shalt honour him not doing thine own ways nor finding thine own pleasure nor speaking thine own words. Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it. (Isaiah 58:13-14 KJV)

Call it a delight. Not a duty. Not a burden. Not an anxious exercise in rule keeping. A delight. The one day in seven when everything ordinary stops and God gets your full undivided unhurried attention. And the promise attached to that is extraordinary. You will delight yourself in the Lord. The Sabbath becomes the weekly experience of the deepest and most satisfying joy that exists. Not because of the rules you kept but because of the relationship you entered into on that day.

The Simple Bottom Line

Just the simple and breathtaking gift that God gave to all of humanity at the very dawn of creation.

One way of defiling the commandments of God, is by adding to it man's own tradition. With the Sabbath, that includes immortalizing and idolizing it before it was ever a commandment. Such as breathtakingly from the very dawn of creation...And therefore keeping it immortally idolized beyond God's use of such a designated day.

We know it's an idol today to them that religiously keep it (Unless for gvt/corporate demands?):
1. It's commanded as by law today, where no such law is commanded by the risen LORD God Jesus Christ.
2. It's commanded by man's law to be justified with man, not with God.
3. It's kept by man's law in order to separate themselves from other men, not from sin and trespass.

With Abel in particular, he was a keeper of the sheep, not a keeper of the Sabbath. He offered sacrifice unto the Lord in the process of time, and not on any particular day.

Also, with all the faithful Hebrews in Egypt, none of them would have ever lived beyond any Sabbath day, by execution of the Egyptians. And so, the only surviving Hebrews would have been practiced Sabbath-breakers by fear of man. By such fear without any faith toward the God Israel, none would have defied Pharaoh at the word of faith by Moses.

Stop. Rest. Worship. Gather. Show mercy. Enjoy your family. Open your Bible. Pray. Sit quietly in the presence of the God who made you and loves you.

The commandments of God is God's works, keeping them is trusting in His saving works Exo32:16 doing something else is trusting in our own works. What He does is forever Ecc3:14 we can't add or subtract from them because we are not God.

Yet God said the very opposite, profaning God's Sabbath He related to idol worship. She fiercely believed that salvation is a free gift of grace (Justification), but she also taught that true faith will naturally result in a changed life and a desire to obey God (Sanctification).
She did not teach that obedience is the root of our salvation; she taught that it is the fruit of it. Compilations like this isolate her quotes about the "fruit" (how a saved person lives) to make it look like she denied the "root" (how a person is saved).

3. Historical Context: The 1888 Minneapolis Conference

You cannot define a person's entire belief system by isolating their harshest statements while ignoring their life's primary work. If you look at the history of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, there was a massive turning point regarding this exact debate over law versus grace.

Isa 56:1 Thus says the LORD:

“Keep justice, and do righteousness,
For My salvation is about to come,

The issue is not that God was not clear on this matter, the issue is our unbelief in what He says. The Sabbath is about LOVE to our LORD and Creator- worshipping Him Rev14:7 why do we need a commandment to love and serve Him and join ourselves to Him and be one of His people if His law is written in our heart. Show me where Gentiles can practice unrighteousness and be saved? Where they can do what is evil in the sight of the LORD. Why do you insist man doesn't mean you, we can't take away God's blessing we can only forfeit our own.



Pray tell where Gentiles do not have to be a servant of the LORD to love or join themselves to Him? Why do you think our LORD and Savior who invited everyone doesn't mean you?

If we are not serving the LORD who are we serving? God tells us how to serve Him, do we really know better than He, our Creator?

Where did Jesus say that the 4th commandment that He wrote and spoke is no longer one of His commandments.

The issue is not that God was not clear on this matter, the issue is our unbelief in what He says. The Sabbath is about LOVE to our LORD and Creator- worshipping Him Rev14:7 why do we need a commandment to love and serve Him and join ourselves to Him and be one of His people if His law is written in our heart. The apostles never made this mistake- they kept every Sabbath Acts 15:21 , the Gentiles in the Bible never made this mistake they kept every Sabbath. Acts 13:42 Acts 13:44 Acts18:4 The issue is not that our LORD and Savior was not clear these are direct quotes from the LORD the issue is faith,

If we are not serving our LORD whose voice are we obeying instead Rom6:16KJV. God said Remember- what voice is saying to do the exact opposite as God? Its not God.

Nice legal bridge you built there. You had to use a lot of verses to try to create an answer. But on your way from the OT to Revelation, you seemed to have built the bridge right over the top of Acts 15:28-29. The way I see it is you’re either saying the Holy Spirit and the apostles were wrong or that they lied to the gentiles. So which is it?
