It would be very interesting if a movie about church was based on Mean Girls cliques etc.
Like the new convert would come to church, and have no idea where to sit, and the married couples area are like 'You can't sit with us'!
Unlike Cady who goes and sits in the toilet eating her lunch (ew!) the new convert just sits at the back ...

I'm now interested in the Mean Girls movie. I'll catch it next time Paramount+ subscription goes on sale!

Oh what's whis name..he was in SNL with Tina Fey, so was Amy Poehler who played the 'cool mom'.And Cady's mom was Ana G. Like all the cast of SNL were in it. I'd never seen SNL because it didn't show in my country but now I know what it is...I saw clips on it from Youtube and it's hilarious. All the famous actors/perfomers are on it.

Principal Duvall - Tim Meadows.

Favourite Lines - I did not leave the South Side - for this!
Or...
I will keep you in all night if I have to!
We can't keep them past four
I will keep you here until four!

You don't have to make a speech you know...

Love that he had Carpal tunnel syndrome hahaa..in the musical version he and teacher Mrs Norbury (Tina Fey) were together, but I kind of like the original where they weren't and just flirting.

And the high school was called North Shore ...we have a North Shore in Auckland but it's a whole suburb/entire city in itself. Very wealthy area. You wouldn't have mansions like Regina's though, that is off the scale wealthy...
We cater a small dinner party for Evan Baxter, of Evan Almighty. He was also of the SNL crowd, Steve Carell (he was buying the golf course nearby and I think the gathering had something to do with that).

While he was there, everyone was crowding into the carriage house, and so I slipped out from the kitchen through door in front of the carriage house to try and get a peek but didn't even try to see if I could spot him within the small throng of mingling guests. I went the other way into the hall leading to the rest of the otherwise quiet and seemingly abandoned inn to go to the bathroom and passed a lone lady coming down the hall going toward the carriage house. I smile and nod a greeting at her and restrain myself from asking her if she is his wife, Nancy, who was expected to meet him at the dinner because he checked in ahead of her. I gathered her to be a nice person just by the silent nod, even without speaking to her.

I watched "Almost Famous" because a friend said I reminded her of it but, after watching it, I wondered other than maybe a tendency to remain unimpressed by fame. I mean, I think we're all a star of one degree or another. But of course, I was interested in the impression I, myself, might've projected onto my friend, so I watched it. So, if you tell me which Mean Girls character might be reflective of my character, I might be more inclined to sit through it just to 'see what you think of me' (even if you think I'm the 'meanest' girl, I regard the opinion you might have gathered for yourself as your right as a person. I mean it is inherent in being a person, made in the image of God, to judge things as they see them).

Saw a movie that had Steve Carell in it called Hope Springs. Also with Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones.

Maybe I will talk about it in another thread.

It is not about the actors, it's about the characters they are playing. I didn't watch Mean Girls to see particular movie stars. I watched it because it has a good story.

Maybe there is a Regina George in your life. Maybe you've been bullied and still bear the scars. Or maybe without realising it, you are the bully. I find it interesting, in a high school setting, but it can happen anywhere. I saw it everyday in primary school. Girls do this to each other. Unlike boys, the in-fighting is sneaky, and can be devastating.

It's a good movie, entertaining, but also quite serious.
Granted a lot of teen movies have similar themes, where the snobby Queen Bee gets her comeuppance, but in the end things come out all right and lessons are learned.

Let's talk about Janis, and what Regina does to ruin her life.
So Regina implies or thinks Janis is a lesbian. Back in the early 2000s or before, there was this stigma, and a lot of people were in the closet. They did not want to come out, serious consequences if they did. They would be ostracised socially, it would ruin their prospects, they would be pariahs.
Why does Regina think Janis is a lesbian? They were best friends before, but Regina notices Janis is clingy and doesn't like it when Regina starts having boyfriends so has no time for her. This seems normal human behaviour, but Janis becomes jealous and that jealousy gets twisted into lesbianism.

