Jesus also said "I am the bread"..... do you think that he physically became a loaf of bread?
He's bread, veal, a light,a rock. He is the original shape-shifter.
Actually he said, "I am living bread ( a loaf of bread is not alive) that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world." See the change? He refers to himself as living bread, not a loaf of bread then says the bread is my flesh.
That's right he is the bread and his bread is his flesh just like he said. You aren't mocking me friend.
So you are saying the living bread is not REAL bread, but some how different..... figurative bread.
Therefore, what makes up the bread, which Jesus said was his flesh was also figurative.
AGAIN what I said was, Jesus said he is the living bread come down from heaven. I made no statement about it being real but Jesus is clear, this bread I will give is my flesh.... The very next line the jews ask how can this man give us his flesh to eat? How does Jesus reply?
The difference is Jesus never said the rock, living or otherwise, is my flesh.
But Jesus did say the bread he will give is his flesh.... He never says the rock is his flesh. He never says the vine is his flesh, etc etc etc
1 Corinthians 11:25 Jesus said...this cup is the new covenant in my blood...whenever you drink it...
The antecedent of it is cup. If we are being literal, wouldn't one have to drink a literal cup? This, of course, is silly.

It's not a metaphor as they actually did drink from the cup. Paul is referencing the last supper. You're confused by the absence of the word "from" huh?
A few verses later Paul says, "For a person who eats and drinks without discerning the body of the Lord is eating and drinking judgment in himself."
And he was speaking figuratively.... your RC training will not let you see otherwise. If not, if it actually becomes flesh and blood, then he is violating Levitical law that forbade drinking blood, and I assume, eating flesh.... cannibalism.
It HAS to be figurative.
It doesn't say drink from the cup. It says drink the cup. You are the literalist; not me. Try to stay consistent.
The fact is: Jesus was never a physical rock, or lamb, or anything else. All these things are metaphors or all are literally true for one to be consistent.
You people work on assumptions. The problem with assumptions is they don't have to be true.
It has to be what Jesus says not what you say. When the Jews ask, "how can this man give us his flesh to eat?", what does Jesus say?
I'm not a literalists as I know when jesus is speaking metaphorically or literally. So does Jesus speaks only in metaphors?
Lets try an experiment, lets say you've been talking to a group of people for an hour about not robbing banks and then people in the group say, why is this guy telling us to rob banks? What would you say?
I would say they weren't paying attention.
When Jesus says that He is the bread of life, is He speaking metaphorically?
Ok then so let's say the Jews weren't paying attention to Jesus when he was speaking so they asked, "how can this man give us his flesh to eat?" He answers them, "Amen and I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the son of man and and drink his blood you have no life in you". That sounds to.me like they understood Jesus very well and he confirmed their understanding. And later on after repeating that two more timesm and calling his flesh real food and his blood real drink he asks, Does this shock you? Why would anyone be shocked if he was speaking metaphorically?
He did speak metaphorically at one point but since he didn't speak in just metaphors, he ceased speaking metaphorically in verse 51