I honestly don't know too much about this, but best friends CAN be closer than what is deemed 'normal' and sexual orientation is a tricky subject. Anyway the rumour goes around that Janis is a lesbian and so she doesn't get invited to parties anymore and falls out with Regina. It might be that Janis was not comfortable being 'outed' before she was ready, or was actually NOT a lesbian at all, the thing was Regina said something false about Janis, or speculating - she wasn't just teasing. Also she did it behind Janis back. And they were best friends before! Even if Janis was a lesbian, a best friend would keep that a secret if the other wanted it to, as it would be nobody elses business.

So that is why Janis takes revenge and uses Cady to carry it out.

In the updated musical version they made it that Janis actually IS a lesbian, and that kind of changes the whole dynamic of the story. The writers also made Janis the central character, rather than Cady narrating in the OG.

So in OG Janis changes her look to goth girl, and becomes friends with Damien, who she deems 'too gay to function'.

In some ways it might have been better that someone 'comes out' rather than have to pretend and live a double life...certainly this is a serious topic in church circles, enough to split them, and when forced conversion was a thing. It has now become outlawed to do this. (watch 'Pray the gay away' on Netflix) christians uncertain about their orientation and didn't want to be gay would go to these bootcamp things to learn how to be straight. For real. And they would get married, to appear straight...and then, many would give in to their desires and be gay anyway. It didn't work. Or it worked for a time, but eventually it didn't. And it would devastate marriages, imagine marrying someone, even having children and all the while they would be having an affair with their same-sex 'friend'. It would be betrayal of the worst kind.

I think it works both ways and this kind of thing happens in to straight couples too, but the infidelity is straight, so somehow thats more forgiveable. Yea make it make sense. But its true, people lie all the time. They aren't honest about their feelings. They'll pretend they are faithful when they aren't so as not to hurt the spouse and then they find out in the worst way. Why can't couples just say, I find myself fancying or being attracted to so and so. or they are coming on to me....but help me stay faithful to you!

Direct confrontation can be better than talking about someone behind someones back, which seems to be common on this forum unfortunately. I have had people here refer to me as a troll. And I can read that.

They don't ask me, Lanolin are you trolling? They just call me a troll. I'm like, if I'm a troll, what purpose would I be be serving? Am I pretending to be a christian all the while not being one? Am I trying to recruit people into my cult, or luring away others to another forum, or soliciting for donations?

Why would they say that? Just because I post a lot of what I think? And respond to forum posts? Thats just what I do!

It works the exact same way as when you say things about other people on the forum -- they're able to read it just as well.

I did directly confront you in that thread -- and you totally sidestepped my posts.

When someone keeps talking about my personal life on the forum, my answers to them will be directly on the forum.

I don't bother with PM's when someone tries to throw things out about my life they know nothing about -- especially when I have repeatedly corrected them in public.

You actually put your personal life on the forum for everyone to read.

Please don't be a hypocrite Seoul. It's not Christian.

Also, I did not say you and Lynx are dating. I just questioned if you ever did. Of course you said you weren't. But you also said you met up with Lynx in person, so, I was speculating. It's not a slur on you. It's just I now don't really know if you are telling the truth anymore.
Also Lynx post's don't help because you and Lynx are very close or seem very close friends. Plus, it would be kind of cool if you did date Lynx, because he says he hasn't dated before, and he is curious about it as numerous posts HE has made attests. I don't quite know if he is just joking - he has a very dry sense of humour...

But you totally flew off the handle at me. And that has made ME upset that you believe I had hurt you, because that was never my intention.
And many many many of your posts are about dating. I don't think a week goes by where you don't mention how unhappy you are with being single and want to meet the love of your life, and possibly be married again.

Back to topic Mean Girls..
Has anyone else seen the movie.
Maybe I should read the book lol
Queen Bees and Wannabes. Apparently the author was kind of pissed she did not get any royalties from the movie.
One of the scenarios she outlined that was in the movie, about the Plastics, was the rules the girls had. This was based on an actual clique and the girl that was the originator of the clique, and made the rules, recognised herself in the book.

And she was, not humiliated, but mortified.
Some girls think it's just a bit of fun. The rules are not real, says Regina who is wearing sweatpants the day she's not supposed to wear sweatpants (Monday). But Karen says 'they were real the day I wore a vest!'

The rules are if I recall
You can't wear the same tank top two days in a row.
You can only have your hair in ponytail once a week
On Wednesdays we wear pink
You can only wear jeans or sweatpants on Fridays

I don't think a week goes by where you don't mention how unhappy you are with being single and want to meet the love of your life, and possibly be married again.

If this is what you get from my posts, then you don't know or understand me at all.

You still have no clue as to why I'm even upset, even though I've spelled it out many times over the years. This is why it upsets me. No, I didn't suddenly fly off the handle -- what bothers me is that I have been trying to tell you the same thing for YEARS. It's just that this time, I did so a little bit more emphatically.

It's interesting though, as I had a run-in with someone in live chat who has long made it known that they dislike my threads and think I'm incapable of talking about anything but dating.

And that's perfectly fine. No one is everyone's cup of tea, and when people don't like me or what I write, I encourage them to put me on Ignore.

The funny thing is, I have literally written, I'm sure, at least a thousand threads on this forum (a mod once said I was up to 400, and that was years ago,) and if you look at the Family Forum, it's quite obvious that I make quite a number of threads about other topics than dating.

In the Singles Forum, of course I'm going to talk about dating, as most singles are interested in dating.

And if I come across as so completely miserable all the time, why bother reading my posts?

I don't think you understand the points of a lot of what I post, but that's ok. I understand as what we communicate is always open to interpretation.

As for your accusation that I'm a hypocrite, well, you're entitled to your own opinion.

Of course I don't know you. I've never met you in person. But what you have said and are now saying about me is baseless.

?? Give it a rest Seoul. I am not responding to any more of your threads if that's how you feel about me. Nice to know how hated iI am on here. :-(

I am going back to my topic now.

The very reason I've been responding to you is because I've been trying to talk these things out with you, and over a very long period of time -- not just in your time back on the forum.

And I can say that it's equally just as pleasant having you call me a hypocrite and make me out to be some unhappy, desperate person.
But I understand.

As you wish.

Fake dating trope? Not in Mean Girls but the other movie in another thread.

I can talk about dating too, but I don't think I do it all the time. Also, if you see in the other movie thread lynx and I were shipped together cos he was the only one that responded. In a typical cryptic Lynx 'let's put down Lanolin cos it's fun and see how she reacts' response.

^^
It used to annoy me, but I got over it.

Also the breaking bad habit thread was ironic because I confessed I had this bad habit, and I was totally pounced on for being honest.
??

I thought the thread was interesting, it doesn't mean I didn't like the poster or the content. Its just well, it's always seems to be brought up, and yes its true Seoul has written over 400 threads and of course I haven't read them all, who can keep up? I can't. And I did try. I don't understand every detail of someone else's life or have the time to do that. There are other people on the forum too. So yea I have no clue about why Seoul is upset, just as Lynx didn't know what he had done when he wrote something about me that implied I was a dog. The analogies!!!!

Actually I am more of a cat.

So maybe I should write a thread about Clueless after all! lol

...Who is Queen Bee of the Singles Forum?
Or CC for that matter?

I don't know. Certainly not me by a long shot. I am just a drone/worker bee. Who is now unemployed (again) but I have plenty of housework and homework to do.

In Mean Girls, I think I would be sitting with the Nerdy Asians perhaps. Not the Asian hotties, I don't wear hoop earrings. Or possibly by myself on the toilet.

Which I actually did in high school. It was a very bad time for me.

For anyone wondering, everything being talked about is all in the public forum, but it spans across tons of threads and many years. Nothing being said is anything secret that's somehow being spilled.

It would take forever to explain.

All I can say at this point is,

Best wishes, Lanolin, and I hope you find comfort in your time here.

You BOTH write A LOT. But i like reading them because they're all interesting and not boring.

I hope you two never stop writing and expressing what is on your hearts and minds!

As far as sheer volume of posts, Lanolin is definitely the Queen of the Forum.

I have only 18,690 posts from 2009-2026 (present day, 17 years in May.)

Lanolin has 24,288 posts from December 2018 - 2026. And that's with taking two years off, so 8 years but minus 2, meaning about 6 years.

She definitely has me beat by a long country mile, so kudos to her for that.

And thank you for the kind words all around, @2ndTimeIsTheCharm.
